It's autumn, and though that means the sun slowly slips out of view and the nights get longer, the work never stops to make sure Skypark is Scotland's biggest and best business campus. By now you should have seen our smart new reception, and we'd like to thank you all for your understanding and patience during the refurbishment period. I think you'll agree the makeover has been a success, and hopefully all Skypark tenants will make the most of the improved facilities!

In this issue we offer a warm welcome to new tenants Create, Fleet Alliance and hub West Scotland, which you can read about in detail on pages 5, 7 and 9. Elsewhere on the campus Filament PD has expanded and we have an exclusive interview with them about their exciting plans for their new hi-tech workshop – see page 6 for more details.

We've got a round-up of past events, such as this summer's brilliant Slip 'n' Slide and Tiki Party, as well as upcoming events that all Skypark tenants are invited to attend, like the Insider Business Breakfast: Countdown to the Referendum on 2nd September.

Along with our improved range of facilities, which you can find out about on pages 16, it's fair to say that the fun (and work!) never stops at Skypark.

We hope you enjoy the rest of the summer and the rest of this issue of Skyline!

Best wishes

Four Seasons Nursery at Skypark has been shortlisted for the “Nursery of the Year Award,

Scotland” with the ceremony being held at the Hilton on the 2nd September. Inez Murray the nursery owner said, ‘One of their practitioners has also been shortlisted so we are very excited! There was a large number of entries so we have done well to get so far.’

Inez Murray, has been awarded ‘Sector Champion Early Years, Scotland’ by the National Day Nurseries Association for her work across Scotland and her dedication to the early years.

Celebrating success at Four SeasonsInez commented, “We also celebrated our own Commonwealth Games success with a wonderful sports day when we ran, jumped and even threw a hammer (albeit a small cork one). The parents’ races were the most competitive! We raised money for Sports Scotland as part of the legacy for the Games.

“The previous week we ran a baton relay from our other nursery on Waterloo Street to Skypark. Every time the children passed the baton they shouted “Scotland” which seemed to have an impact on our Commonwealth Games results. Councillor Matheson,

leader of Glasgow City Council, set us off then came to the nursery to hand out certificates to the children.

“We have recently had our Graduation ceremony, and we celebrated the success of our children heading to school. There were tears and smiles as we remembered all the many activities, outings and friendships made over their time at Four Seasons. The children videoed themselves asking about what they were going to do when they grew up, ranging from a policeman who would catch baddies to one who wanted to work for HSBC to give people money - a rather nice idea!”

hub West has in fact been a next-door neighbour of Skypark, having been based at Elliot Street Mews since June 2012. The team are thrilled to move into the offices in Suite 7/3 of Skypark 1 to make the most of its diverse business community and wide range of first-class services.

Debbie McNamara, Chief Executive of hub West, says: “The move into Skypark was seamless with the office fully operational from day one. The team are enjoying the new office environment which is more spacious and better quality than our previous one. The office also provides us with better facilities for our partners when they visit. Being on the seventh floor also means we get to enjoy the great views!”

For more information on hub West, please visit www.hubwestscotland.co.uk.

Skypark would like to welcome hub West to Scotland’s biggest business campus, as the public private joint venture development organisation makes the short move to Suite 7/3 of Skypark 1.

hub West works in partnership with public sector bodies to provide estate development services, such as offering upfront strategic planning services or designing and constructing new buildings. By working with its extensive supply chain it provides value-for-money procurement that delivers a higher standard of public buildings across the west of Scotland.

Currently hub West is working across over 30 live projects valued at £250m. One project under construction is Johnstone Town Hall with Renfrewshire Council, which will open in spring 2015 and will be home to a range of public services including a community library. Closer to Skypark are the completed Clydebank East Workshops, which received an RIBA Award earlier in the year, developed by hub West in partnership with Clydebank re-built.

Say hello to new tenant, hub West!

In a former storeroom in the basement of Skypark 3, the company has created Filament PD Labs, 1,701

sq. ft. of new ‘maker space’ in which the designers are able to manufacture and test-run products using a wide range of cutting-edge technology.

The Filament PD team are looking forward to making the most of their new workshop, and this month Skyline sat down with Design Director Craig Lynn to give us a bit of background to the expansion.

