In addition to the details entered I have spoken to [the Inspector] by telephone, it would seem that the drinks were being distributed throughout the city to the public and to large city centre employers as part of a marketing campaign. The Insp. has suggested that in return for a bottle a donation is asked for from staff to be given to the Ty Hafan charity. In the circumstances I am satisfied that there is no compromise in that the gift was not solicited, and that accepting the gift would not undermine public confidence and trust. Approved.

Ladies mountain bike initially offered for conversion to South Wales Police Bicycle for mobile patrol.

While speaking with local organisations about developing a cycle patrol scheme in the PONTYPRIDD area, CAPITA SYMONDS offered a donation of a mountain bike for conversion into a police patrol bike. CAPITA SYMONDS are involved in the regeneration of the town centre in PONTYPRIDD and have worked alongside COSTAINS and S.W.P. on previous community projects. The bike was financed from a CAPITA SYMONDS fund for local community enhancement projects. The cycle has been delivered to S.W.P. However it is unsuitable for conversion into a police patrol bike and so permission was requested to accept the bike so that it can be donated to a local Disability Sport Wales cycle scheme for their use. This scheme receives donated bikes and converts them for use by disabled children so that they can participate in cycle rides CAPITA SYMONDS agreed pending authorisation.

Approved, the donation of this cycle will be to a worthy local charity which will be progressed with the consent of CAPITA. No issues of concern.

A Welsh language TV programme called Hwb along with representatives from the Welsh National Eisteddfod organised the event. An interview was arranged to build up the background pictures of the officer and also for the audience to meet and greet with the finalists and discus their experiences around learning and teaching Welsh. The monies received were to cover petrol expenses to travel to these locations as the officer utilised their own vehicle.

The gift was left at Swansea Met Uni as an appreciation of the 1st aid training that Llangyfelach Colts AFC coaches received by the PS and PC. The training was part of community engagement and no remuneration was sought or expected. To return the gift now may cause embarrassment and seem ungrateful as the intent would seem reasonable to those who left the gift. In terms of any future training this would be considered on the same basis in terms of community engagement.


DECLINED: Whilst it acceptable to accept the chocolates, it is not permitted within policy to accept alcohol. The wine will need to be returned. Consideration could be given to donating the wine to local charitable cause to raise funds e.g. as raffle prize.
