What is Forensic Dentistry? Forensic dentistry or forensic deontology is the proper handling, examination and

evaluation of dental evidence, which will be then presented in the interest of justice.

What evidence can be gathered from the examinations of Dentistry?

The evidence that can be gathered from teeth include, the age (in children), identification of the person of whom they belong to, assessment of bite marks.

Forensic dentists are responsible for six main areas of practice:

Identification of found human remains

Identification in mass fatalities

Assessment of bite mark injuries

Assessment of cases of abuse (child, spousal, elder)

Civil cases involving malpractice

Age estimation

What is Forensic Anthropology? Forensic anthropology the study of the human skeleton in a legal setting.

What evidence can be gathered from the examinations of Forensic Anthropology?

A forensic anthropologist can also assist in the identification of deceased individuals whose remains are decomposed, burned, mutilated or otherwise unrecognizable.

• Overview: Forensic anthropologists can help identify skeletonised human remains, such as

the ones found lying in scrub in Western Australia, circa 1900-1910.

Though they typically lack the legal authority to declare the official cause of death, their opinions may be taken into consideration by the medical examiner. They may also testify in court as expert witness.

Forensic Photography

What is Forensic Photography? Forensic photography is the art of producing an accurate reproduction of a

crime scene or an accident scene for the benefit of a court or to aid in the investigation.

• What evidence can be gathered from the examinations of Forensic Anthropology?

It provides investigators with photos of bodies, places and items involved in the crime. Pictures of accidents show broken machinery, or a car crash etc.

• Court use The images must be clear and usually have scales. They serve to not only

remind CSIs and investigators of the scene but also to provide a tangible image for the court to better enable them to understand what happened.

Forensic pathology

What is Forensic Pathology? Forensic pathology is concerned with determining the cause of death by

examination of a cadaver. The autopsy is performed by the pathologist at the request of a coroner or medical examiner. Forensic pathologists are also frequently asked to confirm the identity of a cadaver.

• What evidence can be gathered from the examinations of Forensic Anthropology?

Identification of the cadaver & cause of death such as Homicide, Accidental, Natural, Suicide and Undetermined.

Can Pathologists testify in court?Forensic Pathologists are occasionally required to visit crime scenes or

accidents or to testify in court.