What does Filament PD do?We are a product development agency ‘for the new industrial revolution’. What we mean by that is we help our clients develop products from initial ‘back of the napkin’ sketches to fully manufactured products, while taking full advantage of the recent changes in culture, business and technology.

Our specialist knowledge in emerging fields such as additive manufacturing, connected devices, crowd-funding and ‘open innovation’ means that we can reduce the time and risk of bringing new products to market.

Why did you choose to expand downstairs? We always have the need to make physical prototypes – being able

Tenant focus:

to quickly go from initial sketch to having a working part in your hand to test fit and feel is a vital part of the development process. Having the capability and space that allows us to simply pop down the stairs and get making means that we can reduce development time and costs for our own projects and our clients.

How has the move-in been? We’re slowly getting the space exactly how we like it, making sure it both looks good and works well for the team. It’s been a number of late nights but we should be fully up and running within the next couple of weeks. After that we have a shopping list of new ‘toys’ we want to buy, from laser cutters to more advanced 3D printers.

What do you hope to make in the space? It will range from early mechanical and electronics prototypes all the way through to fully assembled production units.

What projects are you currently working on? In the space just now we have early prototypes of a new desktop 3D scanner, an immersive spherical projection simulator, internet connected devices for home heating management and a production sample of a new bank note scanning device.

What does the future hold for Filament PD?2014 has been a very good year and we plan to accelerate this growth in 2015 by expanding the team, developing more of our in-house products and by manufacturing more products for our clients.

CARERS TRUST HOST BRITAIN’S BEST BREAKFASTSkypark tenant Carers Trust will be running its first ever national fundraising campaign! Britain’s Best Breakfast asks people to get together with their colleagues, friends or family members to raise awareness and funds for the UK’s seven million unpaid carers.

At Skypark, Carers Trust will be running a pop up-breakfast event, but there are lots of ways you or your organisation could get involved with the initiative. You could host a breakfast in your office and ask your colleagues to make a donation, or you could give up your shop-bought coffee and breakfast for a week and donate what you saved by eating brekkie at home.

Visit www.britainsbestbreakfast.org for more fundraising ideas and downloadable fundraising resources.

For more information on how to get involved, please contact Yvonne Hughes at [email protected].

Alliance is one of the UK’s 2014 Best Workplaces and has been awarded Investors in People Gold status, not to mention we’re heading for our fourth successive record performance year which has seen us reach for the sky!

“The views from our new 9th floor suite in Skypark are simply stunning; from the Finnieston crane to Glasgow University – not to mention the Hydro. Skypark is at the heart of what I believe is the fastest developing area of the City, and perfectly situated between the City centre and the stunning west-end. The facilities on offer within the development (gym, nursery, cafe) and the great community feel, were all significant factors in our choice to come to Skypark,” finishes Martin.

If you are interested in Fleet Alliance’s services find out more online www.fleetalliance.co.uk.

We’re pleased to announce that Fleet Alliance has joined our buzzing business community!

Fleet Alliance is a leading UK fleet management provider offering contract hire, leasing and a complete range of fleet solutions products to businesses across the UK. It also caters for the ever-increasing market for car leasing for private individuals. From its head office in Glasgow, it manages over 14,000 vehicles throughout the UK with a combined asset value of £300m.

Martin Brown, managing director gives us the low down on the company’s success. Martin says, “Our growing team of over 50 people, manage the fleet requirements of many types of business, from companies requiring one or two vehicles, to our largest clients who operate fleets in excess of 400 vehicles. We deliver this via our bespoke cloud based fleet management system and reporting suite, e-fleet and our and award winning e-fleet Mobile app.

“As part of our Fleet Alliance Loves culture initiative, we encourage our people to embrace all aspects of charity, community and the environment. We’re proud to have raised over £150,000 for local charities such as Maggie’s, The Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice and even Siloam Orphanage in Kenya.”

Beyond it’s charitable efforts one of the largest contributions the company makes is to the environment - over the last 6 years it has reduced its clients CO2 by a total of 7.2 billion grams – this equates to 1,615 vehicles taken off the road. Martin continues, “We are really proud of this result! Fleet

A huge thank you to Miss Scotland and everyone at Skypark, that took part in our summer site social. You raised a whopping £2,013 for the charity Cash for Kids!

