support, control, and secure devices in your organization. You can manage SMART Board® interactive
displays with iQ and devices running Windows®, Chrome OS™, Android™, and iOS operating systems, all from

About the interfaceWhen you sign in to SMART Remote Management, you see the dashboard:
Click at the top of the page to expand the menu. The menu includes:

DashboardThe dashboard appears when you sign in to SMART Remote Management. The Dashboard displays live
information about devices and users on the account.

Devices
The Devices page displays information about connected devices. You can choose what information to
display on this page by clicking Columns and turning on the sliders of the columns you want to display:

The following are common columns you would typically want to display for SMART Board interactive
displays with iQ:

When you select a device, you’ll see a device dashboard similar to this:
From this dashboard, you can view general information about the device, see a list of apps installed on the
device, and device usage. The device dashboard also offers management tools, such as starting a remote
session, applying settings and policies and more. To learn more about the device dashboard, see

The Commands page displays the following information about commands you’ve sent to devices:

RepositoriesIn the Repositories menu, you can upload packages, create policies, and set up task workflows. After you’ve
added them, you can send them to devices. The Repositories menu includes:

Policies Create policies and apply them to devices. Policies can block or enable apps,or enable or restrict device features.

NOTE
Device pairing is a new security layer added to the device provisioningprocess. Once a pairing password is set in the account global settings page,the device enrollment process includes an additional step of an accountpassword verification. This helps avoid accidental enrollment to a wrongaccount.

Set up SMART Remote Management for your organization by signing up for an account and adding users.
Before you begin, be sure to configure your organization’s network for SMART Remote Management.
Configuring the networkSMART Remote Management requires that specific URLs and ports be added to the allowlist in the network
and device settings for your organization.
To configure the network for SMART Board interactive displays with iQ
Add these URLs and ports to the network allowlist:

To configure the network for devices

Creating and activating a domain accountCreate a SMART Remote Management domain account for your organization to begin using the application.
When you register for the first time, you will start a free 30-day trial automatically.
To continue using SMART Remote Management after the trial period ends, activate the domain account with
a product key. A product key can be obtained in two ways:
l You can purchase a product key from a SMART reseller, who provided an email to access your key from
the SMART Admin Portal (smarttech.com/buy/find-reseller).
l You purchased a SMART Board interactive display which included a subscription to SMART Remote
Management. If this applies to you, you claim the subscription in the SMART Admin Portal (see To claim
your product key for a subscription in the SMART Admin Portal on page 15).

To create for a domain account and start a trial
1. Open a Firefox or Chrome browser and visit mdm.smarttech.com.
2. Click REGISTER.
The SMART Remote Management registration page appears.
3. In the field, type a name for the domain after admin@.
EXAMPLE
admin@smarttechnologies
The “domain” name is the name of your organization’s SMART Remote Management account and will
be used to create other user accounts and enroll devices. In the example previously provided, the
domain is “smarttechnologies.”
NOTES
o The domain name must be in the following format: admin@domainname.
o Only use numbers or lowercase letters.
4. Enter the remaining information, and then click REGISTER.

5. You will receive an email that includes a link to activate your account. Click the link and sign in using the
credentials you created to complete the registration.
After you complete the registration, the 30 day trial period starts. If you have a product key, you must
enter it to continue using SMART Remote Management after the trial period ends.
To claim your product key for a subscription in the SMART Admin Portal
1. Sign in to your SMART Admin Portal account (see
support.smarttech.com/docs/redirect/?product=adminportal&context=SignIn). If you or your
organization does not have a SMART Admin Portal account, sign up for a free account (see
support.smarttech.com/docs/software/admin-portal/en/signing-up/default.cshtml).
2. Claim your SMART Remote Management subscription (see
support.smarttech.com/docs/redirect/?product=adminportal&context=Claim).
3. In the SMART Admin Portal, locate your product key (see
support.smarttech.com/docs/redirect/?product=adminportal&context=KeysSeatsRenewals).
4. Save or copy the product key. You will need to enter it in SMART Remote Management following the
next procedure.
NOTE
If you purchased multiple SMART Board interactive displays in the same purchase order, they will all
have the same product key for SMART Remote Management.
To activate your organization’s account with a product key
1. Sign in to your Admin or Administrator admin account.
2. Click , and then click ACCOUNT.
3. Enter your product key in the Code number box, and then click ACTIVATE.

Adding users to the accountAfter setting up the domain account for your organization, you can start to add users. SMART Remote
Management provides a number of account profiles that can access different features and information. This
table describes the differences among the profiles.

