What is Solar Energy?

It is the energy that comes from the sun’s rays that reach the Earth.

This energy can be converted into other forms of energy, such as heat and electricity by the help of the solar panels. It’s also a renewable source of energy.

What is Renewable Energy?

Renewable energy is energy that is generated from natural processes that are continuously replenished. This energy cannot be exhausted and is constantly renewed.  

This includes sunlight, geothermal heat, wind, tides, water, and various forms of biomass. Solar Energy is the most successful, easy to use and common renewable energy.

Why is it important

Renewable energy is important because of the benefits it provides. The key benefits are:

Renewable energy technologies are clean sources of energy that have a much lower environmental impact than conventional energy technologies.

Renewable energy will not run out. Ever. Other sources of energy are finite and will some day be depleted.

Most renewable energy investments are spent on materials and workmanship to build and maintain the facilities, rather than on costly energy imports.

How is this energy harnessed

Solar Energy, as we said before, is obtained from the sun. But it has to be converted to electricity to be used.

Solar energy can be converted to electricity in two ways:

Photovoltaic (PV devices) or “solar cells” : They change sunlight directly into electricity.

Solar thermal/electric power plants : They generate electricity by concentrating solar energy to heat a fluid and produce steam that is used to power a generator.
