Installing e-ScoresheetGo to the “Download” folder on your PC; “right click” on the setup file and “Run as

Administrator” this will give necessary elevation to the installation to ensureproper operation and function in Windows OS.

Installing e-Scoresheet & Adding LicenseOnce Installation is completed a license check box will appear. Please browse tothe location on your PC (or USB) where the XML file has been extracted/saved

from the .zip folder you received by email then click “Next”.

e-Scoresheet technical requirementsThe program e-Scoresheet runs on Windows based desktop or laptop.

The minimum requirements for a scoring sessions are:• Windows Operating System (Windows 7/8/10). This includes virtual PCs• Intel i5 (Gen 5 min.) processor (or equivalent) or higher, RAM 4 GB or higher;• Video Board 128MB with dual monitor (suggested);• Flash Drive 128MB or higher• Laser or Ink-jet printer• External Monitor (optional)• Wireless connection (optional)The flash drive is plugged-inthroughout the match isnecessary to back-up all the dataentered; in case of PC failures, itwill be easy to restore thescoring from the last pointscored.

Using an external monitor

The use of a second monitorcan be beneficial to allow the R2to quickly and easily review thescoresheet.

In order to facilitate this youwould just need to duplicate theScorer’s computer screen forthe R2.

This is not required, but canreduce the times you may haveto turn the laptop around to thereferees.

e-Scoresheet is a constantly evolving tool:it is essential to check for updates

Downloading and installing the most currentversions is not required and can be canceled. But,it is strongly recommended to connect the PC tothe internet or download the most recentinstallation to USB before the first match of a week

Teams and rosters

To use e-Scoresheet requires the use of rosters that must be created prior tobeginning the match. These rosters can be input and saved in advance, butyou cannot manage the match without the official rosters for both teams.

Scorers must print the roster verifications prior to the match and ask thecoaches for each team to verify the players and their numbers; also to identifyplayers that are not present or able to participate in the match. This will helpconfirm information and eliminate players on large rosters (think non-travelingand injured players) making the bench list only those players who couldpotentially enter the match.

The program is setup with an 8 second delay between “Assign Points.”This prevents accidental double clicking. If you make a mistake or arecatching up you may need to confirm points as seen above or if youaccidentally double click you can prevent a potential scoring error

•If you incorrectly record a substitution you can use manual changes to insert itat the proper score with the proper players involved.

•Use the drop down lists which will show the roster numbers and score of the setas it progressed.

Post-Match ManagementWhen using e-Scoresheet as the Official Scoresheet you must print thescoresheet and the Libero Control sheet for the referees to review and sign.

You can print the scoresheet directly to a printer if it is available to youthrough a network or a cable.

If a printer is not immediately available the scoresheet can be printed to PDFand transferred to a flashdrive (you should have one already for theautomated back-up). Then you can take that drive to a PC that is connectedto a printer (SID PC).

The signed copies of the scoresheet should be kept for the official recordadditional printouts can be handed to coaches for their records.

As mentioned above the scoresheet can be printed to PDF which allows yousave to a flashdrive and email at a later time.

Finally, “Save and Exit” the match to close the program. e-Scoresheet will notallow you to exit the match without saving.

Recommendations and Best Practices

The following slides are taken from the comments made by Terry Lawton, aveteran Scorer in Southern California who has scored numerous university andinternational matches over her career. She has seen the evolution of the gameand the roles of the Scorer and Assistant Scorer.

These recommendations will help new e-Scoresheet users understand not onlytheir role as a Scorer, but also how that role is modified when using the softwareto score a match in comparison to a manual scoresheet.


Recommendations and Best PracticesDigital Scoring Hints

The Assistant Scorer is a crucial part of the officiating team and acts as a spotter

They should write down the substitute numbers and feed them to the scorekeeper

Remember that if they are the paper back up scorekeeper, they may fall behind while they are helping youIt is possible to work alone but it is not recommended

Scorers need to know manual scorekeeping procedures in case of a computer shut down or other problem

Scorers should know the format of how the program is formatted: ie.