1. Click Users .
2. Click Add .
The Add New Users window appears.
3. Type a user name, email, and password for the profile.
NOTES
o The user name must be in the following format: username@domainname. Remember to use onlynumbers and lowercase letters.
o Remember, the domain name is the one you used to create the original admin account when
you registered for SMART Remote Management:

5. If you’d like to change the default language, select a language from the language drop-down list.

Now that the initial set up for SMART Remote Management is completed, enroll devices you want to manage
with SMART Remote Management.
Enrolling a SMART Board interactive displaySMART Board interactive displays with iQ and SMART Board MX100 interactive displays have a built-in
feature that enables you to enroll the panel with your organization’s SMART Remote Management account.
When you enroll one of these displays, you can use SMART Remote Management to centrally control
features and settings for the display, such as:
l Wi-Fi
l wallpaper
l certificates
l available apps

Enrolling a SMART Board interactive display with iQIn most situations, you can enroll a SMART Board interactive display with iQ directly from the display settings
by providing the domain name you created for your organization and reviewing and accepting the terms and
conditions.
In some situations, you may want to provide additional information, including the MDM server address, the
device’s name, and a password for locking the display’s settings in SMART Remote Management. For these
situations, you can use the advanced wizard.

NOTE
Some SMART Board interactive displays with iQ have a compute card or an appliance with a Windows
operating system. If you want to use SMART Remote Management to manage the compute card’s
operating system, you need to enroll it as a separate device (see Enrolling other devices on page 21).
To enroll a SMART Board interactive display with iQ
1. Make sure the display with iQ is connected to the internet and that it has the latest version of iQ system
software.
2. On the display, select Settings > System > Remote management > Remote Management Enabled
and enable SMART Remote Management on the display.
3. On the display, select Settings > System > Remote management > Launch Remote Management
Settings.
4. Type the domain name you created for your organization (for example “smarttechnologies”) in the
Account name box.
5. Tap I accept the terms and conditions, review the terms and conditions, and then select the check box
if you accept them.
6. Click Enroll.
The display is now enrolled in SMART Remote Management. Next time you sign in, you’ll see the
display listed in the devices page.
To enroll a SMART Board interactive display with iQ using the advanced wizard
1. Make sure the display with iQ is connected to the internet and that it has the latest version of iQ system
software.
2. On the display, select Settings > System > Remote management > Remote Management Enabled
and enable SMART Remote Management on the display.
3. On the display, select Settings > System > Remote management > Launch Remote Management
Settings.
4. Tap Click here to enroll using the ‘Advanced wizard’.
5. Complete the connection wizard. Refer to this table for details about the required information.
Field Description
Account name Enter the domain name you created for your organization, for example“smarttechnologies.”
MDM Server address This field contains https://smart.glbth.com/glbth/v1 by default.

6. Tap Next.
7. (Optional) Enter one or more identifying tags for the device, and then tap Next.
TIPS
o Tags help you identify and filter devices in SMART Remote Management.
o Tagging devices is particularly helpful for filtering the list of connected devices in SMART
Remote Management. Tagging devices not only makes it easier for you to locate a specific
device or group of devices quickly, it also makes it easier to apply actions, commands, or work
flows to the filtered devices.
8. (Optional) Enter a password for the Remote Management agent, and then tap Next.
NOTE
This password will be used in SMART Remote Management to manage the display if you want to lock
down its settings.
9. Tap Next.
10. Review the terms and conditions, select I agree if you accept them, tap Next, and then tap Finish.
The display is now enrolled in SMART Remote Management. Next time you sign in, you’ll see the
display listed in the devices page.
Enrolling a SMART Board MX100 interactive display
1. Make sure the display is connected to the internet and that it has firmware version 1.9.9 or later.
2. On the display, open the app screen and then tap the SMART Remote app.
3. Tap Add a device.
4. Complete the connection wizard. Refer to this table for details about the required information.
Field Description
Account name Enter the domain name you created for your organization, for example“smarttechnologies.”
MDM Server address Enter https://smart.glbth.com
Name Enter a name for the device.
TIP
Choose a name that describes the type of device and its location. This willhelp you identify it in the devices list.

Enrolling other devicesTo enroll a Windows, Chrome OS, Android, or iOS device, you need to install a remote management
connection agent on the device. Windows, Chrome OS, and Android devices connect to SMART Remote
Management using the same procedure, while iOS devices follow a slightly different process.
To connect Windows, Chrome OS, and Android devices
1. On the device, open an internet browser and visit radix-int.com/radix-viso-mdm-download-links.
2. Download and install the Viso MDM agent for your device.
3. Run the Viso MDM agent connection wizard.

