GENERAL ASBESTOS NOTES APPLICABLE TO SK-1
1. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE ALL ASBESTOS REMOVAL WORK WITH OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE AND OTHER CONTRACTORS.
2. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR OBTAINING AN EMERGENCY PROJECT VARIANCE PER 12 NYCRR PART 56-11.2..
3. CEILINGS & CEILING SUPPORTS, ETC. SHALL BE REMOVED UNDER ASBESTOS ABATEMENT CONTRACT WORK WHERE INDICATED.
4. ALL ASBESTOS MATERIALS REMOVED SHALL BE DISPOSED OF AS AN ACM.
5. CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY EXISTING CONDITIONS, DIMENSIONS AND QUANTITIES, BEFORE START OF WORK.
6. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PERFORM ALL CONTRACT WORK IN ACCORDANCE WITH CONTRACT SPECIFICATIONS, 12 NYCRR PART 56, OSHA
1926.1101, NESHAPS 40 CFR PART 61, AHERA 40 CFR PART 763 AND ALL OTHER APPLICABLE CODES.
7. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL MAINTAIN SECURITY IN THE BUILDING AND WORK AREA AT ALL TIMES, FOR THE DURATION OF THE ASBESTOS
REMOVAL PROJECT.
8. IF THE BUILDING ENVELOPE BECOMES EXPOSED AS A RESULT OF THIS WORK, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE TEMPORARY WEATHER
AND SECURITY PROTECTION AND SHALL MAINTAIN UNTIL THE PERMANENT BUILDING ENVELOPE HAS BEEN RESTORED. CONTRACTOR SHALL
BE RESPONSIBLE FOR FULL RESTORATION OF DAMAGED AREAS.
9. ASBESTOS TRANSPORT ROUTE TO BE COORDINATED WITH THE OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE.
10. CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE SHUT DOWN AND LOCK OUT OF ELECTRICAL POWER WITH OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE. ALL TEMPORARY
POWER TO THE WORK AREA SHALL BE BROUGHT IN FROM OUTSIDE THE WORK AREA THROUGH A GROUND-FAULT CIRCUIT INTERRUPTER AT
THE SOURCE OF THE POWER.
11. MOVEABLE OBJECTS SHALL BE REMOVED BY THE ABATEMENT CONTRACTOR AND SHALL BE PRE-CLEANED PER CODE RULE 56 AND SHALL BE
DISPOSED OF AS A NON-CONTAMINATED WASTE.
12. VARIATIONS (+/- 10%) IN QUANTITIES AND LOCATIONS OF ACM SHALL BE CONSIDERED AS HAVING NO IMPACT ON CONTRACT PRICE AND/OR
SCHEDULE OF THIS CONTRACT.
13. THE OWNER IS RESPONSIBLE TO CONTRACT FOR NYSDOL PROJECT MONITORING / AIR SAMPLING TECHNICIAN SERVICES. OSHA PERSONAL
AIR MONITORING IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR.
14. CONTRACTOR SHALL REQUEST AND RECEIVE PROJECT MONITOR AND OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE APPROVAL BEFORE ASBESTOS REMOVAL
IS UNDERTAKEN.
15. CONTRACTOR TO HEPA VACUUM EXISTING NON-MOVABLE EQUIPMENT PRIOR TO COVERING WITH PROTECTIVE PLASTIC SHEETING.
16. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHALL CONTAMINATED WASTEWATER ENTER THE SANITARY SEWER SYSTEM. ALL WASTE WATER SHALL BE
FILTERED THROUGH A SYSTEM WITH AT LEAST 5.0 MICRON PARTICLE SIZE COLLECTION CAPABILITY. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE
FOR FULL RESTORATION OF DAMAGED AREAS.
17. IF WATER LEAKS THROUGH THE CONTAINMENT AREAS, OR FROM THE DECONTAMINATION AREA, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE
FOR ALL WATER DAMAGE. CONTRACTOR SHALL DOCUMENT ALL PRE-EXISTING WATER DAMAGE PRIOR TO ESTABLISHING CONTAINMENT
AREAS.
18. IF SUSPECT OR ASBESTOS MATERIAL IS DISCOVERED, NOT PREVIOUSLY IDENTIFIED, CEASE OPERATIONS AND NOTIFY THE OWNER AND/OR
OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE IMMEDIATELY.
19. CONTRACTOR SHALL IDENTIFY AND INCLUDE IN THEIR BID ALL DEMOLITION REMOVALS SHOWN ON THE ARCHITECTURAL, PLUMBING,
ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL DEMOLITION PLANS.
20. REFER TO ARCHITECTURAL DRAWING FOR GENERAL DEMOLITION NOTES.
21. APPROVAL OF THE QUANTITY AND EXTENT OF THIS WORK MUST BE APPROVED BY CONSULTANT AND OWNER PRIOR TO THE START OF
WORK.
LEAD PAINT NOTE APPLICABLE TO SK-1
SURFACES CONTAINING LEAD PAINT ARE PRESENT IN THE RENOVATION AREA. ALTERATIONS TO PAINTED SURFACES CONTAINING
LEAD SHALL BE PERFORMED BY THE GENERAL CONTRACTOR IN ACCORDANCE WITH 40 CFR PART 735 AND 29 CFR 1926.62.

