Soil Moisture Stress Condition in Northern Karnataka as
on 7th May 2016
State-wide Soil Moisture Stress Conditions
State-wide assessment of soil moisture stress conditions as on as on 7th May 2016 is given in
fig-1 and table-1. It is observed that 88% of the Karnataka State is under moderate and severe
soil moisture stress conditions, 3% reduction as compared to 3rd
May 2016.

Soil Moisture Stress Conditions in Districts of Northern Karnataka
Eighty five percent area in Northern Karnataka experience moderate and severe soil moisture
stress conditions as on 7th May 2016, a decrease of 1% as compared to 3
rd May 2016. Among
Northern Karnataka districts (Table-2) Dharwad and Gadag has highest area, 99.9%, under
moderate and severe soil moisture stress conditions followed by Haveri (99.6), Koppal
(99.4%), Raichur (99.3%), Ballari (99.1%) and Sixty six out of 69 taluks suffered moderate
and severe soil moisture stress conditions (Fig-2 and Table-3).

Conclusion
In the districts of Northern Karnataka the area under moderate and severe soil
moisture stress as on 7th May 2016 was 85% spread in 63 taluks compared to 86%
spread in 61 taluks as on 3rd
May 2016.
