Ski Safari, Hokkaido, Japan 2019

Mountain Guide Anders Swensson offers a road trip to Japan. I will work with my Japanese mountain guide colleague and friend, Hirofumi Ishizaka. We will be two guides per group, this means good safety and the best local knowledge for the best skiing and culture.

Lodging and food We will stay in traditional “Onsen” (Japanese style hotels with hot springs). The food is excellent and you will get the full experience of the Japanese kitchen. You will be sharing double rooms and sleep on Japanese futon beds. In your room you can dry your ski equipment and make a cup of tea, there is Wi-Fi in all the lodges.

YasuragiWe will enjoy classic Japanese bath’s every day after skiing. In all the ”Onsen" there is an inside and an outside bath. Spending some time in the hot springs is great for stiff ski muscles. There are also the opportunity to try a wild ”Onsen”.

SkiingIn January, Hokkaido receives more snow than you can dream of, it can snow for days and the sun comes and goes. Half a meter of fresh, light snow per day is not unusual. When it is snowing we will ski the trees with perfect openings for great turns.

TouringWe will be mixing lift accessed skiing with day tours depending on the weather. A touring day could mean 3-4 skins, total 600- 1200 meters of altitude per day (earn your turns). We aim to use lifts 2-4 days out of the 7 days skiing.

The price includes2 guides, local transportation (including airport transfers), hotel, half board, hot springs, ski passes (two days).

Not included in priceFlight T/R Sapporo, lunches, drinks and ski passes if the plan changes and we decide to use more lifts.

EquipmentTouring binding, skins, skis that are 95- 105 mm under foot. Transceiver, shovel and probe.

TransportWe will use a 10-8 seated 4 wheel drive bus for our trip.

Classic week program.1. Arrive at Sapporo/Chitose airport, transfer to Kiroro, about 2 hours.2. Skiing in Kiroro ski resort, night in Kiroro3. Skiing in Kokusai ski resort, night in Niseko4. Ski tour on Yotei vulcano, night in Niseko5. Lift accessed skiing in Niseko.6. Half day skiing in Niseko, move to Furano area, night in Kamihoro-So Onsen7. Ski tour on Furano Dake, night in Kamihoro-So Onsen.8. Ski tour on Sandanyama, in the afternoon transfer to Sapporo and a nice dinner.9. Depart