4. Enter the required information in the Connection info page. Refer to this table about the required
information:

Account name Enter the domain name you created for your organization, for example“smarttechnologies.”
MDM Server address Enter https://smart.glbth.com
Name Enter a name for the device.

5. Click Next.

To connect iOS devices
1. Click the Devices page.
2. Click Enroll from the menu.
The Enroll window appears.
3. Click Apple.
4. Click Download.
5. Follow the instructions in the Enroll window to install the Viso agent connection wizard on the iOS
device.
6. Run the Viso agent connection wizard on the iOS device.
7. Complete the Connection info page, and then click Next. Refer to this table about the required
information.
Field Description

SMART Remote Management features a number of built-in basic command structures that allow you to
quickly send commands to enrolled devices, such as:
l Sending messages to devices
l Get device location
l Locking the device and setting alerts
l Restarting and shutting down the device
l Managing the device
To use these, open the device’s dashboard by selecting it from the Devices page in SMART Remote
Management.
Sending messages to devices
Click Send Message to send a text-only message to the device.

To send a text-only message
1. Click Devices .
2. Use the check boxes to select devices to which you want to send a message.
3. Click Actions , and then select Send Message.
The Send Message window appears.
4. Type the message title and body text in the Message Title and Message Body boxes.
5. Click CONFIRM.
TIP
Advanced messages that include text, an image, and audio are available for Android devices and
SMART Board displays with iQ (see
support.smarttech.com/docs/redirect/?product=remotemanagement&context=advanced-message).
Get the device’s location
Click Location to see the device’s current location.
Before the device’s location can be detected, the network must be set up according to the procedure shown
in page 12.

Locking commands
If the device is lost or stolen, you can use the Lock menu’s features to secure it, provided the device still has
wireless connectivity.
The Lock features include the ability to:
l Lock or unlock the device
l Start an alarm (siren)
l Wipe the device
You can also retrieve the device’s password if its forgotten by clicking GET PASSWORD.
WARNING
The alarm (siren) causes devices’ screens to flash at 7 Hz. If any users of devices are sensitive to rapidly
flashing screens, consider sending messages to devices instead.
NOTE
Lock and unlock features are not available for SMART Board interactive displays with iQ.

Restart, shutdown, and other power commandsControl the device’s power options, such as restarting and shutting down.
NOTE
Wake on LAN is not currently supported for SMART Board interactive displays.
Manage the deviceManage options for the device.
Refer to the following table to learn about each option.
Option Description
REMOVE Select to remove the device from SMART Remote Management. The device’sbehavior will be unaffected, but you will no longer be able to manage it inSMART Remote Management.
TAGS Select to edit the tags for the device.

Option Description
CHANGE AGENTPASSWORD
Select to change the password on the device. This password is used to lockdown only the SMART Remote Management settings on the device.
RESET AUTH TOKEN Select to generate a new authentication token for the device. This is useful ifyou’ve performed a factory reset on the device and need to reconnect it toSMART Remote Management.
REMOVE ACCOUNT Select to remove all user accounts from the device.
Advanced commands and other device managementfeatures in SMART Remote ManagementSMART Remote Management also lets you create remote execution commands, manage device settings
(such as allowlists and blocklists), add policies, create workflows to trigger multiple sequential commands,
install software or apps on devices, and much more.

Install software on SMART Board interactive displays with iQ and on a computer or device that's connected
to SMART Remote Management (see Enrolling a SMART Board interactive display on page 18). You can
install software in the following ways:
l From the Google Play™ store
l Using a URL to an online file
l Uploading a file saved on your computer
Installing software on connected devicesTo install software on enrolled computers, complete these steps:
1. Create an installation package in the SMART Remote Management repository.
2. Deploy the installation package to devices.
3. Create an activation command (if required).
Creating packages for softwareTwo methods are available for creating a package for software:
l Using a link to an online file
l Uploading a file saved on your computer

To create a package for an online file
1. Click Repositories , and then select Packages.
The Packages window appears.
2. Click ADD NEW.
3. Select File from Url from the Select Upload Method drop-down list.
4. Type the file’s URL in the File Url box.
5. Type a name and description in the Package Name and Package Description boxes.
6. Click CONFIRM.
The package is added to the repository.
To create a package for a file saved on your computer
1. Click Repositories , and then select Packages.
The Packages window appears.
2. Click ADD NEW.
3. Select Upload File from the Select Upload Method drop-down list.
4. Click SELECT FILE.
5. Browse to and select the file, and then click Open.
The file uploads and the Package Name box updates to include the file name.
6. Type a description in the Package Description box.
7. Click CONFIRM to add the package to the repository.
Deploying installation packages to devicesAfter you create the package for the software, deploy it to a single computer or multiple computers.
To deploy an installation package to a single device
1. Click Devices .
2. Click the hardware ID for a display.
The display’s dashboard window appears.

