It is the arrangements that often capture the listener’s attention, as many of the tunes are now forgotten. In many cases there are three or four hands, sometimes six hands creating the music. These 200 MIDI files are of songs and tunes mostly written in the 1920s through to the early 1940s. This was a time

when the term ‘jazz’ or ‘jass’ was popular, although it seemed to apply to any music that had an up-tempo beat and a

clever arrangement. It is the arrangements that often capture the listener’s attention, as many of the tunes are now

forgotten. In many cases there are three or four hands, sometimes six hands creating the music. Compared to popular

• Lambeth Walk, written by Noel Gay in 1939, played by Frank Milne (four hands)

• Nola, written and played by Felix Arndt, issued in 1915

• So Am I from “Lady Be Good” written and played by George Gershwin

• Why? from “Sons O’ Guns”, by Davis, Coots & Swanstrom, played by Frank Milne.
