Snapshot Week 7 Term 4
29 November 2019
Pupil Free Day Friday 6 December
Please be reminded of our Pupil Free Day next week. Rose Park Primary School staff will be
working collaboratively on this day to finalise our Programme of Inquiry for 2020. If your child
will need to attend OSHC, please contact Billy Graves on 0437 132 522, or email
[email protected] to ensure that bookings are confirmed.
Volunteer’s Morning Tea
We would like to invite parents, grandparents, and other volunteers to come along on
Monday 2 December, from 10.30—11.15 for morning tea. Our classrooms, and wider school
community, benefit greatly from the efforts of all our volunteers. Whether you offer time to
listen to students read, coach a sports team, or help out with our newly re-established
gardens, we’d love to see you, and say thank you for your time and skills.
End of Year Concert—Whole School Event Thursday 5 December
We are looking forward to the concert next Thursday evening. All students are expected to
attend, and classes have been working hard on their performances. Please see the flyer at
the end of this Snapshot, or your child’s class teacher for more details.
2020 Reception Transition
We welcomed our 2020 Reception students back this Friday from 9:15 – 11:45am. Transition
offers children the opportunity to develop confidence, independence, social skills, fine
motor coordination and listening skills while in their new school environment. The visits have
settled nerves and assisted children in positively anticipating their learning adventures in their
new school environment. We thank everyone who has been involved in this process.

Digital Technologies Update
Second Hand Chromebook Sale
On Monday, December (Week 9), we will be organising a second hand Chromebook sale for
parents of students in Year 7, and those leaving Rose Park Primary School who wish to sell their
Chromebooks. Currently we have 18 families who are looking to purchase a second hand
Chromebook, and 20 wishing to sell. Chromebooks that are sold will be collected by our IT
Department on the day, removed from the school's management system, and returned to
the new owners during the week.
While the school is not directly involved in the sale, we do recommend that devices for sale
meet the following criteria: charger cord, no missing keys, and an undamaged screen.
Departing Students with Chromebooks
Students leaving Rose Park PS at the end of 2019, will need to have their Chromebooks
removed from the school management system during the final week of school. Students will
take their Chromebook to the IT Department on Wednesday 11th December, and collect
them again on Friday 13th December. The returned Chromebooks will then be ready to be
used with a generic Gmail account, with all school and Department for Education protocols
removed. Student Rose Park email accounts (@roseparkps.com.au) will also be deleted at
the end of the school year. Student files can be downloaded and saved during Week
9. Further details will be sent out via Edsmart next week, however it will require students
transferring files to a usb/ portable hard drive or another Google Drive.
STEM Update
Coding Club
Discussions are currently underway for a Coding Club to be based at Rose Park PS in 2020 as
an after school and/ or holiday program. Further information will be sent out as we are closer
to finalising the details.
Robotics
Within the theme 'Digital Technologies are shaping our Future', a number of Year 6 students
were designing and creating a range of functioning robotic hands. Using the 'Engineering
Design Process Model', students explored the need for the prosthetics, with consideration
given to the materials used, including the sustainability of resources, and a range of possible
designs were presented. A number of prototypes were
created and tested, and after some discussion and
evaluation, the final products were created.

Staff Appreciation Morning Tea
On Wednesday, volunteers from the Gartrell Memorial Church
very kindly provided morning tea for staff at Rose Park Primary
School. We also thank the Burnside Interchurch Council for
putting on a Christmas Play on
Monday in which approximately 250
students attended.
Parents & Friends Committee
The Parents & Friends Committee have been a valuable support to Rose Park Primary School;
most recently by holding the Sports Day Sausage Sizzle, and raising $1600.00 to be donated to
the Salvation Army Disaster Relief Fund. Our P&F representatives contribute throughout the
year at events such as Cake Stalls, Second Hand Uniform Sales, and Reception Transition visits.
Bogan Bingo was the main event for 2019, and a fabulous time was had by all!
If you are interested in becoming a member of the Parents & Friends Committee, please
