With the holiday season quickly approaching, marked by festive tunes and carefully knitted sweaters, it might be challenging to feelprepared for what lies ahead.

As we compiled this year’s Holiday Issue, we’re reminded that while eggnog and presents are great, it’s the spirit of giving thatmakes this season fun.

Getting caught up in the holiday festivities, The Cystic Fibrosis Gold Coast Guild hosted its annual “Bountiful Boutique,” as seenthrough images by Kevin Lane on page 10. Featured on page 11, The 1000+ Club to Benefit Cancer Inc. hosted their annual “HolidayMembership Luncheon” and awarded six grants to local nonprofits.

Continuing with the holiday spirit, the Original Fort Lauderdale Gay Men’s Chorus presented its “Hooray for the Holidays” concertand the “Holiday Fantasy of Lights” transformed Tradewinds Park into a winter wonderland on page 12. And both Pinion Inc. and PAWScelebrated the upcoming season with themed events, captured through submitted photos on page 13.

Profiling Broward-based philanthropists on page 28, we get a peek into the values of these selfless individuals and what inspiresthem to give back.

And you can join in on the spirit of giving by attending local holiday events presented in our calendar and featured stories. Anotherway to give back while shopping this season is to pick up toys for underprivileged children in Broward; page 25 features a listing of localtoy drives.

And for those of you who are making that donation list (and checking it twice), our main story on pages 38-39 features Sun SentinelChildren’s Fund charities in need of a few essentials so you can give back while giving this holiday season.

Because of your selfless acts, we’re reminded daily that all we want for the holidays is for everyone to feel the love and joy thatmakes this time of year so special (also, carb-free cookies wouldn’t hurt).

When this issue went to press, we were freshly full of gratitude, appreciating what’s really important in life. This is why we’d like totake a moment to thank you - our readers - for being loyal followers and for giving so much back to the community we call home. Oneof the best parts of our job here at Society Scene is the daily reminder of our community’s generosity; and at the end of the day, there’snothing else that could top our list.

Leslie, You gave me hope when no one else did! I remember walkinginto your clinic, bent over and screaming with pain, because theepidural injection I had received from my physician had only given metemporary relief. I tried so many different pain medications with noresults. In 2013 my spine was fused at 6 different levels which onlymade my pain worse. I ended up in the ER many times and the onlything that would help we was an IV of Dilaudid. But it got to a point, were the ER did not want to see me anymore, and physicians told methey could not help either. You were my last resort. Now after yourlaser treatments, I am able to walk without excruciating pain and Icannot believe the difference this has made in my life.

Thank you so much! Maureen L. Boca Raton

This season,All I want...

I fell in love with the Rebuilding Together Broward organization after participating in myvery first National Rebuilding Together Day.

The greatest gift one can give is inspiration.

When I think of the holidays I think of all the shopping, cooking, and decorating myfiancee does to make our holidays so special.

I set the holiday mood with listening to certain holiday albums like She & Him.

My favorite thing about the holiday season in South Florida is cooler weather!

This holiday season, all I want is to spend time with friends and family.

The cause I care most about is Rebuilding Together Broward. It warms my heartbecause it provides a sense of safety & security to those in need, which many of us takefor granted.

I fell in love with all of the arts organizations in Broward County when I helpedfound Funding Arts Broward (FAB!) in 2003.

The greatest gift one can give is love or a donation to a special charity.

When I think of the holidays I think of snow, family and skiing!

I set the holiday mood with a run down Gold Dust at Beaver Creek inColorado.

My favorite things about the holiday season in South Florida are friendsand family and pets.

This holiday season, all I want is to know that people care about each other;kindness.

The cause I care most about is the arts. It warms my heart because the artsspeak to all of us and makes us more human.

I fell in love with the Sonrise Mission when I went visited their facility last year to give them a gift cardwhich was part of my Life-Work Leadership class.

The greatest gift one can give is to offer your time and resources for enhancements to ourcommunity.

When I think of the holidays I think of getting together with family to enjoy and celebrate what wehave.

I set the holiday mood with the “Winterfest Boat Parade.”

My favorite thing about the holiday season in South Florida is Winterfest events.

This holiday season, all I want is for people give a little more, visit a nursing home, forgive a familymember, cook a meal for a neighbor in need.

The cause I care most about is Habitat for Humanity. It warms my heart because families get tohelp build a home for themselves, then own it. KORNA

I fell in love with the Emerge Broward organization when I found a group of driven young professionals that I couldrelate to and also utilize my skills and resources to help the organization grow.

The greatest gift one can give is making others feel good about themselves.

When I think of the holidays I think of everyone coming together and enjoying each others company, doesn’tmatter what they believe in. Just being grateful for being alive.

I set the holiday mood with enjoying the company of good people. My family is halfway around the globe, so Imake my friends my family.

My favorite thing about the holiday season in South Florida is the near perfect weather. People pay to visithere, I’m fortunate enough to live in paradise.

This holiday season, all I want is to create more opportunities for myself. I want to quench my thirst forknowledge and understanding, and to grow and succeed.

The cause I care most about is helping others in need. It warms my heart because I try to be compassionatein a world where a lot of connection seems to be lost. If I can help make a difference in someone’s life, then all isright. Even if it’s just temporary.

I fell in love with Touch A Heart Foundation when Debbie Perlman and I both had the desire to enhance the lives ofless fortunate children in our community.

The greatest gift one can give is helping someone without expecting anything in return.

When I think of the holidays I think of spending quality time with family as well as paying it forward and helpingmake a brighter holiday for others.

I set the holiday mood with cinnamon candles from my Heart2HeartArt candle collection.

My favorite thing about the holiday season in South Florida is having this fabulous weather to enjoy with myhusband and daughters!

This holiday season, all I want is the blessing of good health for those I love and for myself.

The cause I care most about is helping children in need. It warms my heart because being able to provide aholiday gift and meal to kids who would otherwise not have one is actually as much of a gift to me as it is to them.

We’re making the lists and we’re checking them twice. The Sun Sentinel Children’s Fund (SSCF), a McCormick Foundation Fund, isworking with the community to ensure that this season will be nice. Through the annual Holiday Giving campaign, SSCF supportsorganizations that work with the growing number of children and families in Broward and Palm Beach counties who are struggling

to make ends meet, provide a safe and loving home, or are unable to support their children’s education. To fulfill its holiday wish, the campaignhopes to raise at least $250,000 which will be matched by 50% by the McCormick Foundation. For more information and to donate, call 1-800-519-2480 or visit www.sunsentinelchildrensfund.org/donate.

The Holiday Campaign is sponsored by longtime supporters JM Family Enterprises Inc., Children’s Services Council of Broward County, PublixSupermarkets and the Dennis and Lois Doyle Family Foundation. By the end of this year, thanks to the generosity of Sun Sentinel readers andsponsors, more than $500,000 will be awarded to nonprofit agencies providing a lifeline of support for those in need.

The following Broward nonprofits have received funding from SSCF, but a few remaining items would round out their holiday wish lists.
