We will NOT be preloading any core courses for you (you must register yourself in all required courses!; we will preload courses that require departmental approval – e.g. mini-streams).

You are responsible for making sure you are on track to complete degree requirements by the end of fourth year –know your degree plan!

Start using your degree audit form (if you haven’t already) to track progress through your degree.

Pay any outstanding fees to Queen’s before July, so that you are not prevented from registering for courses. If your ‘record is on hold’, you risk not getting into the courses that you need!

2019-20 Registration Information

• Program/Plan Selection: MON MAY 13 to FRI MAY 24 • Official Timetable on SOLUS: MON JUN 17• Course Selection by YR 3 students on SOLUS begins: FRI JUL 19

• During appointment times, some courses are reserved for students in certain degree plans, or in certain levels. This helps give access to courses to particular students regardless of when their appointment time is.

• Pause Day: THUR JUL 25 Registration closed on SOLUS. NEW• Open Enrolment : FRI JUL 26 to FRI AUG 2, reopens TUE AUG 20.

• During open enrollment, all reserves are lifted and courses open unless they are restricted to students in certain degree plans.

WARNING about Record on Hold: If you have a debt to Queen’s, you will not be allowed to register and we cannot preload students into any courses.

Please ensure that any outstanding student fees are paid in full.

NEW Option Course!KNPE 338/3.0 Exploring Active Urban Communities

August 28 to September 4, 2019

This course will explore the interconnections between active living, natural spaces and the built urban environment, with an emphasis on active transport, outdoor recreational activities, civic ecology, urban parts and green spaces, land use and public policy. Students will participate in an expedition-style learning experience, spending a week living, traveling and learning together as a group. This is an experiential course of study whereby students will engage with a variety of community leaders, elders and activists, as well as partake in an array of outdoor physical activities.

Courses over Two Terms For courses that take place over both terms, pay attention to the

credit weighting to be sure that you register in a full course load! • HLTH/KNPE 352 A/B Research Internship (3.0 units)• KNPE 330 A/B & KNPE 346 A/B Athletic Therapy and Strength &

Conditioning Placement courses (4.5 units) – bank 1.5 units for YR 4.

PHE Practica Requirements PACT 335 (Winter) and PACT 403 (Fall or Winter) This is the last time that these courses will be offered, be sure to take

them this year if you need them.

Think ahead to prerequisite courses that you may need to take for post-graduate programs or to help with entry exams (MCAT, LSAT, etc.) Prerequisites for postgraduate programs vary by University, so

familiarize yourself with requirements of schools that you are most likely to apply to.

Visit Career Services in Gordon Hall (3rd floor) to speak with a career advisor.

Watch for EXCLUSIONS: these are courses with significant overlap, so you cannot take both for credit (e.g. KNPE 125/225 and PHGY 212; HLTH 205 and BMED 271).

KIN: Track your progress in meeting the natural/physical science requirements in your degree plan (total of 24.0 units)

Personal Interest Credit• Intended to encourage students to explore subject

matter outside their program of study (must only be allowable as an elective in your degree plan).

• Opt-in process. All Arts and Science students can designate up to 6.0 units of degree-credit courses for pass/fail grading, thereby minimizing any risk to your GPA.

KNPE 337 Physical Activity for Children and Youth (Winter 2020)This course explores topics such as theoretical models of motivation, interest, and interpersonal behaviours, and the design, implementation, and provision of inclusive physical activity environments for children/youth. This course emphasizes the application of theory through activity-based classroom sessions and community placements.Prerequisite (HLTH 270 or KNPE 237) and Level 3 in a KIN or HLTH Major/Medial plan and permission of the UG Chair; Exclusion PACT 237

Enrolment limited to: HLTH students accepted into the Movement & Health mini-stream. Successful KIN applicants. Applications due by: FRI MAY 24 no later than 4:00 p.m.

HLTH/KNPE 300 Community-Based Practicum (Winter 2019)An intensive, one-term, community-based practicum related to your program of study, including placements in workplace settings such as a community health centre, physiotherapy or other allied health care clinic, fitness centre, etc.Prerequisites: Level 3 or above in HLTH (Major/Medial), KIN, PHE Exclusions: KNPE 330, 336, 346.

Research Mini-StreamNo application required; graduate from stream if you complete all required courses.

Requirements: 1. KNPE 251 (Statistics) 2. HLTH 252 (Research Methods) 3. HLTH/KNPE 352 (Research Internship) 4. HLTH/KNPE 595 (Honours Thesis)

Note: No exclusions with other practical mini-streams (can do both).

HLTH/KNPE 352 Research Skills Development Practicum

Fall-Winter Terms, 3.0 units.Students must arrange for an practicum by contacting a professor who will be supervising research interns in 2019-20. Prerequisite: Level 3 in HLTH (Major/Medial), KINE, PHED Co-requisite: HLTH 252 (Fall 2019)

Know what core courses you will miss while on exchange, and what you will need to make up in fourth year.

Contact the IPO for directions, applications and deadlines. Contact the UG Chair only once you have researched your

host university to find out what courses you are eligible to take.