The event saw Skyparkers zooming on lilos down our 300ft water slide made of plastic sheets, 300 bales of hay, water and washing up liquid to raise cash for the charity.

Angela Higgins, asset manager of Skypark said: “A huge thanks to everyone in our community and their families that took part in the waterslide. It’s one of many events that will make a difference to vulnerable children and their families.”

Susan Altenburg of Clyde 1&2 Cash for Kids added “Thanks to all at Skypark who made a splash for Cash for Kids. All funds raised go to support the most vulnerable children and their families in communities across Glasgow and the West of Scotland. Every penny donated is spent on the children and families who desperately need help.”

Last issue we featured a trio of charity fundraisers from Travel 2 - here’s how they got on...

In June Mark Henderson took on Tough Mudder Scotland and raised £270 for Help for Heroes and the Old Victorians Association that supports injured service men and women.

Karen Munro took part in the Coca-Cola Long Run 2014 and raised £210 for Kudakudhinge Hiyaa, a children’s home in the Maldives.

And Andy Freeth raised a whopping £3,110 for ABTA Lifeline, a charity that gives support to those in the travel industry and their family when they need it most, by completing the 10K London Run in July.

Well done, Travel 2!

Well done to the fantastic team of bakers at Seatec who raised an amazing £570 for Macmillan Cancer Support!

We all enjoyed lots of delicious cakes at their bake sale on 15th August. Thanks to everyone for your donations and support.

Filament PD are cycling all the way from Moscow to Houston to raise money for Cancer Support Scotland! The product design company are hoping to raise funds for the charity that provides support for those affected by cancer in Scotland by cycling 35 miles between the two towns on Sunday 24th August.

310 miles in 3 days for Adventure Charity...A team of ten men, made up of Mark Holmes of Moorfield Group (Skypark joint owners) and a group of colleagues and friends, embarked on their own adventure by cycling from Skypark, through the Highlands via Inverness to Aberdeen.

A gruelling 310 miles in tough (though traditionally Scottish!) conditions saw them raise £4,243 for the ‘First Adventure Days’ initiatives organised by the charity Wide Horizons.

‘First Adventure Days’ aims to provide 10,000 children with the opportunity to experience adventure for the first time. Over 80% of people in the UK live in urban areas and Widehorizons provides such children, who do not normally have the opportunity to spend much time out of the City, with a chance to experience wild rural environments and learn new skills at its UK-wide Adventure Centres.

You can find out more about the charity here www.widehorizons.org.uk

The money raised will give 157 children the adventure of a lifetime!

Who’s your style icon?I don’t have a style icon. I don’t copy anyone’s fashion - I don’t need to!! I do buy a lot of Hugo Boss stuff.

Most prized wardobe item?Hard question ‘cause I’ve got loads of cool stuff – but my most prized item would have to be my Armani suit. It cost a fortune but it’s the best fitted suit I’ve ever owned. It’s darkish grey with a great cut, and probably because of the cost I would say this is my most prized item. For casual stuff it’s pretty much loads of t-shirts and jeans and I wouldn’t have a favourite really. I’ve got a pair of Adidas Hightops which are black and orange which are really cool which come a close second to my suit

Biggest fashion disaster?I’ve never really had any major fashion disasters because it’s not something I worry about and when I’m out with mates we all slag each other anyway but I’ve never had any bad comments from the females!! I suppose that the one thing that has happened a few times is not wearing a belt with...

What’s your most prized wardrobe item?My most prized wardrobe item would have to be a leather jacket which I’ve had for years. Even though I don’t wear it as much now, I can’t bear to throw it out.

What’s your biggest fashion disaster? My biggest fashion disaster was probably the whole four years at uni when I lived in hoodies and wore printed t-shirts with ridiculous slogans on them.

...jeans or suit trousers. This might seem like a small thing but it’s a pretty big deal. A belt is essential with jeans or suit trousers and that’s just basic fashion. The only reason I didn’t wear one was because I forgot to pack it when I was travelling somewhere for a conference or weekend away. Never trust a man who doesn’t wear a belt!!
