According to education economist Nicholas Spaull, the following conclusion was made:

In 2013 we launched a Pilot Programme in the Western Cape. The program focused on grade six learners from 8 different schools. The Pilot Programme was launched in February 2014 and consisted of 20 1 hour sessions after school hours. Trained facilitators presented these sessions in English and Afrikaans using SAMI visual aids, handbooks, workbooks, practical exercises and activities. An external Evaluation company, Business Development Centre of Excellence (BDCE), was appointed to monitor the learners’ progress, capture the data and conduct a pre and post progress evaluation. This enabled us to compare the progress of the learners who participated in the programme with those who did not participate in the programme.

3.1 What is a Franchise?

A Franchise is a person/partnership/private school that renders the services of the SA Memory

Institute in an exclusive area for an income.

3.2 Responsibilities and duties

A Franchise is responsible for the healthy management, development and growth of SAMI in a

specific area, i.e. approaching schools, collecting the leads, making of appointments with parents,

evaluating, enrolling and training the children. This will include follow up services. A business

plan is in place to help you, step by step, in all above mentioned responsibilities and duties. We

will make 100% sure you are capable of representing the SA Memory Institute.

3.3 Evaluation (Educational Advisor)

Children (gr. 4 -12) complete a learning skill profile at their school, which indicates certain strong

and weak areas. After this an exercise (evaluation) follows that will enable the child to learn 20

words in any order, in the presence of his parents. This would usually take the child 40 minutes,

but with our methods it will be reduced to less than 5 minutes! Families, for the first time, clearly

see the full potential of their children, with the help of SAMI.

3.4 The Course (Course Presenter)

The course is +15 hours (usually 1 week x 2½ hours per day). It is presented after school at a

time that is convenient for you and the children. Most schools provide a classroom at the school

that eliminates transport problems and the school receives a donation. A maximum of 15

scholars per session, primary and secondary scholars separate. A minimum of 3 per session is

advisable for group work and to make it feasible. The course is available in Afrikaans and English.

3.5 Conclusion

To evaluate children shouldn’t be hard work; it is rather a privilege. It is encouraging to see a

child blossom when they reach their full potential and confidence is high… To achieve an above

average income from this is a bonus.

This is an opportunity for everyone that wants

to make a difference in children’s lives.

R2995, payable from only R95 p.m.

Royalties (incl. course material) is R995 per enrolled child.

At no stage is it compulsory for a franchisee to present the course or evaluate the children. It is

important that you should be equipped to recruit and train others to do this.

5. Investment amount = From R49 000 – R250 000 (Please contact for more details)

The learners are being enriched with knowledge they can apply in class and improve their learning

process.

The SAMI lessons have helped me as an educator to improve my teaching and I have applied these

learning methods in my class.

This SAMI Programme can definitely make a difference at various schools.

From the first session I attended, I was captivated by the methods that were taught to the learners. The

facilitator interacted well with the learners and was amazing in presenting the content in an interactive

and exciting way to the learners. I noticed a visible improvement with the results and the motivation of

the children

We need to provide the rest of the children in the school with this opportunity as well because they

need to receive the knowledge too.

As the principal of the school, I am excited about the SAMI Programme. The Programme is achieving

its goals and I request that it continues in our school.
