One Month to Go...AHHHHHH!!!!!

We are only one month out from the exciting con-vention in Athens. As this journey is about to come to fruition, I cannot help but feel overwhelming joy as I anticipate arriving. Your convention chair, George Singleton, has been working hard to help create this magical time in each of our lives. I know he will “Achieve” great success and you will as well as you continue your photographic journey by attending the courses that are in store for you.

How do you participate? You have to register! There are morning seminars that are photographic safaris all around town. You may have to be an “early-ris-er” for just a few days. There are also the traditional seminars as well as photographic competition and the incredible trade show, where you can shop ‘til you drop (you know who you are).

Did I mention social time? The Sunday night all con-vention party is being held at the Rialto Club at the Hotel Indigo. If you are a fan of cool music nostalgia, this event is not to be missed. The Rialto is a beautiful club and I know you will enjoy.

So, get registered, make your hotel reservation and be sure to register your images for competition.

See you in Athens,

The SEPPA Board of Governors, at the 2010 meeting in Franklin, TN,

approved the all new SEPPA Degree Program.

The Southeastern Photographic Fellowship

is now a reality!

You can earn your new SPF Degree in two categories.

The orange ribbon is earned with a concentration in print credits,

the purple ribbon with a concentra-tion in service to the organization.

The requirements for both options are completed with

education and/or service credits. You may also achieve both Degrees,

signified by a purple and orange ribbon.

SEPPA will post the Credit Chart and submission forms at a later date.

Be sure to check back. All events, beginning

April 1, 2010will be eligible to submit for credit.

What Is Your Next Step?

So…you attended iUSA in Atlanta, worked the tradeshow and came home with a bazillion busi-ness cards. What’s your next step?

That’s exactly the situation I found myself in when I finally got everything unpacked…I had collected a lot of business cards, many with notes on the back…potential vendors for East Coast School, prospective students needing additional informa-tion on classes or a vendor with a new product I wanted to try in the studio.

My next stop was to search the app store for some sort of business card scanner. After reviewing all that turned up in my search, I settled on “CamCard HD” which was a little pricey at $7.99 but totally worth every penny.

This app uses the camera in your iPhone or iPad to take a picture of the business card (both sides!) and then extracts the contact information for you. If the card contains a font that the app has diffi-culty reading you can update the card information manually.

Plus, you can group cards into whatever categories you like—I have mine set up for “Business”, “Person-al”, “Rotary” and a group for “iUSA”. Cards can also be in multiple groups, too.

Once I get a card entered and drop it into the group it should be in I have several other options: I can share the information via email, text message or QR code. I can also make notes on the tiny notepad at the bottom of the card screen.

There’s even a place for me to enter my own card information so that I can share it with others.

But one of the biggest bonuses for me is the ability to export cards in several formats: I can save to my iPhone/iPad contacts, export to vCard or export to an Excel spreadsheet. The ability to export to a spreadsheet means that I can select potential vendors for East Coast School and send them to our tradeshow coordinator so that the followup can be done.

Another bonus for me is no longer having to carry a separate business card holder in my bag—all the cards are stored electronically and I can access them on whatever device I happen to be using.

Consider this another opportunity for organizational bliss in 2013—you’ll be glad you did!

Trend or Brand?Photography entered the new millenium with life changing technological advances, as well as several new challenges.

The floor for professionals has significantly narrowed with time.

Capturing good images became a common and usual hobby for many, through the use of the camera on cell phones or a basic digital camera. Images are easily posted on facebook ; all people have to do is to click on a few buttons. The ease of access to most software programs, albums or framing companies in order to enhance their own images became very simple. In light of these changes, what can we do to distinguish ourselves from the mass and be in a class where noone else is?

By becoming the authors of an exclusive signature of timeless images while educating the public about the importance of creating memories which will last a lifetime, we set our art appart.

We will demonstrate trough lighting, composition, design and intelligent marketting, how to achieve unique lifestyle portraits, where people can see themselves and use their personalized image as a masterpiece to decorate their interior.

We will also share our extended passion to create fine art paintings, adding some great advantages in diversity to our portfolio and reaching new markets.

Change can be unsettling but wihout it, we would not evolve.

Being in control and focused is the key to success !