DEB1 CORRIDOR REMOVALS. OTHERS TO REMOVE NON-AC ACOUSTICAL CEILING TILE INCLUDING LIGHT FIXTURES, LOUVERS, CEILING
SUPPORT SYSTEM AND ANY OTHER APPURTENANCES ATTACHED TO THE CEILING IN ENTIRETY WITHIN CORRIDOR AND DISPOSE
OF AS CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS. OTHERS TO REMOVE NON-AC PLASTER AND LATHE CEILING, WOOD CEILING JOISTS, LOWER
PLENUM IN ENTIRETY, AND DISPOSE OF AS CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS. CONTRACTOR TO PLASTICIZE FLOORS AND WALLS UP TO
UPPER PLENUM. CONTRACTOR TO REMOVE PERIMETER NON-AC PLASTER AND LATHE CEILINGS, UPPER PLENUM, CONTAMINATED
WITH AC ROOFING DEBRIS AND DISPOSE OF AS AN ACM. CONTRACTOR TO INSTALL CRITICAL BARRIERS IN UPPER PLENUM.
CONTRACTOR TO REMOVE REMAINING ASBESTOS CONTAMINATED PLASTER AND LATHE CEILING AND DISPOSE OF AS AN ACM. (1)
LAYER OF WOOD RAFTERS AND (1) LAYER OF WOOD FRAMED OVERBUILD, AND TONGUE/GROOVE ROOF SHEATHING IN SECOND
PLENUM CORRIDORS SHALL REMAIN UNDAMAGED AND BE DECONTAMINATED USING HEPA-VACUUMS AND WET CLEANING
METHODS. ANY REMAINING FRAMING OR EDGING IN THE CEILING PLENUM SHALL BE DECONTAMINATED USING HEPA-VACUUMS
AND WET CLEANING METHODS.
DEB2 CLASSROOM REMOVALS. OTHERS TO REMOVE NON-AC ACOUSTICAL CEILING TILE INCLUDING LIGHT FIXTURES, LOUVERS, CEILING
SUPPORT SYSTEM AND ANY OTHER APPURTENANCES ATTACHED TO THE CEILING IN ENTIRETY WITHIN CLASSROOMS AND DISPOSE
OF AS CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS. CONTRACTOR TO PLASTICIZE FLOORS AND WALLS UP TO THE METAL CEILING. REMOVE
PERIMETER CEILINGS AND ASSOCIATED NON-AC TAR PAPER CONTAMINATED WITH AC ROOFING DEBRIS AND DISPOSE OF AS AN
ACM. PLASTICIZE WALLS TO ROOF DECK. CONTRACTOR TO REMOVE REMAINING ASBESTOS CONTAMINATED METAL CEILING.
METAL CEILINGS SHALL BE SALVAGED AND TURNED OVER TO OWNER AS REQUIRED TO PROVIDE FOR REUSE. CONTRACTOR SHALL
CAREFULLY SALVAGE WHOLE METAL PANELS PROVIDING MINIMAL TO NO DAMAGE IN THE AMOUNT OF 1,000 SF. THE REMAINING
CEILINGS SHALL BE DECONTAMINATED AND DISPOSED OF AS CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS. (1) LAYER OF WOOD RAFTERS AND (1)
LAYER OF WOOD FRAMED OVERBUILD, AND TONGUE/GROOVE ROOF SHEATHING SHALL REMAIN UNDAMAGED AND BE
DECONTAMINATED USING HEPA-VACUUMS AND WET CLEANING METHODS. ANY REMAINING FRAMING OR EDGING IN THE CEILING
PLENUM SHALL BE DECONTAMINATED USING HEPA-VACUUMS AND WET CLEANING METHODS.

AUDITORIUM/GYMNASIUM/STAGE AND DISPOSE OF AS CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS. CONTRACTOR TO PLASTICIZE WORKING
SURFACES AND WALLS UP TO NON-AC PLASTER CEILING. CONTRACTOR TO REMOVE PERIMETER NON-AC PLASTER AND LATHE

ACOUSTICAL CEILING TILES AND DISPOSE OF AS AN ACM. CONTRACTOR TO INSTALL CRITICAL BARRIERS IN PLENUM.
CONTRACTOR TO REMOVE REMAINING ACOUSTICAL CEILING TILES CONTAMINATED WITH AC ROOFING DEBRIS INCLUDING LIGHT
