ALUMNI PRESIDENT(CON'n\t - rn NR()pt PAGI I ))

One of Mr . Menuninger's qualifica-tions for president of the Alumni Asso-ciation is his wide acquaintance with sev-eral different generations of students atO . U . He first enrolled on the () . U .campus as a student in the preparatorydepartment in 1919 . lie took four yearsof college work and received the B . A .degree . He enrolled again in 1929 andcompleted most of his law work with theclass that graduated in 1931 . However,he came back later in the spring term of1933 and completed his work for the LL .11 . degree .As an undergraduate student in the

University, Mr. Memminger took part inclass athletics, was interested in studentdramatics, literary societies, publicationsand almost everything else of interest onthe campus . He played class baseball,football and basketball . He was assistantbusiness manager of the 1913 SoonerYearbook and served the next year asmember of the publication board . Hehad a part in a German play presentedby Teutonia, German Club, in 1913 ; thenext year he played "Uncle Buck" in theannual burlesque sponsored by the juniorclass, and he had a part in the senior playof 1914 . He found time to serve on theY . M . C . A . cabine t three years and wastreasurer of the organization in his senioryear .However, young Memminger wasn't so

completely serious as his record of sub-stantial activities might indicate . It wasduring his time in school that the en-gineers' smoke stack was first desecratedby the painting of "D . 1) . M . C." highon the stack . He wasn't one of the twofoolhardy students who volunteered to letthemselves be pulled up to the top of thesmoke stack on a precarious platformdrawn up by a cable, but he was one ofthe trustworthy men who held onto thecable at the bottom of the smoke stackand enabled the dangerous painting jobto be completed without any fatalities .

That's the kind of man Charlie Mem-tningcr is . You don't find him doingspectacular things to attract public at-tention, but you find him always with asteady hand on the cable doing his shareof the important ground work behindany worthwhile project in his communityor state .
