supports South Dakota’s agricultural

We have six agricultural inspectors across the state who work with producers, processing facilities, and agribusinesses to ensure compliance with state rules andregulations.
We have three regulatory program areas that provide licenses and permits for agricultural activities such as beekeeping, dairy processing, and pesticide application.
Our mediation program helps debtors and creditors resolve financial disputes in a confidential setting.
The Resource Conservation and Forestry Division works to conserve,
protect, improve, and develop the natural
resources of South Dakota for its citizens.
South Dakota has 69conservation districts that provide assistance to those interested in conserving natural resources.
We have 11 foresters who work with individuals and communities across the state to provide technical assistance, as well as forest management planning.
The State Fair Park is a year-round facility focusing on agricultural, equestrian,
youth, cultural, and community events that are
family friendly and showcase the best of the
great state of South Dakota.
In 2018, the State Fair Park hosted the second largest rodeo in the world the National Junior High Finals Rodeo.
In 2017, the State Fair Park hosted events 242 days outof the year a year - round experience!
At the 2018 State Fair, the grandstand turned 100 years old.
The Wildland Fire Division provides protection for
resources and the public that we serve, from
wildland fire.

We have crews that workwith landowners in the Black Hills to thin treesand remove dead materialfrom the landscape to protect homes from fires.
Our foresters work with tree owners in Sioux Falls to identify emerald ash borer and recommend treatments for minimizing the spread of the pest.

One acre of South Dakota corn produces about
423 gallons of ethanol.
Soybeans covered 5.4 million acres of South Dakota farm ground, more than any other crop.
There are 40 farmers markets across South Dakota.*
South Dakota has 4 million head of beef cattle, which is almost five cows per person.
A 275 pound pig yields 16 pounds of bacon.^
One sheep can produce up to 30 pounds of wool each year.##
In 2017, South Dakota had 255,000 honey-producing colonies.
In July of 2018, South Dakota had 121,000 dairy cows.
South Dakota has over 1,900 acres of forest land.**
There are over 1,100 native plant species found on
South Dakota grasslands.++
Prescribed burns can be utilized as a grassland management practice.
South Dakota has 650 types of identified soils.^^
South Dakota ranks #4 in oat production.
South Dakota ranks #1 insunflower production.
One bushel of South Dakotawheat can produce 1.75 billion pounds of pasta.
