Homecoming
Homecoming was on January 5th. We had
several of our alumni attend which included
almost all of our 2017 graduating class!
They enjoyed a BBQ meal on us and two
Varsity Basketball victories! There was
even a round of Knock-Out between all our
returning alumni and our alumni boys team
stats guy, Adam Mortenson, won the
competition. Two of our past headmasters,
Mr. Maurice Lopez and Mr. Joey Thames,
also attended this happy event.
"The Winter ball was really fun! Mr.
Canney was a great Dj and the food and
atmosphere were great. We had a really
good time!"

The Winter Ball
The Winter Ball was held on Saturday, January
20 and was thoroughly enjoyed by our 8th to
12th grade students. Before the dance the
students went out to eat downtown and then
enjoyed an evening with Headmaster Canney
playing the role of DJ. It was a fun night for all!

I attended New Covenant School from
Kindergarten through 5th grade, then returned
my Junior year after 5 years at another private
school. When I returned to New Covenant my
junior year I made the varsity basketball team
and I have enjoyed being part of a State
Championship team. I have learned a lot from
Coach Miller and it was incredible to have an
undefeated season. I am looking forward to
winning the State Championship again this
year.
I have great memories of my years at New
Covenant including: hiding in the slide on the
first day of K5 from Mrs. Andreasen,
performing “Albuquerque, He’s My Turkey”
in 2nd grade with Mrs. Wyse’s class, laughing
and joking around in Mr. Wilkes class,
working on the yearbook staff, and many
great year end “field days.”
The greatest part of New Covenant is the
little things that build lasting memories.
Every time I go to sign out, Mrs. Lopez
always smiles and tells me to have a good
day. Although small instances, they make
the New Covenant experience “lit.”
I am looking forward to graduating in May.
My plans are to attend Tri-County
Technical College in the fall for college
transfer classes and then pursue a business
degree at Clemson University. I’m thankful
for the teachers I have had during my time
at New Covenant to prepare me for my
future. Go Cavs!

Carrigan Hovey: Just being the fantastic “family” that we are as a team. We are a
sisterhood, not just a basketball team. It has
been such a blessing to me to have these girls
as my sisters, family, encouragers, best
friends, and supporters.
Molly Landis: beating Oakwood for the first time in Lady Cavs history. It was
special because it was very much a team
win; everyone did their part and stepped
up when they needed to. It was
monumental for the program because it
showed the team could compete on a 2A
level. I am so thankful to play for a
program that prioritizes Christ before
anything else.

Stuart Marshburn, and John Michael O’ Neal
Stuart Marshburn: Creating great chemistry which made us more than a team,
but a brotherhood.

This semester in preschool chapel we are
learning about the two greatest
commandments: Love God and Love
Others. These two commandments are
our foundation in the preschool for why
we do the things we do (i.e. love and
respect our teachers/peers, share our
toys, nice quiet lines in the hallway,
etc.). Love is so important and Jesus is
our perfect example of love. We pray
regularly that our students will not know
a day without Christ in their lives. Also,
we talk about the fact that we cannot
love God and love others without Christ
giving us a new heart. Once we have a
new heart we have the power of the Holy
Spirit in us to love God and love others.
On January 12, we had a very special guest
speaker come to chapel: Mrs. Deb Potter. She is a
local sheep farmer and more importantly the
grandma to one of our K3 students, Jane Potter.
Mrs. Potter brought her equipment and showed us
how she shears the sheep and uses the wool to
make yarn. It was all very interesting and the
students loved it! So neat to see how God
provides the wooly sheep to give us warm clothes
to wear. Mrs. Potter’s farm is called Merciful
Hearts Farm; she is on facebook, so look her up
and learn more about her farm. The pictures
below are from our visit with Mrs. Potter.
And [Jesus] said to him, “‘You shall love the
Lord your God with all your heart, and with all
your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the
great and foremost commandment. The
second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor
as yourself.’ Matthew 22:37-40

Financial Snapshot
Each year New Covenant School works
hard to stay within the confines of its
budget. The School Board and the
Headmaster do a good job of being
excellent stewards of the resources the
school has been blessed with. However, at
times our needs out pace our budget. Thus
we have created a Wish List to let people
who love NCS know how they can help.
How can you help? There are several
ways:
ONLINE: To support the school at any time
with a donation to our Scholarship Fund,
Christian Heritage Fund or Development
Fund, visit www.newcovschool.net/support-
ncs/ and click “GIVE NOW!”
BOXTOPS: Clip the box tops and turn
them in! The PTO will coordinate this effort
and send in our boxtops to earn the school
free money!
PUBLIX PARTNERS: Scan your school
partner card every time you check out at
Publix and our school will get a portion of
your purchase back in a quarterly check.
