Page 26: S.K.C.G. AUTONOMOUS COLLEGE · S.K.C.G. AUTONOMOUS COLLEGE PARALAKHEMUNDI DISTRICT GAJAPATI PARALAKHEMUNDI ODISHA ... No. Faculty Non-Teaching Staff Students Alumni Others 2.12 Has

The objectives of Gajapati Memorial Lectures, which have beenannually organised for the last twenty years, is to widen the academic aswell as the intellectual horizon of our students by introducing them todiverse concepts and fields of study through the learned eruditedeliberations of the invited prominent figures which is made further usefulthrough a structured and intense question-answer-interactive session.

The uniqueness of Gajapati Memorial Lectures is its very namingafter Sri. Krushna Chandra Gajapati, the founder of Odisha as a separatestate. The visions and aspirations of this enlightened king inspire one andall. The social and educational backwardness of this tribal dominateddistrict can only be removed by greater awareness of the studentcommunity about recent developments. The fund allocated for theseminar is small. But the organizers have always roped in importantscholars in science, literature and culture for the talks.

Paralakhemundi is a remote border area of Odisha. Students arecut off from the main stream of the educational and cultural life of Odishaand India at large. The Gajapati memorial lecturers were conceived of toremove this disadvantage of our students and make them aware of therecent development in all areas of study. The talks are all published in theform of books and widely circulated among the students, nearbyeducational institutions and leading intellectuals of this area. The opinioncollected through questionnaires is highly satisfying and have encouragedthe college authorities to continue the tradition.

b. Youth RalliesThe youth rallies organized every year on the birth day of

Swami Vivekananda intend to sensitize young students on activities likeblood donation, issues like sexual harassment, women empowerment etc.Blood Donation Camps are held and seminars on these issues areconducted with Officers from District Judiciary as Chief Guests.

The Youth Rallies are important because the youth of today willtake care of this country and its problems in the near future. So it is veryimportant to involve them in constructive and meaningful activities.

c. Weekly SeminarsIn order to take students out of the monotony of classroom and

curricular teaching-learning ambience, the practice of holding weeklyseminars on subject related topics have been encouraged which has comeout largely a successful venture.
