Océ Imaging Supplies and Canon Inc. recently have joined forces and created media types for 12 Océ media qualities on the Canon iPF9000S/iPF9100 printer. These tailor-made Océ media types contain all relevant and media specific color information and printer settings in order to obtain the best media performance and print quality on the iPF9000S/iPF9100 printers. Instead of choosing equivalent Canon media types when printing on Océ media and not having the Océ media types available on the printer panel/driver, customers now can choose the Océ media types and make use of the Océ specific profiles. Optimized color tables and printer parameters are applied when choosing the Océ media types. If printing on Océ media for which no Océ media types are available, equivalent Canon media types on the printer panel and printer driver should be chosen. Refer to the attachment 1) for the recommended Canon-Océ media type reference list. For the time being Canon Inc. has decided not to include the Océ media types in the standard driver for the Canon iPF9000S/iPF9100 printers. Instead of, you have to upload the Océ media

types to the printer and printer driver using the Océ-fied Canon MCT (Media Configuration Tool). This Océ-fied MCT has, besides the standard Canon media types, also the Océ media types included. The Océ-fied Media Configuration Tool can be downloaded from www.oce.com . It will not be distributed via www.canon.com This bulletin describes: 1. Océ media qualities for which iPF9000S and iPF9100 media types have been created are: Precautions: The screenshots used in this Information Bulletin are derived from an Océ media type

installation on the iPF9100. Installing media on the iPF9000S is similar and the same steps have to be followed. Screenshots may differ slightly depending on the operating system.

You must log into Windows as an Administrator before the installation. The corresponding Canon iPF9X00 Windows Printer Driver and the ImagePROGRAF

Status Monitor have to be installed before installing and running the Media Configuration Tool.

In a network environment the MCT has to be installed on the printserver where the Canon iPF9000S/iPF9100 driver is installed. Canon iPF9000S/iPF9100 printer drivers installed on other client- or workstations in the network will not be updated.

It is strongly advised NOT to install and run MCT on any other client-workstation in the network.

Printing on a client-workstation pc in the network AND having the Océ media types available is only possible if the Canon iPF9000S/iPF9100 printer on the client-workstation, is a �shared printer� from the IPF9000S/IPF9100 on the printserver.

1) Downloading and preparing the installation of the Océ MCT for

the iPF9000S/iPF9100

Océ-fied MCT�s are available and compatible for the following printers and operating systems: Canon iPF9000S Canon iPF9100 Microsoft Windows XP, Vista and 7, both 32 or 64-bit edition MAC

Check the Operating system of your printserver pc and download the corresponding Océ-fied Media Configuration Tool.

Browse with your internet browser to: www.global.oce.com/products and next to the support page of the iPF9xxx printer

Download the MCT installation file �iPF9xxx_Oce_Media_Configuration_Tool-xxbit.exe� which corresponds with your printer and operating system and store it in a temporary folder on your pc. For example C:\Temp

Double click the �iPF9xxx_Oce_Media_Configuration_Tool-xxbit.exe�file and you will be

prompted where to unzip the installation files. Accept the proposed temporary storage folder or change it into a specified folder. For example C:\Temp

When unzipping all installation files will be stored in the specified folder and the installation

procedure of the Media Configuration Tool will be started automatically.

2) Installing the Océ-fied Media Configuration Tool

Once the installation files are unzipped the installation procedure of the Media Configuration

Tool will be started automatically. If the installation procedure is not started automatically browse to the C:\Temp folder and

start the installation wizard by double clicking on �setup.exe� and follow the wizard:

Choose the correct region in which you are located for getting installed all the media types available in that specific region. Note that all Océ Media types will be installed in

all regions. Accept the terms of the licence agreement and click Next

Accept or change the Destinated Installation Folder and click Next

You now have installed the Océ-fied Media Configuration Tool for the Canon

iPF9000S/iPF9100 printer. Next step is running the MCT and uploading the Océ media

types to the iPF9000S/iPF9100 printer and Windows Printer Driver.

3) Uploading the Océ media types to the iPF9000S/iPF9100 printer and Windows Printer Driver

The Media Configuration Tool allows you to:

Add a batch of new Media Types to the printer. The new Media Types are displayed in the driver and on the printer panel LCD.

Edit Media types Delete media types (but the Canon and Océ media types can't be deleted) Show or Hide media types (only applies to the driver, hidden media types are still displayed

on the printer LCD) Re-arrange the order that existing media types are displayed (for both the driver and the

printer LCD) Upload information on the added, deleted or rearranged Media Types to the printer Based on the region choice (EU, Japan, NA) the MCT will install all relevant region Canon

media types plus all available Océ media types.

Precautions: You must log into Windows as an Administrator before the installation. Before the installation, close all the other application software. (You cannot install with

ImagePROGRAF Status Monitor running) Before starting Media Configuration Tool, close all the other application software and the

printer driver screen. Be sure that the iPF9000S/iPF9100 printer is switched on and connected to the network. When registering, adding or editing the media types with Media Configuration Tool, the

printer automatically resets, and the communication will be temporarily terminated. In order to be able to change the settings for the country or region in which the printer will

be used after installation, you must uninstall the Media Configuration Tool, and then do the installation again.

The first time you switch the printer off after executing Update Media Types, this may take a little longer than when the printer is cycled on and off normally.

Start the MCT via the Programs bar.

Click the Update Media Types button Select the Canon iPF9000S/iPF9100 printer and click next

During the update the MCT will communicate with the iPF9000S/iPF9100 printer. Do not

switch OFF the printer during the update. The update will take a few minutes

Close the iPF9000S/iPF9100 Media Configuration Tool by means of the Exit button. You now have installed the 12 Océ media on the Canon iPF9000S/iPF9100 printer and

Windows Printer Driver.

Depending on the selected region now all specific region Canon media types including all 12 Océ

media types are now uploaded to the printer and Window Printer Driver. When loading an Océ media roll on the iPF9000S/iPF9100 printer you are now able to

choose the corresponding Océ Media Type on the printer panel. When printing via the iPF9000S/iPF9100 Windows Printer Driver you can also choose the

correct and corresponding Océ media type.

4) Changing the display media order on printer panel and driver

Océ media by default are displayed/ordered near to its equivalent Canon media qualities. This may be very inconvenient. It is however possible to sort the Océ media in a more convenient order. This can be done via the �Edit Media Type� function in the MCT.

Choose the Océ Media Type and toggle it with the Up- and Down-arrow to the wanted

display order. You can hide media types you do not want to show up in the printer driver It is not possible to delete the Canon and Océ media types

During the update the MCT will communicate with the iPF9000S/iPF9100 printer. Do not switch OFF the printer during the update.

6) Sharing the iPF9000S/iPF9100 in a network

Printing on a client-workstation pc in the network AND having the Océ media available is only

possible if the Canon iPF9000S/iPF9100 printer on the client-workstation is a �shared printer�

from the IPF9000S/IPF9100 on the printserver. Share the iPF9000S/iPF9100 printer by:

Open the Control Panel / Printers tab Open the Canon iPF9000S/iPF9100 printer properties tab by right-clicking the Canon

iPF9000S/iPF9100 icon.
