Make sure the loft is in the room where it will be used before assembly, as it cannot be moved from room to room once it is assembled. 1. Set the four legs close by, and place the platform of the Play Loft on it’s side (see fig. 1). The Play Loft platform has access points for the ladder staircase and slide on one side only. Place this side towards the floor (this side only has four wooden dowels, or rungs, in the center). 2. To the outside of the wooden rung railing, you will notice eight (8) 1/4” holes. These holes accommodate the fasteners which will hold the legs on to the platform. Start two or three screws into these holes far enough so that the tips of the screws poke through the bottom of the platforms (figs. 2 & 3). 3. Have your helper line up one leg with the screws (fig. 4). The tips of the screws which protrude through the platform should make this fairly easy. Drive the screws all the way into the leg, making sure NOT to strip the screws. Once you’ve driven in the two or three starter screws, insert and drive the remainder of the screws for this leg. 4. Repeat step #3 with the other “top” leg (Fig 5). 5. Lean the Play Loft over until the two attached legs contact the ground. As in step two, drive two or three screws into the holes at the bottom of the platform into the appropriate holes. Do this on both sides of the platform. NOTE: On the right side, where the slide will be, is one hole which have a brass insert, and two holes with a sticker over it (see fig. 6). The brass inserts and the holes with the stickers will be used to attach the slide to the platform. Do not use these holes to attach the leg at this time. Assembly Instructions:

Please refer to the pictures on the following pages along with these instructions.

Start two or three screws into these holes far enough so that the tips of the

screws poke through the bottom of the platforms (figs. 2 & 3).

As in step two, drive two or three screws into the

holes at the bottom of the platform into the appropriate holes. (note: the size and color of the sticker used to cover the center hole may vary).

Tools required for assembly:

• 4 mm hex wrench, provided Electric Drill, not provided

Important Notes (please read before assembling)

♦ Assembly can be done with only the hex wrench provided. However, we strongly recommend using a cordless drill with the 4mm hex driver to speed assembly. Take care to set the drill’s torque so that it drives the screw fasteners com-pletely without stripping them out. Also, make sure the drive is seated properly in the screw, or the driver can strip out the head of the screw fastener

♦ The slide, as you can see, is an extremely large item. The slide was originally designed for outdoor playground equip-ment where minor cosmetic blemishes occur during everyday use. It is also impossible to package and ship this item in a manner that will keep it blemish-free, yet affordable to the end user. As such, it may arrive with some slight scuffs to the surface. We apologize in advance for this possibility, but believe that this slide is by far the best, safest, and most appropriate one available on the market for this application. 6. Lift the loft platform up onto the two legs that are already attached (see fig. 7). Use two people for this step, if necessary. Line up the third leg with the screws, and drive them all the way into the leg, again making sure not to

strip them in the holes (see fig. 8). Once you’ve driven in the two or three starter screws, insert and drive the re-mainder of the screws for this leg, with the exception of the hole(s) mentioned in step 5. Repeat this step for the last leg, which (will get all 8 screws).

7. At this time, move the Play Loft into it’s intended position. The side of the Play Loft with the two access points and only four dowels in the center is the side where the rung ladder and slide will attach. Make sure this side is facing the direction that you intended the slide to be.

8. The rung ladder has four holes drilled into one upright, which line up with four holes drilled through each leg. Po-sition the ladder in front of the leg directly beneath the left opening of the platform. Line up the holes, and drive

the fastening screws through the leg and into the rung ladder (from the “inside” of the leg -- see fig. 9). Repeat with all four screws. The loft should now look like fig 10.

9. Put the floor mat that came with the Play Loft inside the four legs, with the loop fastener facing up. The legs have hook fastener on the bottom which will securely fasten to the loop. Lift one side of the Play Loft so that the legs come off of the ground, tuck the flap under the legs, and lower the legs onto the flap. Try to keep the corners of

the mat tight to the corners of the legs. Repeat on the other side (see fig. 11).

10.Remove the slide from its packaging and lay flat on ground with the underside facing up. Place the marking

fixture at the top edge of the underside. Carefully line up the fixture with the edge, centered on the slide(see fig 12) Mark the hole locations with a felt tip marker. Verify that the marks line up with the recesses on the top side. The marks will not necessarily be in the center of the recess. Using the 3/8” drill bit provided, carefully drill through

the backside of the slide. (see fig 13) Please be precise with this step.

11.Set the top of the slide in front of the right opening of the platform, and line up the center and right holes with the stickers on the platform. Drive the last two screw fasteners through the slide and into the platform. There is a separate package of hardware that includes one machine screw, star washers and flat washer. On the machine screw, place the star washer followed by the flat washer. Place this in the remaining hole of the slide, and tighten. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN, as it is possible to pull the brass insert out of the wood.

12.Put the carpet onto the surface of the Play Loft Platform. Your Play Loft is now ready for use.

13.Working load is 300 lbs

Maintenance Checklist The following items should be checked on a monthly basis and recorded in your maintenance checklist.

• Check wood parts for splinters. If splinters are found, sand smooth and refinish with clear lacquer.

• If any of the screw fasteners become loose (highly unlikely), screw back tightly with the hex wrench

• Check the slide for sharp edges or seams. If found, they may be carefully trimmed flush with a sharp instrument.

The Southpaw Play Loft has many accessories to enhance it’s use, including:

• Velcro®-compatible padded walls to enclose the top and create a calming, enclosed space. It can also be used as a communication board (See Pg. 4)
