Top 10 reasons to shop locallyGettiNG Started
The first-ever Small Business Sat-urday took place on Nov 27, 2010. Ironically, it was launched by a big business, American Express.
It encouraged people across the country to support small, local businesses.
In 2011 the day increasingly was given “official status.” From Wash-ington, D.C., to Washington State, governors, mayors, senators, and even President Obama, all voiced their support for Small Business Saturday.
In 2012, an estimated 73 million people shopped at small business on Small Business Saturday.
In 2014, an estimated $14.3 bil-lion was spent at small businesses on small business Saturday.

Ludington Area Center for the Arts hosts huge
holiday craft show
daiLy NewS fiLe photoVendors sell everything from games to jewelry at the Ludington Area Center for the Arts on Nov. 28.
This year’s Ludington Area Center for the Arts hol-iday craft show features 28 Michigan artists and craft-ers.
The seventh annual event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28 at the cen-ter, 107 S. Harrison St.
The show has been re-vamped with exhibitors in the main gallery, vestibule lobby, and downstairs room and hall. In addition, the tra-ditional resale shoppe will be located in the Perfor-mance Hall this year.
The LACA Gift Shop will also be open.
:”This holiday crafts show on the Saturday of Thanks-giving weekend is the per-fect example of the concept
of Small Business Saturday. It brings 28 small business people from western Michi-gan to one convenient loca-tion, the arts center, where the community can stop in and shop for their holiday items,” said Marion Riedl, LACA craft show chair. “And the fact that the craft show is held at the arts cen-ter which is located right in downtown Ludington, is also a benefit to the local community because it helps to draw people downtown.”
Proceeds from the booth and table rental fees paid by the exhibitors, as well as admission donations from those attending, are used to support the arts center and its programs.

Letters to Santa
welcome in downtown Ludington
Santa Claus is eager to hear from Ludington area children. His elves have placed a box in the James Street Plaza, and they will retrieve the letters and have Santa respond with a per-sonal letter — as long as an an address is included.
Santa is interested in hear-ing what boys and girls would like for Christmas but also if there is a family need he and his elves should know about as well.
Letters are also welcome at www.ludingtondailynews.com.
