Sophie Grillet, a British resident artist at 'Spread Art'in Detroit, MI, has more to offer the world than justart. She is passionate about the state of the world in
terms of happiness, quality of life and peace.
Currently, as we stand in the midst of five wars, it isvery easy to imagine the hopelessness that most
people feel. Needless to say, the presidential electionhas Americans a little less than confident. Whilemany people may feel as if they personally do nothave the power to inspire change in the world ormake a difference. Grillet is eager to shift the
mindset of the community in Detroit. Sitting next tome in a cozy corporate coffee house, her eyes filledwith a calm passion as she expressed her innovative,
positive social movement idea featuring the arts.
“So many people feel overwhelmed andpowerless in our issues as a whole. Ithink that instead of focusing on bigchanges, we can begin to heal bystarting where we are with what wehave” says Grillet. Inspired, a peace fellover my heart; her message is simpleand yet efficient. We may not be at aplace to overthrow our government, and we may not agree on racial orenvironmental issues. However, as apeople, what we all have in common isthe desire to experience peace of mindand happiness. Grillet has decided tostart the conversation by kicking off anart show for the public with themessage "Start Here". She has teamedup with GrandFreaks, A Detroit-basedproduction company, to help bring'Start here' to life and spread the word.
'Start Here' will consist of liveperformances by dancers, musicians, poets, and a treat of live painting byGrillet herself. The purpose of the artshow is to lift the cloud of depression inthe community by inspiring the peopleto start where they are with what theyhave in spite of our current issues. 'StartHere' will be held at 5141 Rosa ParksBlvd in Detroit on 11/19/16. Grillet isasking for donations, but the art showwill be open to the public and free ofcharge.
