    Book Character Parade

Fun was had by all at our annual Book Character Parade yesterday. Everyone loves to

dress up and parade for all to see. Thank you to our parents and friends that supported

the event through volunteering to help in the canteen, watching, ensuring children had

a special outfit and sharing a picnic lunch. Anything we do that inspires and motivates

    students to read is valuable.

help them improve. Staff in schools will not be able to identify individual students

from their responses. To ensure confidentiality, participating students will receive a

    Learning @ SWPS:

    Effective listening

Next week we will be focusing on

    developing our skills of effective

    listening.

    Effective listening involves paying

full attention to someone talking so

I can deeply understand what they

    are saying.

    Student thinking may include:

I will pay attention to others

    by looking at them.

I will show I am listening by

    making eye contact and

    turning my body to face

    them.

I will avoid distractions while I

    am listening.

    Through effective listening SWPS

    aims to help students deeply

    understand their learning and

    engage appropriately with teachers

    and their peers.

    Kindergarten Excursion to Riverina Environmental

    Education Centre 21 August

In Kindergarten, we have been looking at the needs of

living things. As a part of this Science unit, students visited

the Riverina Environmental Education Centre. At the start

of the day, students transformed into junior rangers and

were given the responsibility to care for a native Australian

animal. Travelling across different habitats, these animals were given passports to explain what food they ate and the

environment it lived in. The challenge was for each junior

ranger to return their native animal to its habitat. It was a

great day outdoors exploring different animals and

environments while learning about the needs of living

    things.

Year 5 Maths with Ms Hawkins

Year 5 students this week have been learning about 3D objects with Ms Hawkins (CSU Masters Student). Ms Hawkins created a

lesson where students had to design, sketch and make skeletal models of prisms and pyramids using a variety of materials to

connect 3D objects to their 2D representations. The students demonstrated their excellent problem-solving and collaborative

    group skills throughout the lesson.

    National Science Week

In week 4, which was science week, Wagga High came down to conduct

some science experiments with our Stage 3 students. All students got to

experience a hands on approach to science which they thoroughly

    enjoyed.
