CHART-TOPPING SOUTHERN GOSPEL MUSIC

Hear the harmonious sounds of southern gospel music on every stage and around every corner, as the top names in the industry belt melodious sounds and soulful lyrics during Southern Gospel Picnic! This week’s performances come from big names like Dove winners, Grammy nominees and Singing News Fan Favorites just to name a few. The festival is considered one of America’s premier Southern Gospel

events and has become a tradition for many. “Fans of Southern Gospel are excited to be able to get together and celebrate the music they love so much. Southern Gospel Picnic is a homecoming for families around the nation who travel to see these performers live,” says entertainment manager Amanda Carson. Mathes of Crossway Baptist Church located in Springfield, Missouri on September 5. The worship service will be held at Red and Gold Heritage Hall (D-7). Check out the daily show guide on page 6 for the performances you don’t want to miss and make sure to arrive early for great seats!

IMPORTANT INFORMATIONWe are SOOOO excited that you’ve chosen to spend your family’s quality time with us and we want to give you some insider tips on how to navigate your adventures to make the most of your day…

Challenge Your Sense Of Discovery—

Our beautiful park (lovingly known as “The City”) is

NOT your average park…it is filled with adventures

that our founders believed were best experienced

as “surprises”. All the nature (trees and lush

landscaping) that keep us cool and adds to

The City’s charm, coupled with winding pathways,

can sometimes make rides and attractions seem

hidden to first-time visitors.

The BIGGEST KEY to keep in mind for wayfinding is

THAT THE PARK IS REALLY JUST 1 BIG CIRCLE! The

circle starts at the TOP of the park on The City’s

Square and is completed at the BOTTOM of

the park in the NEW Rivertown Area.

(Tip: If you are going downhill you

are going deeper into the

park, if you are heading uphill you are heading back to The City’s Square and the park entrance.)

Looking To Get On A Coaster First? From the TOP of the park on The City’s Square be sure to head LEFT, this will take you DOWN Hill Street (that’s right…if you don’t want to come up the biggest hill in the

park we suggest you go left first). On Hill Street you will find most of our BIG THRILL RIDES & COASTERS

(WildFire, PowderKeg, Fire-In-The-Hole and you aren’t that far from Outlaw Run and The Giant

Barn Swing). Looking for the other record-breaking biggie, Time Traveler? It does set

on the right side of the park next door to Thunderation…don’t worry, either just keep

going around the circle and look for them near the Christmas Shop or Glass

Blowing Shop OR backtrack to the TOP of the park, past the Blacksmith and

over the truss bridge to start time traveling.

CITY GUIDE

Needing To Find Kid-Friendly Areas? From the TOP of the park on The City’s Square go RIGHT first, this is Valley Road and is the fastest path to our 3 kid-friendly areas, plus Thunderation and Time Traveler. 1) Half Dollar Holler — Follow Valley Road and turn left at the Christmas Shop to find Half Dollar Holler’s play area for littles or the Frisco Steam Train that the whole family will enjoy. 2) The Grand Exposition — Take Valley Road all the way to the Tater Twist stand and KEEP GOING STRAIGHT…all the way to the very end, where you’ll find The Grand Exposition filled with 10 family friendly rides. Here’s where most little ones take their first coaster ride aboard the mini-coaster—The Grand Exposition Coaster! (Tip: If it is your child’s first ever official coaster ride on either the little coaster or one of our bigger giants…let our ride attendants know so we can celebrate with you by presenting your child with a ribbon to commemorate this special first!)

3) Fireman’s Landing — Back on Valley Road round the corner and GO PAST the Tater Twist stand, walk across the railroad tracks and round the next corner where you’ll find Fireman’s Landing on the right. Here you’ll discover 10 more family adventures including the climate-controlled Fire Station No. 3 with multi-level interactive play and where you’ll meet Lucky The Rescue Dog® (see times on page 6).(Tip: SAVE TIME & FRUSTRATION by getting your kiddos measured at the Fireman’s Landing Measuring Station located in the Fire Station. Once measured they will be given a wristband to wear for the day that denotes their height and won’t have to be measured again at other rides. PLUS, we suggest you write your cell phone number on the wristband so that we can contact you right away if you get separated from your child!

