Fall Rally

I had an amazing time at Fall Rally and I’m so glad I got to experience it AGAIN. The bus ride was fun mind the awkward sleeping positions but the real fun happened as soon as we stepped on Six Flags property. Being surrounded my thousands of key clubbers and hearing all the division cheers and the “unga ungas” & “abooga aboogas” was such a great feeling and reminded me one of the reasons why I’m in key club for experi-ences like this. The Rally itself was great and you could tell all the other divisions worked hard on their cheers, plus D28W won and it was great to be able to win that for Johansen. After the rally we got to go around the park riding rides and gif shop-ping and importantly, eating funnel cake! You couldn’t walk a few steps without getting called out by another division walk-ing past you and it was all definitely worth the weird stares and lost voices. All in all I had a fantastic time at fall rally and can’t wait to go (and win again) next year!

As Many of you may already know, Fall Rally south was held Saturday, the 10th of November. Fall Rally brought all of the CNH keyclubbers together as one- a giant family. Many keyclubbers made tons of new friends and mingled with peers from all over California, Nevada and Hawaii! And be proud of your keyclub, hawks, because District 28 West won the spirit stick! At the spirit rally, we had auction of our be-loved LTGs and showed off our loud and proud spirit with pom poms. Our club did wonderful and really showed every-one how it’s done! After the spirit rally, CNH keyclubbers had a fantastic day riding rides, socializing, and meeting char-acters like bugs bunny. Keyclub was so spirited that even regular passerbys called us out with our “How Do You Feel?” cheer! Everyone was in a good mood and the happiness com-ing from Fall Rally is really undescribable. The park was filled with cheer and jaws one of the most amazing experiences of Keyclub (so far). Even the bus ride there and back was fun! If you missed Fall Rally this year though, don’t worry. Fall Rally is an annual event and gets better every year. Also, don’t miss your chance to go to this year’s DCON in Anaheim, Califor-nia!

Congrats Sea Monkeys! We deserved it!

Fall Rally Every Fall Rally South that I have attended has been really great, but I don't think any of the past years could beat the Fall Rally South 2012. Attending Fall Rally was a fun part of the beginning of the year that was the start to more even more amazing events to come. Fall Rally has been held at Six Flags Magic Mountain for a long time now. Each year I went, I was ready to cheer my heart out to try and win the spirit stick along with the rest of Division 28 West. We always came ready to win with our spirt gear ready, for the most part, and our throats ready to be torn apart with the amount of yelling and cheering we would be doing. We always made it close to becoming the winners and repre-senting Vegas by winning the spirit stick. Sadly we never won, that was until this year! Fall Rally this year was truly perfect. I slept a bit on the bus with only a few embarrassing sleeping pictures being taken of me. Those things were bearable since they lead up to the greatest Fall Rally South of all time. We went into the first spirit session almost late, but having practiced our cheers on the for weeks and on the buses for last minute prep, we were ready to take on any division We were loud and energetic and showed our true sea monkey spirit. We raised over $1000 in funds for the Pediatric Trauma Program at the event itself which was a great way to start the session. After we were finally able

to do our once retired cheer that we had never gotten to do before at Fall Rallys I attended, that is Rewind. We did it almost flawlessly and we were the envy of all the divisons with our spirit. When it came to round two of the spirit competition we truly had some tough competition but we beat them out with our sea monkey stomp. When it was announced that we won I was the happiest I could be. First our club won RTC out of division and then our division won against many other very spirited divisions, it just made this key club year closer to being completely perfect. One of the best parts of the day was that it didn't rain for the first time since I've gone. I was able to pick up four division shirts and two division lanyards as souvenirs just as icing on the cake. It was an amazing experience and the absolutely best Fall Ral-ly to be my last.

This year’s Fall Rally has to be the best. My first 3 years, they were amazing of course! But my biggest goal was to win the spirit stick. Screaming my lungs out, going crazy, and making sure our division was doing our best! I loved doing the cheers oh so much! When Alyssa Yocom was announcing the winner, my heart was racing. When she said “Division 28…. WEST” I was frozen for 2 seconds, and after I jumped like crazy. My FOURTH and FINAL year, WE WON! I was so proud and happy, we’ve worked so hard. Everyone congratulating us and giving hugs to my fellow seamonkeys! All the divisions in the rally did amazing of course. Knowing we won, and the amount of money we raised to donate to PTP was a great feeling. After that, we ran all over the park, ride rides, hung out with old friends, new friends, and also being asked how we felt, and of course we responded “I FEEL GOOD, OH I FEEL SO GOOD! UHHHHH! I FEEL FINE, ALL OF THE TIME! UNGA, UNGA, UNGA , UNGA. UNGA!” I felt proud every time. I am proud to be in the CNH district. I am proud I’m in Region 5. I am proud to be in D28West. I am proud to be a Key Clubber. ♥

Fall Rally South. This was the event that made a lot of memories, met a lot of new people, and made new goals to meet in the future. The fact that all the key clubbers in California, Nevada, and Hawaii join together all in one destination to cheer, show spirit, and have fun just amazes me. Fall Rally was set at Six Flags Magic Mountain, mean-ing there were rides! Other than rides, there was a place called the Golden Bear Theater. Various Divisions would rally up and get educated, inspired, and competitive. The divisions who were most spirited and loud would win the spirit stick. The prize went to Division 28 West, 25 West, and 4 North. After a session, you get to have fun doing rides, calling out clubs, and most of all asking people how they feel! In the end of the day we all went back home with one of the greatest moments a key clubber could experience.

