Ideology

Ideology is a set principles and

ideas that define your world,

and your place within it. This

is based on assumptions about

the Human Nature and Society, which provides an understanding

of the past, clarification of the present, and a vision for the future.

• A Nation would be an example of this because a Nation is made up of people who know where they belong.

Individualism

The Idea that someone is more important than a group, that their needs, beliefs, values, freedom,

and their rights are more important than those of a group of people.

• An example of this would be Rich, Snobbish people who think they are better than everyone else.

CollectivismCollectivism is where the common good and the goals of a group are more valued than that of an individual person.

• Religious groups value this above all else. They stand up for their values and beliefs, and they strive as a group to meet their goals.

Liberalism

Liberalism has faith in Human progress, and it favors decentralized power, both Economically and Politically. It is a set of ideologies all dedicated to the principle of Freedom and Dignity of the individual.

Liberalism has 3 main parts to it.

One is that we should be able to pick our leader. Second is we should be able to influence how we are led. And third, there should be a protection of our civil rights.

• Voting would be an example of this because we get to vote for who leads us.

Self-Interest

A person’s self Interest or Advantage.

• Things people like to do would be an example of Self-Interest because this is what they like to do. It’s what interests them.

Freedom: Political and EconomicPolitical: It is the absence of interference from the government to an individuals sovereignty by the use of force or aggression. It is being free of the Government.• Liberalism would be a form of Political Freedom because the government can’t interfere with a person’s decision of who they vote for.

Economic:It is the freedom to produce, trade and consume any goods and services acquired without the use of force, fraud or theft.• Free Market Economy because people do not have to be forced to sell or buy things. They can choose to buy and sell what they want to.

Rule of Law

It is the Key Principle in Liberal Democracies that state that every individual person is equal before the law, and all citizens are subject to the law.

No one is Immune to the law.

• Citizens of a Canada would be an example of this, because no one is above or under the law.

Private Property

Private Property is something that is owned by an individual.

• Land, Homes, Vehicles, and other forms of physical possessions.

Collective Responsibility

This is where a group, or a “collective” is held responsible for the actions of an individual that is part of that group.

• Blaming the Jewish people for the Death of Jesus, or the Nazis killing all the Jews in the Holocaust because Hitler thought them to be evil people trying to destroy Germany.

Collective InterestThis is a set of interests that a group or “collective” have in common. The principle of collective interest states that while an individual may have different interests than the group, these are better addressed by making them a common set of interests that the group can address together.

• For example, the Church in the US that was going to burn the Muslim bible. All of them believed that Evil came from that bible so they thought it should be destroyed.

Cooperation

Is where people work together to meet the same end. This is a principle emphasized by collective ideologies.

Economic Equality

Belief to common collectivist ideologies which can have different meanings depending on the ideology, or depending on the person.

Governments may try to advance economic equality through tax policies and also by ensuring that everyone will earn equal wages for work of similar value

Collective NormsThis is something that we believe would be normal because it is represented and bought into every day of our lives.

• Going to school or getting a job would be a Collective Norm for us because this is what we do every day of our lives. We work or go to school.

Public PropertyThis is anything that is not privately/individually owned by a person. This is owned by the Government, or the state or the community, and is managed according to the best interests of the community.

• An example would be a Public Park because it is not owned by an Individual person. This would be owned by the City or Town.

BeliefA belief is something that someone believes in and feels that it is important.

• For Example, some people have the Belief that God is not real, and then there are those who do believe that God is real.

ValueA Value is an belief accepted by some individual or group, or something that means a lot to someone.

• For example, a persons family and friends could be a value, or some possession that they own.

Individual Identity

Individual Identity is something that defines you by your religion, race, values, beliefs, your personality, likes and dislikes, etc.

Collective IdentityCollective Identity is an identity that is shared by others with similar beliefs, values, race etc.

• For example, could be a citizen of a country, or a member of a Church/group etc.
