Celebrating over a Century of Faith and Education

St. Barbara Parish is a Roman Catholic community celebrating a century of faith in the Bridgeport area. Our faith community welcomes all people, helping them grow spiritually through liturgy, prayer, and education, and socially through activities for all ages. Our school takes great pride in fostering these values in our children. We give witness to our faith by sharing with each other our God-given gifts and talents. We nourish and sustain our faith as a family by celebrating the sacraments and the presence of the risen Lord among us in the Eucharist.

ST. BARBARA WINDOW REMEMBRANCE ALTAR & LITURGICAL REMEMBRANCE

The St. Barbara Stained Glass Window illumination (donation-$100) and the Altar/Liturgical Remembrance (donation-$50) are special ways of re-

membering someone prayerfully. These remem-brances can be for someone celebrating a birthday, a couple celebrating their anniversary, someone sick in need of prayers, for the repose of the soul of a loved one who has died, etc. These donations help with the upkeep of the church and help to cover the expense of various altar/liturgical supplies for the week: hosts, wine, candle oil, etc. To give a remembrance, call the church office: (312) 842-7979.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK:

Dear Brothers and Sisters, The last two weeks have been very busy ones in our parish. Our elementary school finished their academic year on Wednesday, June 7th. Congratulations to our students for a wonderful yeae of hard work. Thank you to our principal and teachers for their dedication in educating our students. Once again, I would like to say thank you to our parents for encouraging their children in the Catholic faith and I hope to see you again for the 2017-2018 school year. Last Sunday, we held our annual blood drive. While our numbers were down compared to previous years, I would like to thank Susan Franks, Barbara Hudren, Lisa Marie Wittig, George Vanderford, Ron Gortowski, Ken Ricci, Fidel Garcia and Maria Nozicka for their generosity in donating blood. Also, thank you to Bill Webb, Jonathan Wittig, Vanessa Carrillo Ruiz, Emmanuel King, and Angeli-ca King who came out to donate, but were deferred. Also last Sunday,, we held the Kupala Summer Sol-stice Concert in our church. The concert featured music of the Ukraine, Lithuania, Belarus, Poland and the USA. The concert began with two songs by our own Holy Name Society Choir under the direc-tion of our Music Director, Eva Mrgan. This was followed by a piece performed by composer Jarosław Golembiowski, the Founder and President of the Chicago Chopin Society and a selection of Ukrainian folk songs. The second half of the concert featured the Lincoln-wood Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of its Founder and Music Director, Phillip Simmons. This was truly an international concert as the violin con-certmaster, Ms. Violetta Todorova, was from Russia. During the concert , we had many distinguished guests including the Consulate General of the Ukrainian Council in Chicagoand several leaders of the American Music Festivals. This is the first time we have had a concert featuring only stringed instru-ments and we hope to have more concerts like this in the future.

Thank you for attending our parish carnival. I hope you had a great weekend and enjoyed this wonderful opportunity to get together with your fellow parish-ioners. Please see the pictures on the following page. Fr. Arthur
