  • INTRODUCTIONHybrid solar-wind hybrid generator for small scale electronic devices is developed as means to supply electricity to model of highway and roads. It is installed at highways and roads to advice users when driving which a caution signage with LEDs signage such as turn left or right arrow. This project is combination of wind turbine and PV module with rechargeable battery for energy backup purpose.

  • PROBLEM STATEMENT

  • PROTOTYPE OF HYBRID SOLAR-WIND GENERATOR FOR SMALL SCALE ELECTRONIC DEVICES

  • Two unit of 12V 3Watt are connected in parallel which resulted 12V 6Watt which used to convert solar radiation into DC electrical power. It is combined with 12V 50Watt DC generator which specifically designed to convert the winds kinetic energy into DC electrical power.

To get more efficient output, the output is connected to the input of buck and boost converter.

The buck and boost converter regulate the output to over than 12V to sufficient the charger controller to be functioned.

Then, the charger controller continuously maintains the correct charge level to the 12V 7AH sealed lead acid battery

  • RESULT

  • Total Capacity of Charging = Average Output Current x Total Time of Charging = 0.81 A x 12 Hours = 9.72 AH (but discharge when over than 7AHTime required to full charge = Battery capacity / Average output current = 7AH / 0.81A = 8.64 9 hoursPeriod of time the battery runs out = Capacity of battery / Input Current Load = 7AH / 0.3 = 23.33 23 hours and 20 minutesBased on graph,Current Output (Average) = 0.81ATotal time able to charge = 12 hours

  • CONCLUSIONThe objective of this project is achieved which are:

The solar and wind energy potential and requirement for installation at highways able to be investigated.

A hybrid solar-wind microgenerator for small scale electronic devices is designed and developed

The real working states and performance of the completed hybrid system is tested and optimized.
