his holiday season, in an unprecedented year, I am feeling incredibly grateful for Vegas PBS members. I want to thank you for your continued support. We know it’s been a difficult year, and many Southern Nevadans are having to make hard financial choices — your generosity sends a clear message that you believe in Vegas PBS.

It is very important for us to stay connected with our members despite our many in-person events and trips that have been delayed. We miss seeing your faces and talking to you about what matters most. Vegas PBS focuses on creating a sense of community, and we continue to strive to do so. From our many virtual events to our fun online holiday auction, we are giving you opportunities to connect with us in multiple ways.

Our online holiday auction begins on Friday, November 27 and ends Saturday, December 12 at 10 p.m. You can find the list of items up for bid at vegaspbs.org/auction. From gift certificates to unique offers, you are guaranteed to find something you’ll need to have all while supporting this station.

And this December, our holiday programming is in full swing. You’ll find many details about these joyful programs in this magazine. A few highlights I am looking forward to include Hanukkah: A Festival of Delights on Sunday, December 13 at 9 a.m. With international travel difficult, and many of Europe’s beloved Christmas markets closed, you won’t want to miss The Magic of Christmas in Alsace to celebrate these special places from your favorite chair. The program airs Friday, December 18 at 8:30 p.m. And for all of us who are looking for nostalgia this holiday season, don’t forget to tune in to The Lawrence Welk Show: Christmas on Saturday, December 19 at 5 p.m. This is just the tip of the holiday iceberg this winter, so read on in this magazine to find many more warm programs to bring the holiday spirit into your home.

Four times a year, this station holds pledge drives to raise vital funds to keep your favorite programs on the air. This quarter you’ll find an awesome slate of musical performances to entertain and recreate the concert hall in your living room. On Tuesday, December 1 at 10 p.m. you won’t want to miss Ledisi Live: A Tribute to Nina Simone. This renowned American R&B and jazz artist celebrates the music of the one-of-kind Simone, performing many of her beloved songs. You’ll feel like you’re back at Myron’s Cabaret Jazz when you see her on that local stage in this new special. On Saturday, December 5 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. we bring you two back-to-back specials featuring one of America’s favorite singer-songwriters, John Denver. Plus, her music went viral among young people on the social media network TikTok, so you’re sure to enjoy Stevie Nicks: 24 Karat Tour at 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 6.

This holiday season, perhaps more than ever, it’s the little things that bring comfort and joy. Our members make it possible for us to continue to provide programs that inspire and educate; thank you. Please know that we are exceptionally grateful that we can count on your membership in 2020 and beyond. Have a happy and safe holiday. We hope to see you soon.

    Grateful for Vegas PBS Members
