Sun and Stars

We live on Earth. Earth is a planet. At night you see many small points

of light in the sky – these are called stars. A star is many times

larger than the earth and is made up of a big ball of

hot glowing gasses.

Earth revolves around the Sun. The Sun is a star and gives us

light. During the day, the Sun is the biggest and brightest

object in the sky.

The Sun is larger than the Earth and is also a big ball of hot, glowing gasses. The

sun looks like the biggest and brightest star because it is the closest to Earth,

but it is really much smaller than most stars.

The Sun gives off energy. The energy we can see

is called white light. If we pass the white light

through a prism, we see a rainbow. This is called a

rainbow spectrum.

The colours in a spectrum always follow the same order: red, orange, yellow,

green, blue, indigo and violet.
