Dear Friends, Next weekend Katie will speak at all the Masses to explain the dynamics of FORMED. This a service provided by our Diocese and the Augustine Institute to provide resources for formation and education for parishioners of all ages. Religious Education is a priority for our parish in 2019 and 2020. Some parish notes! Advanced Paving patched all the holes in the parking lot and driveway.

Memorial Day Mass will be at 10 AM tomorrow. At this Eucharist, we will remember all of our beloved dead especially those who gave their lives in service to our country in the armed forces.

The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick will be celebrated within the Vigil 4:30 pm Mass on June 1st. Monday evenings the 6.30 pm Mass will be celebrated in the Chapel for the summer months. Parish groups and staff members are invited to take an open hour for our Eucharistic adoration. The Liturgy of the Word

* 1st Reading: Acts 15: 1-2, 22-29 *

Some who had come down from Judea were instructing the brothers, "Unless you are circumcised according to the Mosaic practice, you cannot be saved." Because there arose no little dissension and debate by Paul and Barnabas with them, it was decided that Paul, Barnabas, and some of the others should go up to Jerusalem to the apostles and elders about this question.

The apostles and elders, in agreement with the whole church, decided to choose representatives and to send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. The ones chosen were Judas, who was called Barsabbas, and Silas, leaders among the brothers. This is the letter delivered by them: "The apostles and the elders, your brothers, to the brothers in Antioch, Syria, and Cilicia of Gentile origin: greetings. Since we have heard that some of our number who went out without any mandate from us have upset you with their teachings and disturbed your peace of mind, we have with one accord decided to choose representatives and to send them to you along with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, who have dedicated their lives to the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. So we are sending Judas and Silas who will also convey this same message by word of mouth: 'It is the decision of the Holy Spirit and of us not to place on you any burden beyond these necessities, namely, to abstain from meat sacrificed to idols, from blood, from meats of strangled animals, and from unlawful marriage. If you keep free of these, you will be doing what is right. Farewell.'"

The word of the Lord. THANKS BE TO GOD.

* Response * Psalm 67: 2-3, 5, 6, 8

1. O God, be gracious and bless us and let your face shed its light upon us. So will your ways be known upon earth and all nations learn your salvation.

2. Let the nations be glad and shout for joy, with uprightness you rule the peoples; you guide the nations on earth.

3. Let the peoples praise you, O God; let all the peoples praise you. May God still give us his blessing that all the ends of the earth may revere him.

* 2nd Reading: Revelation 21: 10-14, 22-23 *

The angel took me in spirit to a great, high mountain and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God. It gleamed with the splendor of God. Its radiance was like that of a precious stone, like jasper, clear as crystal. It had a massive, high wall, with twelve gates where twelve angels were stationed and on which names were inscribed, the names of the twelve tribes of the Israelites. There were three gates facing east, three north, three south, and three west. The wall of the city had twelve courses of stones as its foundation, on which were inscribed the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

I saw no temple in the city for its temple is the Lord God almighty and the Lamb. The city had no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gave it light, and its lamp was the Lamb.

The word of the Lord. THANKS BE TO GOD.

* Gospel Acclamation *

* Verse: * Whoever loves me will keep my word, says the Lord: and my Father will love him and we will come to him.

(John 14:23)

* Gospel: John 14: 23-29 *

Jesus said to his disciples: "Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our dwelling with him. Whoever does not love me does not keep my words; yet the word you hear is not mine but that of the Father who sent me.

"I have told you this while I am with you. The Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.

You heard me tell you, 'I am going away and I will come back to you.' If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father; for the Father is greater than I. And now I have told you this before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe."

The Gospel of the Lord. PRAISE TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST.

Our next book is Radical Hospitality: Benedict's Way of Love, by Lonnie Collins Pratt and Daniel Homan OSB. Feel free to join us as we discuss our thoughts about this topic on June 6th in the Marian Room at 7:00 PM. Questions? Call Karen at 216-570-4099 and leave a message and she will get back to you.

According to the ancient Rule of St. Benedict, which is still the operative standard for all Benedictine monasteries, "All guests who present themselves are to be welcomed as Christ." Radical Hospitality shows us that hospitality is not reserved for the monastery only, but is an ideal for all Christians who wish to connect closely with one another. The authors discuss some of the challenges of hospitality: guests sometimes have different values than their hosts; they can intrude upon the routines of daily life; they require intimate companionship when hosts might rather be alone. Within this hospitality there is an element of surrender to true hospitality, of opening the heart to strangers as well as friends. (Publisher's Weekly)

Open the eyes of my heart, Lord!

May 26, 2019 Today’s Gospel reading shows Jesus preparing his disciples for his departure. He promises them the gift of peace, a peace the world cannot give, Jesus reassures his followers that although, he will not be physically present among them, he will continue to be present spiritually through the Holy Spirit. The first reading notes the early Church’s dependence on the Holy Spirit. Todays readings give insight on how to resolve problems in their outreach to the pagan world by prayer and open dialogue under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit operates at the heart of the Christian community by guiding it toward wise decisions. All plans and decisions must begin under the guidance of and in the name of the Holy Spirit.

At Mass each Sunday, we extend a sign of peace to those around us. In hope, we trust what Christ promises: that the Holy Spirit will bring peace to our hearts, families, parishes, communities and world. Reflect on what you sometimes count on for peace and hope. Is it money, success, or another person? How can we return to Hope in God? Is something troubling your heart and pulling you away from God’s peace? Invite the Holy Spirit into your prayers, “Come Holy Spirit.” Do this whenever you notice yourself slipping into anxiety or fear.

Wouldn’t you like a little more peace in your life and in the world? You need to cultivate internal peace so that we can extend this peace to others. This peace comes from Jesus. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to bring peace to our heart. When you take time to pray before the Blessed Sacrament, Jesus’ peace enters your life and you’ll find yourself becoming more peaceful with each visit. We are fortunate to have here at OLG exposition of the Blessed Sacrament five days a week, 24 hours a day. Try making a visit to receive the peace before the Blessed Sacrament even if it’s only a few minutes.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word Every Sunday at 10:30 am Mass, for children age 3- 2nd grade Family Connection Parents are always helping their children prepare for some-thing, whether that consists of getting ready for school, preparing for an exam, or preparing to go on vacation. In today's Gospel, Jesus prepares his disciples for his Passion, death, and Resurrec-tion. He promises his Holy Spirit, gives them the gift of his peace, and tells them not to be troubled. As a family, talk about the kinds of events that you have pre-pared for together; surgeries, funerals, vacations, and first and last days of school are some examples. Talk about why it is important to prepare for important events in our lives. Then read aloud this Sunday's Gospel: John 14:23-29. Talk about how Jesus prepared his disciples for his Death and Resurrection and how he wanted them to be prepared for what would happen so that they would be able to believe. Talk about how, as a family, you can prepare for Pentecost (only 2 weeks away), when we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit, our Advocate.

While you are there- check out… Mary of Nazareth is an epic motion picture on the life of Mary, Mother of Christ, from her childhood through the Resurrection of Jesus. Shot in high definition, it was filmed in Europe with out-standing cinematography, a strong cast, and a majestic music score. Actress Alissa Jung gives a beautiful, compelling, and in-spiring portrayal of Mary. The film vividly captures the essence of Mary’s profound faith and trust in God amidst the great mysteries that she lived with as the Mother of the Messiah, as well as her compassionate humani-ty and concern for others, and the deep love that she and Jesus shared for one another. The movie underscores her special role in God’s plan for our redemption, her unique relationship with Christ, and the tremendous suffering that she endured in union with his Passion and Death, as well as her serene joy at his Resurrection.
