Introduction

Option 2 Serve more customers
By replacing the NSH-5509 (8 downlink ports) with the MEN-5214 (12 downlink ports) this solution allows more customers to connect to the network with a minimum of additional capital expenditure.
As the MEN-5214 casing is the same size as the NSH-5509, an upgrade does not require new cabinets, and the switches can simply be directly swapped to immediately increase the number of users the network can support.
For a further boost in port density, deploy the MEN-5228 to offer 24 downlink ports. This is ideal for deployment in areas with high occupant density, l ike high-r ise apartment complexes.
Volktek's compact switches (including the MEN-5314, MEN-5214, MEN-5512, MEN-5210, NSH-5509 and NSH-5508) have all the features you would expect from a standard 24-port Layer 2 switch, while having the advantages of a small form-factor, lower expense and greater ease of managability.

By replacing RJ-45 to the home with the NHL-2240 Wireless Router, operators can increase their ARPU with premium rates for the extra services offered.
Customers get 802.11n high-speed wireless data and four RJ-45 ports to plug in their PCs, TVs and other networked devices.

All the benefits of the NHL-2240 Wireless Router (above), but with the added bonus of support for value-added services like IPTV and surveillance.
Volktek's integrated video surveillance solution offers an ARPU-boosting service that allows users to monitor home security cameras via a secure web browser interface on their PC or mobile device.
Volktek has introduced features tailor-made for ISPs and Cable ISPs, including measures to cope with unstable power grid supply and integration with existing network infrastructure, enabling customers to upgrade at minimal expense.

FeaturesPort IsolationPort Isolation separates downlink ports of a VLAN group so that different tenants or dwelling units cannot intercept or monitor each other’s traffic (in Network Neighborhoods, for example).
Rate Limitation allows administrators to set up rules for classified traffic filtering. Different bandwidth quotas can be configured according to packet types such as unicast, unicast flood-ing multicast, or broadcast packets. Network Operators can use Rate Limitation to provide different network bandwidths to subscribers of different tariff plans.

Cable Tester Normally in the event of a cable failure the maintenance staff have no indication as to where the cable has failed - the Volktek cable tester is a software-based system which allows the administrator to check via the GUI and receive a figure (in meters) away from the port where the failure lies.
ARP InspectionA security measure to ensure network integrity, ARP Inspection validates certain network packets to confirm their validity. Without ARP Inspection networks are vulnerable to ARP cache poisoning, which if successful can allow a malicious third party to intercept and control network traffic.
QinQAlso known as Stackable VLANs, QinQ allows a number of VLANs to be contained within a package VLAN. This allows for much more efficient management of multiple services from multiple users, by, for example, wrapping all VoIP traffic (on separate VLANs) from a network in one external VLAN.
IP source guardA security measure designed to counteract an IP spoofing attack which aims to either inject malicious data into the network or gain control of network administration functions. By using DHCP Snooping, legitimate traffic is identified based on several markers (MAC, VLAN, IP) to guarantee the integrity of a particular host attempting to connect to the network.
Link AggregationLACP, or Link Aggregation Control Protocol, allows the network administrator to bind two or more ports together into a virtual trunk, allowing increased data speeds. This is primarily employed on uplink ports to increase the total bandwidth coming into the switch from a single uplink source.

Per Port MAC LimitationCrucial for use in ISP/Telco deployments, per port MAC limitation enables the network admin-istrator to limit the number of MAC addresses which can connect from any given node or port.
This is essential to control the number of users connected to the switch at any one time. With-out this funtion the end user could theoretically extend the network hugely, for example in the case of two adjoining apartments sharing one internet connection.

Abnormal Traffic Detection In order to defend against certain types of spam or flooding attacks, the switch will detect suspicious levels of traffic coming through any port, and can be set to automatically disable any offending port permanently (i.e. until an administrator manually resets) or temporarily (essentially quarantining the port for a set amount of time).
Access Control ListThe L2/L3/L4 Access Control List (ACL) function allows you to create filter rules for determining whether or not the Switch will forward specific packets (based on information contained in the headers) for security or control reasons.
These criteria cover multiple protocol layers (including MAC and IP) and port numbers. I t enables network operators to flexibly control the traffic (like blocking traffic from P2P software, or throwing away packets destined for unused port numbers, which might be hacker attacks).
MVRMulticast VLAN Registration is a protocol which prevents data from being multicast on multiple VLANs. Without this protocol in place, network performance can be impeded by unnecessary duplication of multicast packets, reducing network efficiency and slowing data transfer. MVR allows a single VLAN to be selected as the carrier for multicast traffic, which then feeds the appropriate receivers in other VLANs.
RMONRemote Network Monitoring is a network analysis protocol, designed to aid the network administrator in gathering data on network operations such as traffic data both historical and real-time, address mapping (IP-MAC) of the entire network, and configurable data based on variables for time, highest or lowest traffic, users and more.
TR-069Remote management of a CPE (Customer Premise Equipment) device is possible using TR-069, which allows both remote control and upgrade of end-user equipment. Firmware upgrades, for example, can be automated from a central location, eliminating the need for costly site visits or manual upgrades.
MAC LimitationDeployed in order to limit the number or identity of devices which can connect to a particular port, MAC Limitation allows the network administrator to specify a whitelist of allowed MAC addresses, al lowing only devices with those par ticular addresses to connect to the network. It is also used to limit the number of devices connected to a single downlink port.

Content Awareness (QoS)The VoIP Precendence function enables IP QoS (Quality of Service) for VoIP devices which do not have such capability themselves.
The switch automatically adjusts the IP Prece-dence and DSCP attributes of voice and video media packets to give such VoIP packets a higher priority in the network. This helps to ensure the quality of VoIP traffic, reducing jittery or indis-tinct voice packets.
IGMP SnoopingIGMP Snooping is a feature which allows the switch to “listen in” on IGMP (Internet Group Management Protocol) packets.
IGMP snooping can ver y effectively reduce multicast traffic from streaming and other band-width intensive IP applications.
While a switch that does not understand mul-ticast will broadcast multicast traffic to all the ports in a broadcast domain (a LAN), a switch using IGMP snooping will only forward multicast traffic to the hosts interested in that traffic.
