Commodore’s Comments

What a wonderful start to a fantastic month! First, we had spectacular weather for most of the 4th of July weekend. It was great to see all of the people down at the Club. And better yet, getting out on the water to enjoy fireworks and festivities. Next, we had a very successful SMYC Summer Picnic with great food, great music, and a fun time was had by all. I want to thank everyone that gave a helpful hand: Ryan Behling, Jeff Ward, Tony Karwacki, Greg Rehak, Tom and Meg Ciurlik, Jim Buss, Shawn Zoltak. If I have missed anyone, please forgive me. A huge thank you to all who brought a dish to pass! We had quite an array of side dishes! Our band, The Sentinels, were fantastic and I am sure we will be inviting them back to entertain us again by popular demand. We are coming to that time of the year again when we start thinking about elections for next year’s Board. Positions that will be open are as follows: • Commodore • Vice Commodore • Rear Commodore • Corresponding Secretary • Financial Secretary • Treasurer • 2 3-year Board Positions We will make an announcement next month on who will be the Chair of the Election Committee. In the meantime, if you have questions on what the positions are or entail, please feel free to talk to current Of-ficers and Board. Always remember this is your Club – consider get-ting involved! Finally, enjoy the rest of the summer with your family and friends at the Club. Hopefully we will have calm seas and sunshine for the next couple months so that we can continue enjoying our playground on Lake Michigan. See you at the Club, Jon Haag SMYC Commodore (c) 414-617-3438 (e) [email protected]

We had a great July contest on July 8th, however nobody told the weatherman. Brisk winds out of the southwest

Had the fishermen contending with 3-5 ft. rollers. Justin Zblewski and his crew from Danger Zone, are getting a reputation as bad weather fishermen as they not only won this tournament with 9 fish but also won the Grand Slam (catching all 5 species in 1 SMYC event) for the second year in row. The big fish from the Tournament were a 17lb Brown Trout and a 13lb Laker from Danger Zone and an 8lb Coho from Ron Ilk’s crew in Skipper II. Powder Puff Fishing Aug. 5th.

The Powder Puff fishing event, to benefit a cure for Breast Cancer, will be held August 5th at 4pm.

This is a fun fishing event where only female club members and guests are invited to fish on participating boats from our club. Each boat

is allowed up to 2 males- 1 to drive the boat and 1 to set lines and net fish. The female fisherwomen are the only ones to real in the fish.

Cost is $30 per female participant and this includes a box lunch and door prizes. The fish

weigh in and celebration will be at 9:30pm.

All are welcome!

Please let Dan Moshinski know if you would volunteer your boat or would like to fish and contact Debbie Larson if you can help with the

event.

A sign-up sheet will be on the bulletin Board.

The June 17th contest was very productive for all boats in the con-test. The winning boat was Lost My Bearings skippered by Bryan Gahan. Big fish included 17lb King by Lost My Bearings, a 16 lb. king by Dragging Fly’s, and a 16lb Laker by Danger Zone. The next SMYC tournament is July 8th. Call Dan Moshinski at 414-732-6544 for more info. Pictured from left to right Bryan Gahan, Wayne Gestwicki, and Jeff Janda

Ham Salad Sandwich

What You'll Need

• 2 cups finely chopped cooked ham

• 1/2 cup finely diced celery

• 1 teaspoon grated onion

• 1/3 cup mayonnaise, or to taste

• 1 scant teaspoon prepared mustard*

• salt and pepper, to taste, optional

• 12 slices bread

• butter or extra mayonnaise for bread, optional

• * Use yellow mustard, Dijon, whole grain, or

Creole mustard, or use your favorite gourmet

mustard blend.

How to Make It

1. In a medium bowl, combine the chopped ham, diced celery, onion, mayonnaise, and mustard. Add more mayonnaise, if

desired. Taste and adjust seasonings.

2. Lightly butter the bread slices or spread with extra mayonnaise, if desired.

3. Spread 6 slices of bread with even portions of ham salad mixture.

4. Top with the remaining 6 slices of bread. Slice diagonally and serve the sandwiches with chips, French fries, salad, or a

cup of soup.

Expert Tips

• For 24 small luncheon or party sandwiches, cut

each sandwich diagonally into quarters. Or use

small party rolls.

• Toast or grill the bread before assembling the

sandwiches.

Variations

• Add chopped hard-boiled egg to the ham mixture.

• Line the bread with lettuce leaves and thinly

sliced tomatoes or avocado.

• Add chopped sweet or dill pickle to the ham

mixture along with the mayonnaise and mustard.