Creating an activation commandIf the software requires activation and supports centralized activation, you can create a command in
SMART Remote Management to activate it on the device.
IMPORTANT
For SMART Notebook software, provisioning emails is the recommended method for activating. To learn
more about this and the differences between activation methods, see Determining the best activation
method.
Installing apps on connected devicesTo install an app on a connected device, first create an installation package for it and then deploy the
package to devices.
CAUTION
On SMART Board interactive displays with iQ, do not install apps that require Google Play Services to
function, as they will damage the display’s software. Google’s policies do not permit apps that require
Google Play Services to be used on interactive display products.
Important guidance for installing appsReview the following important guidance before you install apps using SMART Remote Management:
l Install apps only from a source that you trust.
l Take care when installing apps that change Wi-Fi and Ethernet settings, VPNs, and alarms.

l Review required permissions for apps in the Google Play store before installing them. Visit the Android
developer site (developer.android.com/guide/topics/permissions/overview#perm-groups) for app
permission guidelines.
l Test apps before installing them.
l Some apps depend on other apps and won’t run unless other packages are deployed first.
Before you install an app on a SMART Board interactive display with iQ, be aware of the following:
l Review the list of unsupported apps (see Appendix A: Unsupported apps on page 34).
l The AM30 iQ appliance can run apps that support Android 4.4.
l The AM40 and AM50 iQ appliances can run apps that support Android 7.1.
l The SMART Board MX (V2), 6000S, 7000R, and 7000-V2 interactive displays can run apps that support
Android 8.
Creating packages for an Android app on the Google Play storeBefore you can deploy apps or software to connected Android devices (including SMART Board interactive
displays with iQ), you must create the packages for them in SMART Remote Management.
To create a package for a Google Play store app
1. Open a web browser and visit play.google.com/store/apps.
2. Search or browse for the app you’d like to use.
CAUTION
On SMART Board interactive displays with iQ, do not install apps that require Google Play Services,
as they will damage the display’s software. Google’s policies do not permit apps that require Google
Play Services to be used on interactive display products.
3. Copy the webpage’s URL from the address bar.
EXAMPLE
The URL to the WPS Office app is
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cn.wps.moffice_eng.
4. Sign in to your SMART Remote Management account.
5. Click Repositories , and then select Packages.

6. Click ADD NEW.
A second Packages window appears.
7. Select Package from Play Store from the Select Upload Method drop-down list.
8. If you’re installing an app for a SMART Board display with iQ, select Default ‘arm’ device if it’s not
already selected.
NOTE
If the installation is not successful, select Default ‘arm’ Android 5.0 device, and then try to install
again.
9. Type a name and description in the Package Name and Package Description boxes.
10. Click CONFIRM.
The download package is added to the repository.
Deploying installation packages to devicesAfter you create the package for the app, deploy it to a single device or multiple devices.
To deploy an installation package to a single device
1. Click Devices .
2. Click the hardware ID for a display.
The display’s dashboard window appears.
3. Click Repositories actions, and then click Install packages.
The Packages window appears.
4. Select a package from the list, and then click APPLY.
To deploy an installation package to multiple devices

Appendix A: Unsupported apps
Some apps can cause issues with SMART Board interactive displays with iQ and are not supported:
Unsupported apps Issues
Launchers Launcher apps can interfere with the home screen app and cause the Input,Screen Share, and SMART Notebook Player apps to stop working.
Web browsers Third-party web browsers allow users to download APKs and other files fromthe internet. Pages that are visited are not added to the home screen recentlist.
File managers File managers can allow access to hidden system files and settings.
Keyboards Third-party keyboards can cause a wide variety of issues with the iQexperience.
Setup wizards, systemsetting tuners, and appsthat allow the system tobe rooted
These apps grant access to the operating system and can cause a wide varietyof issues.
Online music players Online music players can operate in the background. The interface is hiddenand you can't stop unintended music from playing.
Apps requiring GooglePlay Services
Google’s policies do not permit Google Play Services to be used on interactivedisplay products. Apps requiring Google Play Services will not run on SMARTBoard interactive displays with iQ and attempts to do so could cause problems.
Apps with GPS Hardware limitations prevent apps from working.
Apps with NFC Hardware limitations prevent apps from working.
Apps with Bluetooth LE(low energy)
SMART Board displays with iQ use Bluetooth LE, and apps that requireBluetooth LE will cause issues.
Portrait orientation Apps that require portrait orientation don't fit the landscape screen. Install onlyapps that allow landscape orientation.
