Skelmersdale Community Food Initiative (SCFI) – a proactive health and

wellbeing organisation benefitting the community of Skelmersdale and West Lancashire,

SCFI began life as a project geared towards understanding the importance of food and diet. We like to think that our food and wellbeing activities are universal tools that can bring people together in a non judgemental and anonymous way. The project has developed over time but our aim is always the same, offering practical sessions that are aimed at improving both health and wellbeing in a manner that involves participants at whatever stage they are at in their personal lives. Whether we meet people by attending sessions from our eating well programme, mindfulness and wellbeing tasters and courses, our ongoing groups, attending a Walking Away from Diabetes course, our recently growing physical wellbeing programme that includes tai chi, Pilates and movement classes or our bespoke sessions we deliver with local organisations and agencies we like to think that we not only talk the talk but walk the walk as an organisation and live to the values we aspire others to attain for their own aspirations. We value each individual that comes to SCFI, and want to help each one overcome whatever barriers are personal to them and achieve their full potential.

We are in the position of being able to offer someone up to 10 hours per week at an hourly rate of £10 on a short term contract of 6 months initially but potentially until August 2016

The main areas of involvement will be to:

Join the existing team to deliver on our Eat Well programme - weekly session on food and health and /or eating well 4 less

Provide advice and act as an information resource for the community, re. Diet, health and wellbeing

Work flexibly, to meet the needs of the community.

Work with individuals, groups and agencies to identify concerns and gaps in food accessibility, knowledge and skills.

Plan and deliver a range of innovative and practical initiatives with local agencies and groups

Support national and local awareness campaigns.

Undertake training on current trends and programmes.

Support the existing evaluation systems that exist within the organisation, valuing the importance of monitoring and information collection information
