Solubility- A property of matter
1. Matter can be categorized by:•Physical Property
•Does not show a change in the objects identity
•Chemical Property
•Does show a change in the object’s identity
2. Solubility is…
•A measure of how well a solute can dissolve in a solvent at a given temperature.
•It can also tell you how much you can add before you make a saturated solution.
3. Solute is…
•The part of the solution that is dissolved by the solvent.
•Ex. Sweetened Iced Tea – the solute is SUGAR
4. Solvent is…
•The part of the solution that dissolves the other substance.
•Ex. Sweetened iced tea – the solvent is the iced tea.
5. Hot Cocoa…
•Solution = the hot cocoa
•Solute = hot cocoa mix
•Solvent = hot water or milk
7. What can change solubility?
•Temperature
•Type of solvent
1. 134 grams 2. 50 ◦C
3. 68 ◦C
4. unsaturated5. As the temperature of the water increased, the amount of solute that will dissolves also increases.
