SPEAKING  –  MARK  SCHEME  –  ENGLISH  LEVEL  3  (A2.2)    Global  Achievement  (student’s  performance  overall)    &    Oral  production  /  interactive  communication  (4  points):  student’s  ability  to  take  part  in  the  interaction  appropriately.    The  student  is  able  to  express  his  ideas  appropriately.  He/she  communicates  effectively  with  his/her  partner,  asking  and  answering  simple  questions,  and  where  necessary  initiating  conversation  and  responding.    Hesitation  while  the  student  searches  for  language  is  expected  and  not  penalised  so  long  as  it  does  not  strain  the  patience  of  the  listener.

Credits  are  given  for  being  able  to  ask  for  repetition  or  clarification  if  necessary.

Grammar  and  vocabulary  (3  points):  student’s  ability  to  use  vocabulary,  structure  and  paraphrase  strategies  to  convey  meaning

The  student  uses  sufficient  range  of  vocabulary  and  structure  to  communicate  clearly.  Minor  occasional  errors  do  not  impede  communication.

Pronunciation  (3  points):  intelligibility  of  the  student’s  speech

The  student’s  intonation,  stress,  and  articulation  of  sounds  make  the  message  clear  and  comprehensible.    First  language  interference  is  expected  and  not  penalised  if  it  does  not  affect  communication.        Source:  English  File  Pre-‐Intermediate  (OUP)  &  KET  Handbook  2007  (Cambridge)