FOR NEW VISITORS:

Find Selfie Spots & Instagram Gold—There’s all sorts of super cool photo spots all over The City that will make your followers envious, but more importantly will create memories you can keep for a lifetime! Ask a City Citizen to direct you to the following that are favorites…1) The Log & Ax at The City’s Entrance (of course you have to get a photo here, everybody does!)2) Homestead Ridge (a legit homestead with multiple cabins, barnyard, schoolhouse and church…this is the jackpot of genuine 1880s photo ops that make it appear that you’ve stepped back in time!)3) The Silver Dollar City Stagecoach (on the porch of the Ashley’s Tintype Photography) 4) The Coffin In Midtown (next to the exit of Grandfather’s Mansion)5) The Stocks At The Flooded Mine’s Entrance (both fun to take and fun to pose with others)6) The Jailhouse In Midtown (don’t worry about the inmate snoozing inside, he won’t mind if you squeeze in for a photo behind the bars!) 7) With Our Zany Citizens…yes, they’d love to take a photo with you—just ask!

Want Fun For The Whole Family? No matter the age, sprinkled throughout The City there’s something for all speeds and thrill levels to be able to enjoy together. Starting at the TOP of the park head RIGHT down Valley Road, cross the truss bridge and take the first left by the Christmas Shop behind which is the Frisco Silver Dollar Line Steam Train’s Depot. (Tip: This is a don’t-miss ride on a genuine steam train that just might include a fun surprise half way through the trip around the rails. Hold on to your valuables!)And, right next to the Train Depot is the Flooded Mine…this old-fashioned float trip has guns aboard that allow families to have a friendly competition as they target practice along the trek.At the BOTTOM of the park is the All-NEW Rivertown Area where the family-raft ride NEW Mystic River Falls resides with a nearly half-mile river journey complete with an epic splashdown finale…sure to cool off everyone in your party. And, just up the road is RiverBlast where your family can take aim at passersby along the shore for some good ol’, water-blastin’ fun! And, together you can take a break from all the rides and walking with shows…must-see, crowd favorites are the Silver Dollar City Saloon currently performing Sadie’s Traveling Review in the Boatworks Theatre and Down By The Riverside starring the Rivertown Ramblers at the Dockside Theatre.

Don’t Miss Hidden Gems— We’ve heard it before from newbies, I had no idea about…

Guided Tours of Marvel Cave: That’s right, there’s an actual cave inside the park that you can TAKE A GUIDED TOUR of. It’s not just any ordinary cave…it’s Missouri’s Deepest Cave and a registered natural landmark! At a cool 60 to 65 degrees year-round, this 60-minute tour is a true treasure…filled with stories,

history, lore, multiple caverns, formations and you might even see a bat! Cave tours depart from the Hospitality House found at the TOP of the park at the park entrance. That Weird Up-side Down House: Otherwise known as Grandfather’s Mansion, you have to visit it! The whole family can experience this wacky, zany and sometimes crazy house

that just might make you feel a bit off kilter in a good way…or at least it will make you all laugh! Fastest way to Grandfather’s Mansion is to go to the TOP of the park on The City’s Square and find it tucked between the Farm House at The General Store and Hannah’s Ice Cream Parlor (Tip: Walk between the two buildings and before you get to the stairs look left!)The Swinging Bridge: Once you’ve crossed it, it becomes a tradition every time you come! You can either enter down Valley Road next to the Christmas Shop OR in Midtown by Sullivan’s Mill pick your location.Don’t Look Holes & Talking Bucket: From time to time as you wander around our City you’ll see signs that say “Don’t Look Here” usually above a hole in the wall…well, of course, you just have to take a peep! These could even be in ride queue lines, so be on the lookout for these extra fun surprises! And, be sure to find the Talking Bucket just up from the Train Depot as you head toward Midtown…kids especially get a big kick out of this one!

Glass Blowers Light The Way To The Past

Just like in yesteryear, when you step into Hazel’s Blown Glass Factory (X-X) you’ll see the warm glow from the furnaces and hear our expert glassblowers spin tales and share their expertise as they create functional works of art right before your very eyes. These amazing craftsmen create hundreds of one-of-a-kind pieces that each is their own special way are sure to brighten up any room! From oil bottles and bowls to vases, pitchers, cups and even light fixtures, the options are endless. One of our many talented glass blowers is Gabe Bloodworth. Gabe says glassblowing is a natural fit for him, following in his father’s footsteps— a master glassblower at Silver Dollar City 25 years ago, glass is literally in his blood. The talent is clearly shared between generations and shown in the handcrafted glass Gabe creates. Prior to coming to The City Gabe worked in several glass shops and with the Corning Museum of Glass in New York, often doing some of the same demonstrations he does today. Bloodworth shares that “glassmaking has a long and proud history… it is an honor to demonstrate glassmaking for our guests and share my passion and love of glass.” To see Gabe’s work in person, stop in Hazel’s Blown Glass today. Make sure to

watch our demonstrating craftsmen at work and see the glass blowing process that takes place for the final product to emerge!
