About The WhitsundaysThe heart of the Great Barrier Reef, in Tropical North Queensland. The Whitsundays 74 islands are located approximately 1100km north of Brisbane and 700km south of Cairns.

The islands are fringed with coral reefs and white beaches and offer many secure anchorages. The outer Great Barrier Reef provides protection from ocean swells. Several resorts are scattered throughout the Whitsunday Islands, most welcome visiting boats, offering evening entertainment, dining, and the use of their facilities.

Getting to the WhitsundaysWhitsunday Coast Airport (also called Proserpine Airport) is located approximately 30 minutes

by taxi or bus from Airlie Beach.

Hamilton Island Airport is approximately 45 minutes by ferry. We can arrange for your boat to meet you at Hamilton Island (charges apply).

Mackay Airport is about two hours drive by car. Car rental and Greyhound bus services are available.

Driving travellers - turn off the Bruce Highway at Proserpine, Airlie Beach is about 20 minutes drive from the turnoff. Public parking is available close to Abell Point Marina and under cover security parking can be arranged.

Experience RequirementsNo formal boating qualifications are required to charter a boat with Whitsunday Escape. To enjoy a safe and stress-free holiday it is important that you know where you are going,

how to get there safely and how to anchor your boat.

For those wishing to brush up on their boating or navigation skills, you can hire a ‘sail-guide’ for half a day or longer, or we can give recommendations on gaining experience prior to arrival.
