• The international tourism has a very important role in the globalization process, it becomes a balancing mechanism of the welfare among rich and poor regions, according to the flow of tourists driving them to different destinations

• Europe – as an unique destination - plays an important role in the international tourism being the no. 1 destination in the world`

• Europe has a huge potential both as natural resources for practice all types of tourism amongst which the medical tourism holds a significant share as well as expertise in using them in the treatment of most affections.

• Historical vestiges were found in different areas of Europe proving the benefit of using thermal water as natural healing factor for recovery and treatment of rheumatism and degenerative illness.

FOREWORD

• Romania has documented spa establishments for healing with thermal and mineral waters or with mud for more than 2000 years in some actual spa-resorts as Baile Herculane, Baile Felix, Germisara, etc.

• The medical tourism developed widely, the demand for health services is growing, especially in the last years; the demand comes both from the ageing groups as well as from the younger as a consequence of the increased dedication for health care and for the illness prevention activities.

• In this context, developing new spa treatment facilities especially in close proximity of dense populated areas with easy access from airport and highway may become a successful business .
