Inspiring Excellence through PRIDE Principal: Mr Peter Hickey Vere Street South Grafton NSW 2460 T: 02 6642 3388 F:02 6643 2065 [email protected] In the next few weeks our school will be involved in a number of excellent initiatives. In Week 6 on Wednesday 26th August we will be holding two Performing Arts concerts for our Infants and Primary campuses. Our Performing Arts program is truly outstanding and we are looking forward to this showcase. We welcome back Mr Tapp this week and he will be organising these concerts for our school. All students participating will be also involved in a full dress rehearsal practise on Monday 24th August. Our school will be videoing and taking photos of these concerts which will be highlighted on our school Facebook page as unfortunately due to NSW DEC guidelines parents can not attend. The video component will be snippets of each performance. In Week 7 on Tuesday 1st September we will be holding our bi-annual Book Character Parade. The organisation for this parade is currently taking place which unfortunately will not involve our school community but we will definitely be highlighting this occasion on Facebook for our families. All students who participate will be expected to stay at school for the whole day. We will hold a parade on both campuses to abide by NSW DEC guidelines. Our school will be holding a Book Fair which will open on Monday 24th August information will be distributed to our community next week. Our thanks to Mrs Heyman for organising our Book Character Parade and Book Fair. Yesterday we had two Rugby League teams participate in a Gala Day with Grafton PS at McKittrick Park. All of our students had a fun day and showed great team spirit and sportsmanship. Our thanks to Mr Duroux for his coaching and Mr Kelly and Mrs Dougherty who supported these teams on the day. Today our Prefects were involved in their second leadership development day which was held at our school and led by Mrs McIntyre and Mr Zacek. The students are working on some initiatives to further improve their understanding of our school PRIDE values. ENROLLING NOW FOR KINDERGARTEN 2021 Please complete your enrolment forms and lodge with either office to help us with our planning for 2021. Its very important we have a very good idea of our numbers as our staffing is decided each year on school numbers which have to be processed by November. Please remember to practise social distancing whenpicking up and dropping off your children, particularly on our Infants campus. We would appreciate parents drop and go during these times. No parents should be in the corridors. Parents should only be visiting the school through the office for essential reasons. Please ensure your child has a drink bottle as our bubblers are closed for individual drinking.

I have received confirmation Ms Carmel Small will be continuing her relieving position as the Learning and Wellbeing Officer at Coffs Harbour for the remainder of the term. Mrs Wendy Jones will continue in her roll teaching our EI students and supporting our Infants classes and Miss Wendy Cotten will continue in her relieving Special Education Assistant Principal role.

Tell Them From Me Parent SurveyThis Term, our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement.Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school’s support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements. The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, iPads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will open on Tuesday 11th August and close on Friday 28th August. Although participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated. To access the survey for our school go to: http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/sgps2061

Marvellous Maths with Mrs McGrathRecently the school has purchased a number of books that have mathematics embedded within them. This term we will be looking at using these texts to unpack the mathematical problems to understand more about place value, fractions and all things mathematical. One Grain of Rice is a lovely story about the power of doubling and how easy it is to count to a billion once you can count to 10! I wonder how many books you have at home that also explore mathematics in this way?
