bu|àâtÜç f ophie C. Gary was born April 9, 1918, the second daughter

of Louis and Annie Carter. She lived in Evanston, Illinois until she relocated to Michigan in 2008. She was a life-long member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.

On June 5, 2013, Sophie looked back at her “Footprints in the Sand” and the Lord, just as he had promised picked her up and carried her home.

After accepting Christ at an early age, she became and remained an active member of the Baptist faith serving on the Mt. Zion Church Mis-sion Ministry, Senior Choir as well as tenure in the church kitchen and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW # 7186.

She was widowed from Charles Gary in 1997. Sophie lived a long and active life and gave God the credit for her longevity.

Sophie leaves behind to cherish her memory a son, James A Gary, daughter-in-law Evelyn; grandson, James H. Gary; grandson Keith Jones and wife June; great-grandsons, Keith, Jr, Theo Scott and Tevin; grandson Scott Jones and great-great-granddaughter Sheree Williams, husband Felipe; great-great-great granddaughter Serenity and great-great-great grandson Felipe, Jr, (a son, Charles Davis, sister Alice and dear friend, Mabel Duke preceded her in death).

A niece, Nina Oguntosin and husband Femi, nephew, William W. Garry and wife Vanessa; great niece Erica and great nephew William (Billy). A host of cousins and friends stand as tribute to one who was well loved and will be truly missed but never forgotten.