A pop up box appears for a libero exchange for the serving team first and then the receiving teamlibero exchanges occur before allowing for substitutions

You may have to deny the exchange first, if the substitution involves a player and libero If a captain is involved, it will pop up a box for managing the floor captain before allowing you to go on


Recommendations and Best PracticesScorekeepers must recognize quickly when they make an entry error and respond accordinglyin the manual change section.

Manual changes can be made only while the set is in progress, so sometimes you may not want to end theset until you make the corrections

The Assistant can monitor the time and help you get ready for the next set Remember to correct the end and start times Use the “undo function” BUT WRITE DOWN the actions that you remove as it is very difficult to

reconstruct the events of the set if you undo more than a few plays or actions

Team rosters can be downloaded from the conference office or sports information office

Rosters unless purged remain in the system, so check to make sure they are current. They can not bechanged once you add them to the match easily

New players can be added or removed to the team as you populate the match

Arrive early. Rosters may have to be entered manually and that can take as much as 30 minutes

Rosters can be printed for verification pre match and libero numbers obtained from the coach

Paper Lineup forms are still needed for the coaches.


Recommendations and Best PracticesEquipment needed for the match includes: a computer, printer and flash drive Bring extra flash drives for your personal use The match is official ONLY when the flash drive is in place The printer may be WiFi connected It is also possible that the printer is the one used by the statistic people Then save the scoresheet, libero control sheet and rosters as a PDF file on the flash drive and then

print the forms Print at least 2 copies of each Save a copy of each document on you own personal flash drive Remember that the computer may be one of the older hand me down models with any number of

issues (slowness, missing keys, etc.) Arrive early enough to check out the computer and equipment

***NOTE The program works only with Windows and best on a PC, but will work on a Mac chassiswhen running Windows in Bootcamp or a Virtual Machine

Make sure you understand how a PC works

Partially close the cover to protect it from stray balls before the match

Bring your own computer as a back up but check about liability issues if it is damaged during play

Recommendations and Best PracticesThe scorer actually has more control of the match with digital scoring.

Our heads are up and we can look around to monitor the bench area anticipating events as they arehappening

The Assistant Scorer and Scoreboard operator fulfill their duties with greater oversight from the primaryscorekeeper in a more efficient manner

Check more frequently with the Assistant Scorer regarding number of substitutes and time outs

Use the short cuts and set them up for your personal preference, for example:Left arrow for Team A pointRight arrow for Team B pointT for Team A timeoutO for Team B timeout

Enable the options as they help with managing information, especially: Captains leaving and returning to the court with an alternate captain provided by the coach pre match Confirm Box which takes additional seconds but prevents errors due to speed The “Suggest New Lineups” option may work for some scorekeepers but due diligence is required when

the coach makes changes. It works well when the starting Lineup is consistent


Recommendations and Best PracticesIt is possible to have many things going on at once, but the computer program is pre-formatted to a specificform and order of events, for example:

Libero exchanges on both side with new serving team first Additional or double substitutions on both sides Captain changes due to substitutions Points scored Time outs (which give you time to breathe)

All of this follows a step-by-step process and these steps can not be hurried and there are no shortcutsIn this example it might be is easy to forget to exchange the libero when you denied it at the beginning of thesequence (the importance of the Assistant Scorer)

Practice as much as you can on the program during an actual game situationTape the game of the week and score the match while watching

Remember that it all goes smoothly and seems easy until it doesn’t go smoothly and you are deeply introuble. Do not panic. Stop the R2 and figure out what went wrong and how you can fix it. Take notes andundo the action or make the manual changes. It is even more crucial to fix the error immediately.

On the paper scoresheet, it was possible to keep going and catch up. Digital scoring will not allow you theleisure of working at your own pace.
