This is an image of the timecard that you will have filled out by the end of each workday. Each box with a number printed in it, corresponds with the amount of the hour you will be paid for. For example, setting up the cocoa hut should not take any longer than 30 minutes, therefore the box has a “0.5” (or, half of an hour). Place a check mark or circle the specific boxes corresponding to the duties you completed that day. Note that there are two rows that you hand-write your own times in. This is to be used when you are either assisting or teaching a class. For example, if a supervisor asks you to assist a class starting at 10:15, and the class ends at noon, you will write “10:15/12:00” in the first box because it was for the morning lesson.

By the end of each day, total up the amount of hours you spent on setup and take down and write that number in the box next to “Set-up Hours”. Next, total up the hours you spent teaching or assisting and write that amount in the box next to “Assist/Teach Hours”. Finally, add those two boxes together, and you have your total hours worked for that day.

Setup/Takedown (Mountain Xplorers, Dish, Magic Carpet, Enchanted Forest)

SET-Up should happen immediately after the morning meeting so it can be completed before the KK shuttle and MX line-up. You will need from lockeroom:

· Drill with fresh battery

· Bag of brushes (might be in Yurt)

· Bag of Stubbies (might be in Yurt)

· Box of vests

IN ORDER: (There will usual be 2 of you, or you and a Sup, assigned to all these tasks, don’t worry!)

1. MX set-up, ( blue Bin, flags and rope in Yurt)

1. Set out “MEET – HERE” sign at top of Magic Carpet

2. Vests to Snowsports School Meeting

3. Dish setup

4. Animals and Flowers on Magic Carpet Run

5. “Magic Wands” out by top of Magic Carpet

6. Brushes and cones on magic carpet

7. Stubbies on the enchanted forest run. This is to be set up longer and wider than the course on the magic carpet. (Be sure to pick up the stubbies during take down at the end of the day)

8. Make sure the drill gets put back in the Yurt ASAP!

9. AT END OF DAY, IN THE REVERSE ORDER – TUCK EVERYTHING BACK INTO BED FOR THE NIGHT!

Note on your timecard that you will be paid 30 minutes for setup, and 30 minutes for takedown. With two people, it is easy to accomplish these duties within this timeframe once you become used to the procedure.

Yurt

The Yurt is an area where JR’s and instructors may take their classes for a brief break and have a small cup of hot cocoa. It is NOT for general Public. When you are making cocoa for children YOU make it, not the child! Make only ½ cup and be sure to add cold water! Dump excess cocoa into the waste bucket. Not into the trash or in the snow outside. If you are assigned this duty, you should try to leave the locker room as soon as possible after the morning meeting.

BEGGINNING OF DAY:

· Load up full water jug

· clean cocoa waste bucket into a sled, or carry

· Take to the Yurt - make sure:

Counter top is wiped off and clean

hot water tank is FULL

cold water jug is FULL (you may need to take an extra trip for this)

cocoa container is FULL, Be careful opening the bags of cocoa they often blow up if you try to pull them open, use scissors in bin!

there are 2 sleeves of hot cups

one sleeve of cold cups,

stir straws

tissues or napkins are on the counter

ON COLD DAYS YOU WILL NEED TO RESTOCK THE COCOA HUT THROUGHOUT THE DAY!

END OF DAY:

· Stock the lock box:

2 bags of cocoa

2 sleeves of hot cups, 2 sleeves of cold cups

· Smash down or take out trash if full

· Refill Hot water tank

· Put cocoa container in lock box

· Wipe off and clean counters

· Sweep or mop if necessary! (ask a Supervisor for assistance on this)

· Bring waste bucket back to locker room , pour contents into sink (make sure stir straws don’t go down the drain!) Rinse until clean.

· Alert a Supervisor if you suspect public or instructors are leaving messes or “abusing” the space

If you think you have nothing to do, just look around and see if anyone else needs to be assisted. If you are not assigned to assisting a lesson, check in with a supervisor before you leave.

ASSISTING WITH LESSONS!

Undoubtedly this is the most fun part of your job! You will be shuttling kids that show up late to classes or need to be moved to a different class for various reasons. You will often be paired with a coach when classes are challenging or bigger in size. You will get direction from the coach on what their needs are and help as instructed. Sometimes a coach or supervisor may ask you to take a child to the bathroom or back to Kinder Kamp for various reasons. When you take kids to the bathroom you will need to help them partially undress and redress them when they are finished. Instructors are NOT to leave you with a child to teach on your own!

You will primarily be working with children ages 4-6. It is important that you be directive, yet responsible and kind! They are in your care. Often you will be working with these young children on the Magic Carpet while under the Supervision of a Supervisor or Senior Instructor. You may not take the student down musical chairs. Please keep in communication with the individual that is Supervising as to the progress of the child(ren) you are working with. Below are the levels you will be working with most of the time. Get familiar and have fun!

Kids Ski Lessons & Kinder Kamp Skier Levels

1st TimeNever been skiing

1st Time Frogs Lesson Focus:

Learning about equipment

Getting up after a fall

Balancing while sliding

Sliding into a wedge and across the hill

Lifts - Magic carpet surface lift

Stepping, climbing, sliding.

Terrain: Flat

Outcome: Basic balance, awareness of equipment, some mobility, understanding of physical requirements for controlling speed.

Emphasis: Ankles “relatively” flexed (age specific), vision up, foot turning, foot to foot balance.

Before you go on: 1. Can they demonstrate flexing into the boot? 2. Can they maintain lateral balance while stepping to either side? 3. Can they turn/brush the skis across the snow while maintaining a balanced stance?

Possible activities: Start with skis off, rock fore/aft, move feet in arc in the snow, turn toes in/out, side-step up/down hill. Put on one ski, lift it and twist, touch the tip/tail, scooter straight/ figure 8, scooter and glide as long as possible. Repeat with ski on other foot. Put on both skis, repeat stepping movements, daisy turns, walk in figure 8’s, push and glide with poles, paddle turns. Brush one ski and then the other into a wedge, brush both into a wedge with a slight hop/unweighting move. Pull them around on the flats and have them wedge. Gently push / pull the skis under their body.

Learn to Turn Learning to turn both directions to a stop.

Learn to turn Trolls

Lesson Focus:

Sliding downhill without assistance

Turning both directions to a stop

Linking turns

Getting up after a fall (unassisted)

Lifts - Magic Carpet and Musical Chairs lift

2.Heading down the hill

Terrain: Gentle slope by the SunKid.

Outcome: Control speed and direction, stop at will (by turning across the hill!).

Emphasis: Ankle flex/stance, turning feet/legs under a stable upper body, tipping ski enough so it creates friction and control.

Before you go on: 1. Do they maintain contact with the front of the boot while turning? 2. Do the turning movements start from the lower body? 3. Are they keeping slightly more weight toward the outside ski than the inside?

Possible activities: Garlands, thousand steps, follow my leader.

Start by going across the hill and turning further out of the fall line to stop. After stopping, step the skis around to head the other direction. Gradually increase the steepness of the traverse. Rather than coming to a complete stop, direct the skis toward the fall line to move into the next turn. Always stop by turning across the hill.
