WELL WE HAD A GREAT TIME AT THE KENTUCKY DERBY PARTY. GREAT FOOD
AND GREAT ENTERTAINMENT. THE HORSE RACES WERE A LOT OF FUN. I HOPE
WE CAN DO THIS AGAIN.
FOR FATHERS DAY WE WILL HAVE PIZZA AND ICED TEA. SPECIAL DEAL LADIES
WILL ONLY PAY $1 FOR THIS. YOU MUST SIGN UP.
ON A SERIOUS NOTE A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE COMPLAING ABOUT PEOPLE
SPEEDING IN THE PARK. PLEASE WATCH YOUR SPEED.
ALSO BECAUSE OF THE DRY WEATHER THERE A BURN BAN ON SO BE CAREFUL
OF ANY OPEN FIRES AND TOSSING CIGARETTS.
THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH KEEPING THE CLUB HOUSE CLEAN. IF YOU MAKE A
MESS PLEASE CLEAN IT UP.THAT IS ALL I ASK.

Southfork Kentucky Derby Party

The weather for the Southfork Derby was much better than the Kentucky Derby. The Southfork stable of horses and jockeys had no mud to run thru, (maybe next time).
Dinner of fried chicken, potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans, and cake with strawberries was preceded by the presentation of the winners of the derby hat contest.
Prettiest hat winner was Katie Bellnier, silliest hat winner was Craig Whitback. Thanks to everyone that decorated hats, you made our judges (Tom Geyer, Jim Holley, and Roger Layne) job very difficult.
After dinner, our betting "windows" manned by Carolyn McAdams and Lynda Adams opened, our jockeys had their horses at the starting gate and we were off. Handy Hollis (Adams) and Gater Jim (McAdams) kept our jockeys in line and on the move. Nancy Holley and Lonnie Layne were kept busy at the payout window.
Thank you to everyone that worked behind the scenes to make this party a success and thanks to everyone that attended (we couldn't do this without your support).

typical men’s pizza party with Ice Tea.
Yes, come and be served by the special women in your lives and enjoy a change of pace from
the “usual” (men cooking for us) at our food events. All of us women are looking forward to
serving you on this special day. (smile)
All of this, to all of you, for being special in our lives and you know we would not forget
you and we thought you all deserved it.

There will be no Hotdogs/Hamburgs
on Wednesday’s for the rest of the
summer. They will resume in the Fall.
Thanks to everyone including the Blue Jay people
who have supported this weekly event.
JUST A REMINDER !
Women’s Club again this summer will be collecting school supplies. Starting
July 10th there will be a container in the clubhouse for all donations. Ending
date will be August 8th. The Women’s Club will purchase the backpacks again
this year. Our Donations will go to Lacoochee Elementary School. Below is a
list of supplies they recommend. Thank You for your support!

This group has major fun and especially waiting to see if
everyone followed directions on how to get the right
address.
HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS
THREE ACTIONS to be taken to help prepare for possible disasters and other emergencies.
Those three (3) Actions are:
1. Get a Kit
Flashlight w/fresh batteries also a phone charger
Drinking water for 3 days for each person in the household
Canned food
Clothes/Bedding/Pillows/Towel
Medicines
Money(cash on hand in case ATM;s become inoperable
Generators
Bathtub full of water to flush toilets
Pet Supplies
BBQ Grill w/fresh tank of propane for cooking
Rain gear
Important Papers-Insurance policies, phone numbers etc.
Contact numbers for relatives etc. needed
2. Make A Plan
Get a map of where you plan to evacuate to
Familiarize yourself with local emergency shelters
When to leave if an evacuation order is broadcast
Have sufficient gas in car
Put hurricane awnings down
Turn refrigerator to coldest temps and then do not open unnecessarily
3. Be Informed
Purchase a portable weather radio
Listen to TV bulletins and weather alerts
Read newspapers and follow storm maps etc. (Utilize the internet to follow storms and make
preparations)
Be prepared and do not wait until the last minute!!!!!! Season starts June 1st –Dec 1
st.

NEIGHBORLY UNSUNG HERO’S
There have been many instances here in Southfork
where there has been a sudden illness or death occurring or a neighbor who
has no family and depends on a friendly gesture from their neighbors..
During times such as this, there are so many here in our community who do
not hesitate and send out a helping hand, “ Our Unsung Heroes.”
On a weekly, daily, monthly basis many of these neighbors take care of those
who are in desperate need with visits, taking food, calling them by phone and
helping in so many other numerous ways.
I know of 4 people on our street alone who reach out and help a neighbor.
They were not asked but just take it upon themselves to help out.
We are very thankful for the many residents who take on being kind and
considerate and these people never look for a “Thank you” and at this time I
commend all who have and still are helping others.
Thank you all and that is what makes living here in Southfork so FANTASTIC!!!!!

#1 – This sweet lady is JEAN RAPINAC – born Jean Matz, in Lyons, Illinois (a west Chicago Suburb) on October 7th
. Moving here on
Prairie Drive in August 2015, Jean retired from Springfield Missouri School District, where she worked in the attendance office at the high school and also drove a school bus! “Jean of All Trades.” Jean has three children, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She loves dancing and sewing, and especially tending to her cute little doggie, Rosie. You’ll see her walking Rosie and spoiling her on a daily basis. That’s great! You know Jean with her warm, friendly smile!
#4 – That’s our MARCIA MAYER. “Marcia, Marcia, Marcia”! Marcia Matz was born March 28th
in Lyons, Illinois. Yes, correct! Her
sister is Jean Rapinac! Marcia resides on Palamino Drive and has been in Southfork since December 2015. Her career path was in the Office Medical field, retiring from Edwards Hospital in Naperville, IL. She is widowed and has two children and three grandchildren. Marcia enjoys reading, sketching and has done oil paintings in the past. Oh, she also has a real bossy parrot, but so adorable! Another pretty Matz gal! We’re happy these ladies chose Southfork as their home!
#2 – Meet our MR. GARY ROSE (no, not Pete). This interesting guy was born on May 10th
in Troy, New York. He and Linda moved
here to Palamino in 2004. They’ve been married 49 years with three children, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. Gary retired from CVS where he was a Chemical Technician. He’s also an Ordained Minister! His hobbies are: (1) Bible Studies; (2) Computers; (3) Blogging (newbiblereflections.blogspot.com….biblereflections.blogspot.com); (4) MS Access Programming (ex: compositebible.com); (5) Chess (standard & 3D); and (6) reading GREEK (sounds Greek to me)! A busy guy and an A+ personality…Gary always speaks to everyone and loves that “Pal” Poodle of theirs also! A real people-person!
#3 – Yes, that’s LINDA ROSE! Born Linda Langenbach on November 1st
in Troy, New York! Linda’s career path included Home
Health Care Aide, retiring from Mobil Personal Services. She was in the printing business to, AND with three children! Linda also enjoys reading, embroidering, crocheting, and cooking. (Think I’ve smelled some delicious aromas from their home.) Very interesting story on these two and their 49 years of marriage! They met in school at age 15. Both sides of their families did not approve of the other, so after Gary and Linda dated over 4 years – with about $2.00 in their pockets, driving an old Pontiac, and no place to live – they decided to ELOPE!! That, they did and have been together all these years! Love that story and it’s one that proves you don’t have to pay a fortune for wedded bliss! Congratulations on your upcoming 50
th wedding anniversary you two!
