The 3 Day faculty development program was organized by Dept. of Mechanical Engineering from26th to 28th July, 2018 at Vivekananda College of Engineering & Technology, Puttur.This 3 Day Faculty Development Program thematically over Turbo machines and with its subtopicsconducted with an objective of continuous improvement of Teaching Learning process. The FDP wasinaugurated on 26th morning at 10.00 am by lightingthe Lamp by Dr. Abdul Sherrief, Principal PACE,Mangaluru. The Program was presided by Sri Vishwas Shenoy, The Director, VCET GoverningCouncil. Dr. M S Govinde Gowda, Principal VCET and Sri Ravikrishna D Kallaje, the Director,VCET Governing Council were present on the dias.

The FDP on Turbo machines received an overwhelming response from the faculties of differentcolleges all over Karnataka. Total 22 out station and 12 in-house participants attended the FDP.

The Entire FDP was split into 6 sessions 2 each on every day. The subtopics were discussed in detailby eminent academicians came from reputed educational institutes with a vast subject expertise. Thetopics covered in the FDP were:

Introduction to Turbo-Machies & Thermodynamics of fluid Flow were discussed by Dr AbdulSherrief. Dr. Govinde Gowda, Principal Vivekananda College of Engineering & Technology discussedthe Energy transfer in Turbo machines.

Second day Dr Shridhar T N, Professor NIE, Mysore covered Steam Turbines and conductedpractical session on graphical methods.

Second day afternoon session was handled by Dr. Ramakrishna N Hegde, Professor & Head Dept. ofAutomobile Engineering, S.I.T Valchil. Dr Hegde covered on Centrifugal Pumps and Compressors.

Last day the first session was handled by Prof. Sunil Lakkundi over Hydraulic Turbines. The last session on 3rd day handled by Dr. M S Govinde Gowda on the topic

Sri. Rajaram C.G., Proprietor, ECO Vision, Balipaguli, Vittal, was the Chief Guest of the function

which was Presided by Sri. Ravikrishna D. Kallaje, Director, Governing Council, VCET Puttur.

The activities of MESA for the academic year 2018-19 was inaugurated by lighting the lamp.

Assistant Prof. Mr. Akshay Kumar welcomed the gathering. HOD of Mechanical Engineering

Department Dr. Manujesh B.J, gave an introduction to Mechanical Engineering Students’

Association and presented a brief report of MESA activities for the academic year. The chief guest

badged the new office bearers of MESA, Mr. Vivek Iyyer as the President, Mr. Shravan Upadhyaya

as Secretary and Mr. Ajay Alva K as the Joint Secretary. The chief guest being an Entrepreneur

himself guided the students by sharing his experience on starting up an own venture. He suggested the

students to work in industry before becoming entrepreneurs to gain knowledge about the

administration of the industry. He also gave a brief presentation about his industry Eco Vison.

President of the function Sri. Ravikrishna D. Kallaje addressing the gathering gave a call to the

students to become entrepreneurs thereby be successful job creators rather than mere job seekers. Dr.

M. S. Govinde Gowda, Principal, VCET, Puttur, also addressed the gathering congratulating the

department for achieving great success in previous academic year. He also wished the students to

bring more laurels to the department. MESA coordinator, Mr. Vrijesh Rai S, proposed the vote of

thanks.

After the formal function Branch entry event was held wherein the third semester students were

welcomed into the Mechanical Engineering branch.

Presided by Sri. K Vishwas Shenoy Director, Governing Council, VCET Puttur. The activities of

VCET PUTTUR SAEINDIA COLLEGIATE CLUB for the academic year 2018-19 was inaugurated by

lighting the lamp. VCET PUTTUR SAEINDIA COLLEGIATE CLUB student president Mr. Yashas B

K welcomed the gathering and gave an introduction to SAEINDIA COLLEGIATE CLUB and

presented a brief glimpses of this collegiate club. The chief guest being an Entrepreneur himself

guided the students by sharing his experience on starting up an own venture. He suggested the students

to work in industry before becoming entrepreneurs to gain knowledge about the administration of the

industry. President of the function Sri. K Vishwas Shenoy addressing the gathering gave a call to the

students to utilize this club to take part in all events under SAEINDIA and get success. He also assured

that for all SAE events, VCET management will provide the needed support. Dr. M. S. Govinde

Gowda, Principal, VCET, Puttur, also addressed the gathering congratulating the department for

achieving great success in previous year events. He also wished the students to bring more laurels to

the department and also advised the students to come up with new ideas by consulting with the staff

for the incubation center at VCET Puttur. VCET PUTTUR SAEINDIA COLLEGIATE CLUB student

vice-president, Mr. Shamith, proposed the vote of thanks. Miss. Priyanka Prabhu was the master of

ceremony , throughout the program.

After the formal function Mr. Purushotham S Joshi gave the steps involved in the fabrication of

SAEINDIA event vehicle and also the importance of rapid prototype or 3D printing in the present

scenario. Mr. Shushanth, MC of SAEINDIA Bengaluru region gave glimpse of new upcoming events

under SAEINDIA.

The one Day Seminar was organized by Dept. of Mechanical Engineering on 08th of September, 2018at Vivekananda College of Engineering & Technology, Puttur.This one Day seminar thematically over Advancement’s in the field of Materials Science and with its subtopics conducted with an objective to know the current happenings in industries and to improve the

knowledge of our students. The Seminar was inaugurated on 08th morning at 9.30 am by lighting the Lamp, Dr. Ramesh Kumar M, Senior PrincipalScientist, NAL Bangalore PACE. The Program was presided by Sri Satish Rao P President, VCET Governing Council. Dr. M S Govinde Gowda, PrincipalVCET.

