SATELLITENAVIGATIONSYSTEMS

Introduction

The field of satellite navigation, and itsapplications, has experienced a continuousgrowth since the commissioning of theAmerican GPS system in 1993, up to presentEuropean initiatives like EGNOS, and morerecently Galileo.

Since its beginning Indra has contributedsignificantly to those European programs, performing its activities in the field ofsatellite navigation thanks to the use of stateof the art technology and to its highlyqualified team.

Products

Indra has developed, through its satellitenavigation systems area of activity, severalproducts that are part of most of today’snavigation systems and applications.

These products are built around thefollowing basic product lines:

• Reference stations

• Monitoring and archiving centers

Reference stations

Based on a product initially developed forthe European satellite navigation systemsEGNOS and Galileo/GIOVE, Indra provides aversatile and modular reference station.

Reference station main characteristics:

• Several versions with differentmulticonstellation/multifrequencyreceivers, including GPS, GLONASS,EGNOS/WAAS, and Galileo/GIOVE

• Atomic clock (rubidium or caesium)frequency reference

• Robustness against interferences andmultipath

• Remote or local monitoring and control

• Optional meteorological station

Main applications:

• Reference station for GNSS systems

• Differential station

• Monitoring station

Monitoring and archiving centers

Key part of the control center, the monitoringand archiving center allows to know in realtime the state and the performances ofsatellite navigation systems, as well as toarchive all the information generated by thesystem.

Its main characteristics are:

• Real time visualisation on a map of thedifferent performances of the system

• Prediction capability of the future stateof the system

• User friendly Man-Machine interface

• Selective retrieval and archive of theinformation

Capabilities

In the field of satellite navigation systems,Indra has as main activity the developmentof navigation and positioning systems andapplications based on the initial satellitepositioning systems (the American GPS andthe Russian GLONASS), as well as on thenew systems EGNOS/ GNSS-1 and Galileo.

To this end, Indra provides:

• Navigation systems engineering

• Project development

• Reference stations

• Control and processing centers

• Navigation applications (differentialsystems, assisted navigation, integration ofsensors, search and rescue, fleetmanagement, railway securityapplications...)

• Consultancy and technical assistance fornavigation systems

Clients include:

• European Space Agency

• European Commission

• AENA

• Eurocontrol

• Main companies in the space field (ThalesAlenia Space, EADS Astrium, Thales...)
