Sketching Through the Text

This strategy asks you to draw your thinking in the margins while reading text, rather than jotting down ideas in words. The drawings are quick representations that represent words in the text.

Simple and Speedy Sketches

You will make simple sketches that will jog your memory and foster discussion about the text.

The idea is to make speedy sketches of their response, interpretation, or a key question they have based on the text.

Why?

This strategy is similar to text coding with the focus on drawing ideas and reflections.

Some students are visual learners.

As you are reading, you’ll quickly draw simple pictures to help you remember

Sketch your thoughts about the text or important information you learn

Small group & whole class work

Pair/Share – As partners you will compare what each you sketched, connecting you’re thoughts to the sketches
