Happy May Day. I hope you are enjoying our lovely spring weather. I know it’s warm, but the humidity hasn’t kicked in yet, so it’s lovely. I hope everyone that is planning on attending the convention next month, has made all necessary arraignments. I have heard they are just about filled up. I also request, if you are going, to send me an email so stating. I want to have a Chapter XXI get together and want to know who is going to be there.

Bob Schflake has had a great idea. He’s your VP, if you didn’t know. He recommends that if you do something representing the Chapter, have someone take pictures and send them to me for inclusion in the newsletter and/or Drop. We are also looking for a military vehicle to use in this year’s July 4th parade in Cocoa. If you know anyone who has one, preferably a jeep or similar vehicle, let me know.

In the last Drop, there is a ballot for the next slate of officers for SFA. Even though they are not being challenged by anyone, national would still like for you to vote. Your choice.

Again, we are not having a Chapter meeting in June. We plan on having a get together at the convention. Our next scheduled meeting will be in September, at the International Palms Resort, hosted by Bob & Kathy Schflake.

We have two new members to report:

Anna (Toy) Tucker, lives in Ocala. She is a transfer from Chapter 60. She likes to be called Toy.

AJ Welch and wife Pat, live in the Villages. AJ was a member at large. Now a member of Chapter XXI.

Welcome to both of you.

Message from Sharon HoaglandBeen in the hospital for 3 weeks, almost lost Dan: his kidneys shut down, right side of his heart is not working and now his right lung is joining in the problem. Docs say it is from UDT, and all the diving he did. They will move him to Shands, in Gainsville. Don't know how I will get there as I can't drive with this broken ankle. I have 3 more weeks before I find out if it is healing enough for a walking boot. I think someone is going to come pick me up this pm, so I can see him. Asking for prayers. Sharon

I spoke with Jimmy Braddock. He is doing well. Back in the gym and on the treadmill. He will be at the picnic portion of the convention.

Rob Johansen is well on his way to recovery from his back surgery. Rides his bike and walks. He will be at the convention also. Looking forward to seeing him at the convention.

Spoke with Bob Cherry. He and Maryann are doing well. He says he has no lingering effects from the stroke. Having some back problems, he is trying to get taken care of.

All of the tickets for the rifle raffle being conducted by Chapter 88 are sold.

HEALTH & WELFARE REPORT

1. Al Boman reports that TONI is doing real good. She is now walking short distances with a cane. After the U.S. andBritish navies mistakenly shot down over twenty of their planes during the invasion of Sicily, the survivingparatroopers of the504th ParachuteInfantry

Regimentlanguish,

awaitingorders, at a Sicilianairfield. Their

devastatinglossesforced Alliedcommanders torethink the concept of airborne assaults.

Staff Sergeant Tony DeMarco was bored and angry. The fate of his family in the mountains outside Salerno weighed heavy on his mind. In mid-September 1943, the call came. The war in Italy wasn't going well, reinforcements were needed. The paratroopers of the 504 would jump into battle, but the increasing strength of the Germans needed to be stopped.Hours before their drop, hardnosed

Sergeant DeMarco volunteered to join Italian partisans in an attempt to cut the main German supply line. Little did he realize his resistance fighter contact would be a brave twenty

one year old, deadly with a German Luger pistol.
