LESSON PLAN _______________________ Lesson: Unit 12: The Asian Games- Speaking I. AIMS: ( Speaking ) This lesson aims to help SS to: _Asking for and giving information about the Asian Games _Talking about sports results of Vietnamese athletes in the 14 th Asian Games. (Language): _Lexical items: bronze, silver, karatedo… _Structure -The question “When, where and how many” (Skill): improve their skill of speaking. II. APPROACH AND TEACHING AIDS Grammar Translation method + Communicative Approach. PowerPoint presentation, BB, textbook, chalk… III. ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS Technical problems (T must arrive at classroom early to prepare and set up computer, as well as be prepared to teach lesson without computer). Ss may be tired and unwilling to participate (T must arouse S interest from the beginning of the lesson). Ss may not have enough vocabulary to talk about the topic, so T should be ready to help them. _______________________Lesson: Unit 12: The Asian Games- Speaking

I. AIMS: ( Speaking ) This lesson aims to help SS to:

_Asking for and giving information about the Asian Games

I. Pre-Speaking ( 15 mins )

1. *Warm-up: Games: Stop the bus_ Put Ss in 2 teams.

_ Draw two lines on the board and label them with 2 categories.

Group A Group B

Sports: ......................................... ................................

- Give Ss a letter from the alphabet, for example letter M. As quickly as possible, they should think of a word connected with each category beginning with letter M and write them down. For example:

Country: Malaysia

Sport: mountain climbing

- The first team to write down one word for each category should shout: "Stop the bus". If the words are correct, give the team one point then choose another letter.

_ Check Ss' understand the instructions

_ Suggested ideas:

- T , P, V - ; - B , C , M -

_Declare the winning group.

*Lead-in:+ What Asian countries have taken part in the Asian Games?

+ What sports have been introduced in the Asian Games?

_ Ask Ss to open their books and look at the information about the Asian Games in the table (p.139) to check which countries have been the host countries in the Asian games until now.

2. Pre teach vocabulary:

- Use simple past tense to talk about the events in the past.

- Passive Voice can be used to talk about the year the Asian games took place.

II. While-Speaking ( 20 mins )1. Task 1: Repetition and substitution.

_Give instruction: _Ask Ss to look at the dialogue on page 139 and repeat the conversation

_ Ask Ss to use the information in the table to substitute for the suitable information

_ Teacher moves around to give help.

2.Task 2: Reporting

_Give instruction:

_Ask Ss to take turns to talk about the sports results of the Vietnamese athletes at 14th Asian games, using the information from the table on page 140- task 2

_Teacher moves around to give help

_Some pairs to come to the front of the class and act out their conversation.

_Some Ss come to the board to do the report

Example:

A: When and where were the 2nd Asian Games held?

B: They were held in 1954 in the Philippines

A: How many countries took part in the Games

B: 18

A: How many sports were there at the games?

B: 8

Example:

A: How many medals did Vietnamese athlete in the 14th Asian Games in bodybuilding?

B: 1 gold medal and 1 bronze medal.

A: Was there any gold medal in Wushu?

B: No, just one silver medal and 1 bronze medal.

III. Post-Speaking: (15 mins) _ Puts Ss in groups of 3-4_Ask them to play the role of a group of TV reporters preparing their report about Vietnams performance and achievements at the 14th Asian Games_The report should include some information about the Asian Games._Teacher moves around for help.

_After 10 T call on representative of each group to come to the front and report the work._ Representative of each group to come to the front and report the work._The other group listen and give feedback.
