Clinical Management of Cardiac Arrhythmias By G. Neal Kay. Rosemary S . Btthieii 1992,221 p p $53 hcrrdcoiw

This book addresses, from a clinical perspec- tive, the major advances in basic and clinical research of arrhythmias. The book covers arrhythmias from conduction disorders that cause them to all forms of treatment and would be useful to critical care nurses, cardiac unit nurses, and medical students.

Mu 1 t ip 1 e e I e c t r oc a rd i og r am graphs a re included in almost every chapter to clearly demonstrate the specific arrhythmias involved, and there is a whole chapter devoted to the pharmacologic treatment of arrhythmias. The book progresses logically from the anatomic conduction of the card iac impulse to the implantable cardioverter defibril lator and includes discussions of each type of arrhyth- mia. its evaluation, and its treatment. It would be a valuable resource in any OR library.

Quick Reference to Dysrhythmia: Identification and Intervention By Moil! A . Joliantgetz 1991. IhOpp $34 huidc '01 Ter.

This text is appropriately named. For having so few pages, it contains a wealth of information.

The author provides an introduction to basic cardiac anatomy and physiology, She presents normal rhythms and dysrhythmias and then explains abnormal dysrhythmias. The topics are presented like building blocks (ie, the information in each chapter builds on that from previous chapters). Each chapter has an intro- duction and a detailed summary. The book ends with a chapter on drugs used in cardiac treatment.

The author provides many illustrations, which are helpful for those readers who do not work in cardiovascular or critical care nursing environments. The author uses many resources to simplify a subject that is very technical and detailed, and she presents it in an easy-to- understand format.

The text is appropriate for the critical care nurse who has some experience in this area of nursing and who wants a good reference. This book is easy to understand and well organized; however, I do not recommend it as light read- ing material.

This book is available from Aspen Publish- ers, Inc, 1600 Research Blvd, Rockville, MD 20850.

Disinfection, Sterilization, and Preservation, fourth ed By Seymour S. Block 1991. 1162pp $1 95 Izardcover

This book is an invaluable resource for periop- erative nurses and central services staff mem- bers. It should be required reading for those individuals in charge of these areas, and they should have it on their bookshelves.

The author addresses hospital and industrial applications of these processes, and he thor- oughly explores and traces the evolution of dis- infection, sterilization, and preservation. I found the chapter on term definition extremely