The Seminar on ADVANCED MATERIALS PROCESSING & TESTING received an overwhelming response from the students of Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering. Total 170 in-house participants attended the Seminar.

The Entire Seminar was split into 4 sessions. The subtopics were discussed in detail by eminentScientists and academician from reputed Industry and educational institutes with a vast subjectexpertise.

The topics covered in the Seminar were:

1. Talk on “Nano Technology” by Dr. Saji Davadathan.

2. Talk on “Advanced Composite Manufacturing” by Mr.Karuppannan.

3. Talk on “Non Destructive Testing Methods” by Dr.Ramesh Kumar.

4. Talk on “Tribology on Polymer Matrix Composites” by Dr.N Mohan.

The one Day Seminar had an active participation and fruitful interactions with resource persons as well as among the participants. I am sure that the deliberations that happened here will go long way in improving the knowledge of our students.

GAMEATHON-2K18 an inter collegiate events was organized by Department of Mechanical

Engineering under the VCET PUTTUR SAEINDIA COLLEGIATE CLUB on 05th and 6th ofOctober 2018 at VCET Campus. GAMEATHON-2K18 had games which were a combination of bothtraditional and modern games. It consisted of 24 events namely Mehandi, Dance (Solo & Group),Lagori, pencil sketch, carom, auto cross, paper rocket, tug of war, treasurer hunt etc… Dr. Deepak KB,Prof.Sateesha Kumar faculty advisors of VCET PUTTUR SAEINDIA COLLEGIATE CLUB alongwith Prof.Ajith K were in charge of GAMEATHON-2K18.

Sri. K. Vishwas Shenoy, Director, VCET Governing Council, Puttur, was the Chief Guest of thefunction, which was presided by Dr. M. S. Govinde Gowda, Principal, VCET, Puttur. GAMEATHON-2K18 an inter college event was inaugurated by lighting the lamp and playing a game of cricket by the

dignitaries on 5th of October 2018 at 9:30am in VCET Campus. Miss. Kushali of 7th semesterMechanical Engg. welcomed the gathering and gave an introduction to GAMEATHON-2K18 andpresented brief glimpses of the event that’s going to unfold. The chief guest showed his appreciationtowards the conduction of this type of events and gave his best wishes to the participants. President ofthe function Dr. M. S. Govinde Gowda addressed the gathering by giving a call to the participants toutilize this opportunity to take part in all events under GAMEATHON-2K18 and get success. VCETPUTTUR SAEINDIA COLLEGIATE CLUB student President Mr. Yashas B proposed the vote ofthanks. Mr. Vashanth was the master of ceremony, throughout the program.

Cultural Program

On 5th October 2018 evening a special cultural program was organized by VCET PUTTURSAEINDIA COLLEGIATE CLUB on the account of GAMEATHON-2K18 4; 45pm. Sri. ArjunKapikad and Sri. Anoop Sagar, actors of Tulu film Industry, were the Chief Guests of the function,which was presided by Sri. Ravikrishna D Kallaje, Director, Governing Council, VCET Puttur and the

Guest of Honour, Sri. Muralidhar Bhat B, Treasurer, Governing Council, VCET Puttur. 7th semester

Mechanical Engg. Student Miss. Priyanka Prabhu welcomed the gathering and Mr. Amruth K, 5th

semester Mechanical Engg. introduced the chief guests to the gathering. Both Chief Guest beingActors, gave promo about their new film called “Yera Ullerige!” and requested audience support Tulu

language by watching more Tulu films & told students to study regularly along with enjoyment.President of the function Sri. Ravikrishna D Kallaje addressed the gathering, congratulating the entireVCET PUTTUR SAEINDIA COLLEGIATE CLUB team for the conduction of such events andappreciated the efforts of Sri. Arjun Kapikad father for the present state of Tulu film industry, which isprospering. VCET PUTTUR SAEINDIA COLLEGIATE CLUB student vice-president, Mr. Shamith,proposed the vote of thanks. Miss. Kushali and Mr. Prethan Kumar were the master of ceremonythroughout the program.

Valedictory Function:

On 6th October 2018 a Valedictory Function was conducted at 3:30pm.

Sri. Sahaj Rai Ballajja, Young Entrepreneur, Puttur, was the Chief Guest of the function which was

presided by Sri. Sathish Rao P, President, Governing Council, VCET Puttur. 5th Semester MechanicalEngineering, Mr. Ashish Raj welcomed the gathering. The chief guest being an Entrepreneur himself,addressed the gathering by encouraging the students to participate in large numbers in such events, asevents as these gave them good exposure and reminded the students that whole hearted participation ismore important than winning. President of the function Sri. Sathish Rao P addressing the gathering,congratulating the entire VCET PUTTUR SAEINDIA COLLEGIATE CLUB team for the conductionof such event and its grand success and also told the students that participating in such eventsdeveloped their overall personality. Extracurricular activities are as important as studies. After thechief guest & presidential talk, prizes of all the events were handed over to the prize winners and

overall championship trophy was won by students of KVG College of Engineering, Sullia. After theprize giving ceremony, Mr. Shravan Nayak, a cyclist who spreads awareness regarding Swach Bharatthrough cycling all over India was felicitated by Department of Mechanical Engineering. Mr.Shrevathsa, proposed the vote of thanks and Miss. Kushali was the master of ceremony, for theprogram.

In GAMEATHON -2K18 an Inter college event total 700 plus students participated from differentneighboring Engineering Colleges.
