Students will develop cross cultural skills and understanding.” National Standards: Communication, Culture, Connections, Comparisons Learning Objectives 1.) Students will be able to speak about different means of transportation. 2.) Students will be able to identify the location all the continents on a map (building on prior knowledge of the continent names and geography lessons). 3.) Students will acknowledge that vocabulary words used will vary depending on the region of use. Prior Knowledge Prepositions “a” and “en” Use of colors Names of continents Interdisciplinary- Geography PRECEDING LESSONS: Physical environment and geographical terminology Procedure 1. The teacher will begin the lesson by explaining the bell ringer (while passing out the handout): with a partner, match the words from the vocabulary list to the corresponding pictures. (2 minutes) 2. Each student will receive one piece of paper with a word on it. They will tape it to the appropriate picture on the wall. If there are not enough vocab words for the whole class, the remaining students will be the “teachers” and “correct” any mistakes by aiding the students in order to find the correct answer. (1 minute) 3. The class, as a whole, will repeat each vocabulary word after the teacher in order to work on pronunciation and verbal skills. (1 minute)

4. The teacher will model the example conversation located on the bottom of the vocab handout. The teacher will proceed to ask a few students “¿Cómo vas a viajar a ______?” and “¿Cómo vas a viajar en _______? (2 minutes)

5. After a few examples of the conversation structure, the students will be expected to act out the means of transportation (driving a car, flying a plane, sound of the train) as they approach the map to point out the location of each continent mentioned. The teacher will additionally ask “¿Qué color corresponde con este continente?” (2 minutes)

6. The teacher will sum up the lesson with two quick questions to a handful of students in order to check for comprehension. ¿Adónde quieres ir de vacaciones? ¿Cómo vas a viajar a ______? (2 minutes)

Assessment/Evaluation

Students will be informally assessed for comprehension through the in-class participation and activities.

Closure The students will share which continent they would prefer to visit, and how they will travel there.

Accommodations/Support Staff

The teacher will be walking around checking on students as they work in pairs. In addition, the teacher will provide opportunities for questions to be asked.

World map with major countries labeled in Spanish. World map without the major countries labeled in Spanish. Large signs with the country names on them Large signs with vocabulary (means of transportation) and correlating

picture. (Cut paper in half, separating the words and the picture.) Tape Print out of the vocabulary list for students to refer to and/or take home.

Time Required 10 minutesReflection I will make notes on my lesson plan in regards to how effective the lesson was

able to address the objectives and in a timely manner. I will notate each procedure listed with both positive and negative feedback from the lesson. In this manner, I will allow for revisions to be made for future classes in which I may use this lesson.