On October 27, 2012 at the fashion show mall, many clubs including NWCTA’s Key club attended the walk at The Fashion Show Mall. It was definitely one of the best times volunteering with my club that i have ever experienced. As the thousands of walkers walked throughout the mall we stood and cheered them on with every step. The look on their faces as we screamed and yelled was amazing, especially those who wore colors signifying they lost someone from Alzheimer's or know somebody with the Disease. It was a

very nice feeling to see how happy they were to see the support pro-vided by our club and the joy emitted from them. It was also a plus because after the event due to the fact it took place in the fashion show mall, we should continue to have fun. Overall this was one of my favorite events that i have participated in with NWCTA’s key club and i can’t wait till next year so i can attend it again!

The alzheimers walk was something special to me. I held

this walk dear to my heart and I was extremely loud and

excited for it to start. As you may know my grandpa has

alzheimers and I really encouraged all of you to come!

When I saw how many members from our club came I

almost cried because I was so happy!

I got a flower which I put my grandpas name on it it says

Nhai Phoumiphat on it. Seeing the survivors and people

who were taking care of someone or has lost someone who

has had alzheimers or just supporting alzheimers made me

so happy. I want to thank every single person who went to

the walk because it made me extremely happy.

Light the night walk Light the Night walk took place this year on November 3rd and it was a truly great night. I have attended Light the Night walk for three years now and every year has been a differ-ent experience. My first light the night I wasn't sure what to expect all I knew was that our club would be wearing green in honor of a friend who had passed from a form of cancer. It was very cold and I wasn't sure whether I wanted to stay out there the whole time, but I stayed and it was worth it. The best part about Light the Night would definitely have to be the lights in the balloons. The sight that it creates is truly magnificent and represented all those who have fought, are fighting or just those wishing to support the cause. The contrast the lights have against the night sky is truly just amazing and it is the one part I looked forward to seeing every year. It is sad to say that I attended my last one, but it was really a great night to remember. When I had gone to light the night the two years before, our club supported the cause by walking with everyone else which was great to do. This

year we changed it up and volunteered to cheer the walkers on in order to support the cause. It was a lot of fun doing this, getting the walk-ers pumped and keeping their energy levels up through out the walk. I am glad I was able to experience both the walking and the volun-teering side of light the night walk. I really hope that our club keeps the tradition of going to this event every year, so that our members will always get to experience it.

Dia de los Muretos Haunted Harvest

Haunted Harvest Haunted Harvest was spectacular! Key clubbers got to be a huge halp to the workers at Springs Preserve while being playful and having all sorts of fun with families! There was lots of candy, a haunted house, a petting zoo, all kinds of games and activities, and spookiness galore! Many keyclubbers got to experience Haunted Harvest over and over again for there was volunteering spots in all of october. Haunted harvest was defi-nitely the highlight of october. Springs Preserve hosts this event yearly and was very pleased with NWCTA Key Club, so be sure to check it out next year! My favorite part was seeing all of the crazy and kooky hallow-een costumes! What was your favorite part?

Dia de los Muertos Participating at the Dia de los Muertos event at Springs Preserve was a rewarding experience. The people who set up their altars to honor and celebrate their loved ones who have passed had a story to tell, some sto-ries a little more heartwarming or heartbreaking than others, but none-theless, basically everyone had something to say. It was lovely to hear sto-ries of the person who was being commemorated because it showed how much joy they brought to the people who dedicated an altar to them. While working, there were 4 of us who were in charge of stamping peo-ple’s cards as they passed the 3 alters we were manning. There were 3 categories in which people could enter their altars in the competition: traditional, artistic, and non-profit. The 3 altars we were in charge of had 2 traditional altars and one artistic altar. The traditional altars consist of putting the lost one’s favorite foods and things, candles, bread, and also their pictures, to celebrate who they were when they were alive. The artis-tic altars consist of creating artistic pieces symbolizing the loved one’s person and character, along with creating art of things they loved, along with pictures. I really enjoyed this event because it is a celebration that is part of my culture and I had never actually participated in an actual event such as this, but watching everyone celebrate reminded me of how much I love my cultural background. I would definitely go to this event again.

Haunted Harvest This SPOOKTACULAR event was such a fun event to volun-teer at! Just like every year, I enjoy seeing young kids have fun playing the booth games, going through the haunted house, and eating as much candy as their tummy’s could handle. It’s always an enjoyable experience working with all the volun-teers, and seeing the kids, sometimes parents, dress up. Volun-teering at a booth, you don’t know what could happen. Every-thing was calm at first, but then, towards sundown, the speed starting to pick up. Parents become furious at times to what the prize their child gets or they complain about how long they’ve been waiting in line to play the game. Lines get really long and crowded, but there are random times when you have no line at all. My partner, Freddy Tayam, and I have to coop-erate thoroughly, especially since our adult volunteer became so stressed that she left us. Our booth got really hectic, but we managed to keep the parents and children satisfied with the game and prizes. We met students from UNLV that were volunteering for NHS, but only for the weekend. The whole place had a good vibe since it was a family oriented event. Overall, everyone enjoyed themselves: parents, kids, volun-teers, and even the workers. Every year, it’s a blessing to see every family smiling, enjoying themselves at the Haunted Har-vest Festival, and it’s all thanks to the volunteers.
